  1. Easier to not hear the homerism when the team is lousy. Give it time. I’m sure once the Elks get better the fan base here will hear homerism in every comment.
  2. First time since 2015 that there won’t be a crossover.
  3. Are Bomber fans that insecure that this stuff bothers them?
  4. Just checked the jersey schedule. Regular homes tonight, but will wear the heritage for 4 straight games starting on Tuesday against St. Louis.
  5. Comrie with the start tonight. Not sure but looking at practice they may be going with the blue Heritage (now official 3rd) jersey tonight.
  6. And the Larks have the Bombers. Horsemen with the bye.
  7. Any indication who these players are? It is their private health information, but if they want to take such a principled stand then maybe they should put their names behind it.
  8. Hellebuyck’s agent is from Steinbach, and Hellebuyck is connected to a minor hockey team there.
  9. Guessing they want to give Bucky a bit more time off? With a back-to-back Friday -Saturday Conroe was likely to play one of them anyway. Might as well be against the Hawks and save Helle for Saturday against the Isles. Hopefully it is not more serious than that.
  10. Hoping the Riders do just enough against the sad sack (L)k’s to claim second place over Calgary. Facing the Riders in the West final is so much better for us than Calgary I am willing to root for them in the short term.
  11. The Vegas cap next year with Eichel is at $78.75 million for 11 players under contract. The cap ceiling is $81.5 million and not likely to go up with all the financial losses the last 2 years. So expect some big moves to shed salary or a Tampa Bay style LTIR play. But can’t see them rostering 14 players for the season to fit under the cap. Other teams would be well-served to force Vegas’ hand and demand hold back of a portion of any traded player’s salary. Vegas will continue to win these trade wars if other teams keep bailing them out on other trades and don’t make them deal with all these big salaries they keep amassing.
  12. So when does Bobby Hull get crossed off for his pro-Hitler views or his wife beating? How about Craig McTavish for his impaired vehicular homicide?
  13. Sorry that should have read “and” and not “NDP” (stupid autocorrect a clearly I have spent too much time in the Politics thread). I have no idea who the players are and what their current playing status is. I agree that all should vaccinate for their and their teammates’ safety. And the conversation is often different when it is our team vs another team on the same issue.
  14. Actually they would play on the West final. The vaccine mandate is only about travel for the CFL, so since it is a home game they would be allowed to play. It would only affect the Grey Cup.
  15. Irving tweeted that he was a spectator today along with Harris. Just got a bad vibe from Irving mentioning them together, like he is going to be gone for a long time.
  16. Let’s not forget that the Bombers have an unvaccinated player NDP one with only one shot, who according to Mike is a “star”. Would you cut Collaros right now if it was him, or Willie J?
  17. If that 3 way tie occurred (and Calgary would go 1-1, not 0-2, but would have to lose to BC), BC would still be out. The tiebreaker would be head-to-head-to head wins. Sask would be 3-2 (2-0 vs BC, 1-2 vs Cal), Cal would be 3-3 (2-1 vs Sask, would be 1-2 with another loss against BC) and BC would be 2-3 (0-2 vs Sask, 2-1 vs Cal). If BC and Cal end up tied in points, NC could still win out if they win the season series. As for the crossover, BC is almost down there as if either of Montreal or Hamilton win, they are done. BC can still lose one game but then Calgary would need to be winless for them to be tied. And Calgary can win one and BC is still alive if they win out. But odds are long in BC, and last week’s loss to Toronto was a real dagger.
  18. Cal Murphy technically did it too, but split over two periods. 1984-86 before he moved upstairs to GM, and then 1993 and 1994 when he returned behind the bench.
  19. Sun belt teams have done pretty well of late in getting to or winning the championship, so not sure the players are valuing a paycheque over the chance to win.
  20. I think a big reason that today’s player is less engaged and loyal to a team long term than back in the 1970’s is how big the NFL has gotten. Remember that the Argos outbid the NFL for Rocket Ismael when he signed with them, no way that will ever happen again. And the teams don’t have guaranteed contracts, so where is the incentive to sign for more than one year? So players who are looking out for their bottom line are not going to lock themselves in to a long contract if no one else is going to commit to them. As for ticket prices, I certainly agree that Grey Cup prices especially are out of hand now. I wonder if the league would go back to considering local blackouts for games not sold out 48 hours in advance as a way to lure fans back to the park. It used to be if you wanted to see a home game, the only way was buying a ticket. Could that work again?
  21. True, but the lack of continuity on rosters makes it harder for fans to engage with their favourite players. That’s why an option window seems like a nice trade off. Players may stay in the CFL and play rather than floating around not playing anywhere waiting to get picked up by an NFL team. CFL gets more stability with its players, NFL has players who are keeping active, players can get more long term security but also not have an NFL opportunity pass them by. Lots of moving parts for sure, and maybe CFL contracts need to be guaranteed as well. No cutting players prior to training camp to get out of bonuses to be paid.
