I got one better - as a coach I survived not one but TWO 2 - 14 seasons, back to back, with an existing club. Granted, I was a legend in that town, and was fired after the second year, but I learned. I went on to be a very successful Coach in Edmonton and Hamilton, winning a Grey Cup in each city as a coach, in between my gigs as a color commentator on the CBC. Do you know who I am? Jim Spavital went 2-14 in 1970 as the rookie HC of the Bombers. He wasn't fired in the off season which some fans had hoped for but GM EarlLunsford kept him around. He was rewarded for his loyalty to Spav as the team improved to 7-8-1 in 1971 to snag a third place playoff spot in the West for the first time since 1966. Then under Spavital the Bombers improved to 10-6 in 1972. They were the best regular season CFL team that year only to lose the West Final to the Riders at Winnipeg Stadium. A team that just got into the playoffs with an 8-8 record. Massive upset. So, maybe the redblacks improve enough to get a playoff spot next year or win 6 or 7 games. Who knows? But to fire Campbell after a single season? Well, that would be a typical dickish Marcel Desjardins move if he thought he'd be saving his own skin. I'm curious what happened to the Bombers that day in 1972 iso? Before my time. Were you at that game or did you watch it on tv?Edit: Ok I see you were at the game, but I'm not familiar with the this phantom call. Can't find any video on youtube either Sounds like some nasty ass **** went down at that game...typical CFL officiating stuff

Als @ TiCats / Riders @ Eskis - The Final Showdown

Does James Duthie know anything about the CFL? -
Willy has to hit the weights & gain 30 lbs like Reilly did & then make a point to be in the weight room all season. Willy said he wasn't in the weight room this season as much as he would have liked because of the hand and shoulder injuries.
-
Is Milanovich's contract up after this season? If he hasn't yet signed an extension with the Argos, I'd say he outta there.
-
Thought I was the only one that noticed this .. I noticed those weird snaps more with Brohm than with Willy. Were they with Willy too?
-
I'll tell you right now, the Bombers would be prepared to give Milanovich a HC salary to be their OC. He'll consider $$$ offers to escape the dumpster fire in Toronto. We could even give him the title of "Associate Head Coach" or whatever to justify the higher salary.

How Good is MOS at Evaluating Talent?

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?

I completely disagree. The CJFL has a very strong working relationship with the CFL, especially in the PFC. (Prairie Football Conference) This agreement allows CFL teams to have junior players in their camps without counting against the numbers. It also allows for players to practice with the CFL club while continuing to play for their junior club. CFL teams are allowed 4 players in this window. It is part of their commitment to help develop football players in Canada. The CFL teams (especially in the West) financially support the junior clubs. Their reward is that they can protect the players that they have invested in, but only if that player doesn't play CIS. Once that player plays in the CFL or CIS, he becomes just like any other player, and the special status is removed.Without the agreements, it would likely be the death of Junior football in Canada, as most teams would not survive financially without the support of the CFL. Running a team on the Prairies is about a quarter million dollar per year program. It is true that there are more teams in BC, but historically, they haven't been as talented. The PFC teams have won 4 of the last 5 championships, and 15 of the last 20. The Riders have been the most successful in having players move from Junior directly to the CFL. The majority of former Junior players who go onto the CFL, spend their first couple of years in Junior and then progress to the CIS and are exposed to the draft. The CJFL is actually the best choice for most players coming out of high school, as they can play at a high level for 2 years without burning any CIS eligibility. Top players in the league get the best college scholarship offers, usually much better than players coming fresh from high school. The CJFL is an "age group" league, so unlike the CIS there is no incentives to "red shirt" a player. The other role that the CJFL has taken on, is it provides a high level of football for players who may not be well suited to university, or who's school of choice doesn't have a football program. Many Rifles are students at RRCC or UofW, in addition to those who are at UofM or have jobs. As for Goodrich, he is an outstanding young talent, who puts more time in the gym and training than most pro players do. 2 years ago, when Goodrich and Carter were both on the Rifles, they were both outstanding. Carter was more the Joe Poplawski type of receiver, great hands, good routes, very reliable. Goodrich was more of a big play guy (the Milt of the CJFL). Faster than anyone else in the CJFL, and once he got into open field it was a touchdown. That has continued even though he normally gets double coverage and teams try to bracket him. I certainly hope the Bombers sign him and bring him to camp. Great read...thanks Jaxon! -
Let's hope Kuale is next to announce his retirement.

What's the scouting report on Goodrich? -
Him and O'Shea are friends. Wouldn't surprise me if O'Shea has already discussed this with him. I could see Montreal firing Higgins and hiring Milanovich to be the head coach there, or if he's going to settle for being an offensive coordinator why isn't he going to work for his BFF in the whole wide world Chris Jones? He may be friends with O'Shea but he's got more and stronger ties to other places if you ask me. Guy like that won't have to settle for whoever comes calling, teams will make room for a guy like that. Word leaked out earlier this week that Higgins will be back with the Als next season.

He's taking his teaching degree at the U of M so he's nicely set for life after football.

Wouldn't this be a dream: @BomberJetsTalk: If Scott Milanovich *does* want out of Toronto he would become the ultimate OC candidate. I'd expect BC & WPG to push hard for his services.

Yep I think you are correct. My bad. Too many Kyle's
