@SolomonE56: Big Announcement coming today at 6pm!
-
I see Willy having a big year with the rule changes and improved OL. Sign him now or his cost is only going to increase.
-
My guess is MLB is an import and WIL is Hurl/Newman/Briggs.
-
They were leaving with expectations (and in ever case they did) of being a starter.. So, still a starter moving in FA..Ya but his point is in the context of us losing Willy even though we want to keep him
-
That's a good point but I'm still not comfortable taking the risk.
-
@Wpg_BlueBombers: #Bombers add DB Ryan Steed, release Greg Hickman & Justin Wilson.
-
Here's a link to some one-on-one drills from Bombers mini camp:
-
I was referring to $350k vs $400k.
-
I'd rather pay an extra $50k than risk losing him.
-
True, but the plan could have involved a lower cap hit than what they may be looking at now based on negotiations. And Walters thinking could have been if they can get Willy for $350, then they can keep certain guys, but if it gets to $400k, then someone's gotta go. Again, I'm just speculating in this specific case, but that's the reality of a salary cap world...someone gets a raise, another player is gone.

I never said we were against the cap when I said Vega's cut may be related to a Willy extension. You're talking like you know, when in reality you have no clue what our cap situation is.Let's say Walters projects to be $300k under the cap before the season starts. A Willy extension puts him over that, so he cuts Vega to sign Willy and still allow that $300k cushion. Regardless of your thinking related to the cap, you're making it sound like one had to be done, in order to do the other.Yes that's exactly what I'm saying. I don't know for sure that's the case, but the two moves (Vega cut and Willy extension) might be related. I never once said that the Bombers were tight against the cap. I sense either a bit of backpedaling or a bit of misunderstanding between two sides here.TrueBlue just said "you're making it sound like one had to be done in order to do the other" - had to. And you said "yes that's exactly what I'm saying" but then say "I never once said that the Bombers were tight against the cap" If you're not saying they're tight against the cap, why would there be a need for them to release one player simply to afford another? Not backpeddling at all. Read my example on the $300k cushion. The $300k is just a made up number.

I don't think anyone suggested that, but I'd assume Walters operates with a budget and salary forecasts for the season.
-
Reading on Twitter it sounds like this is a decision BC might regret.

League minimum is $55k.
-
I was thinking that the Jason Vega cut might be related to Drew Willy's extension.
-
Initially I was in the "Let Willy prove himself" camp. But I've switched to the "Sign Willy to an extension even if it costs $400k per year" camp. Bombers cannot afford to lose Willy if he's our franchise QB. Walters would be taking a big risk not getting a deal done prior to the season. Lawless makes a good argument.

Bombers sign one more from mini camp - INT OL Corey Lewis

A lot of these moves are longer term and not necessarily for this season. The scouting team is thinking ahead, in case we can't re-sugn Bryant when his contract is up in 2 years. Some of these guys are competing for PR spots and just to get s further look. -
Walters mentioned Covington's name in the context that, ya he just became eligible but it didn't make a difference in his draft board because he fully expects Covington to get drafted by the NFL.

Durant could be one that meets that criteria.Doubt it. When asked the question he mentioned Covington. Durant has been eligible for a while now.Covington is newly eligible but he hardly should be altering the top of draft boards.Could even be Wagonner, a stab at him in the supplemental makes a guy like Shortill or even Ackie less important with one of those second rounders. Covington? Meh. Not buying that he makes many rearrange their top rankings. Listen to the interview on CJOB. Walters didn't really say what Atomic suggested he said. Walters did not say he's rearranged his draft board based on some recent guys becoming eligible.I don't want to get into a pissing match with Atomic, but that's not what Walters said. But listen to the interview for yourself.

Don't worry, I won't be coming out either way. I'm busy that night.

Compare building a football team to building a car. The OL is the engine. Receivers are the spoiler.
