  1. And I believe that Rittenhouse will be acquitted, and that under the laws of the USA he will have a defence that will be accepted. And that to my mind is the problem. In most democratic nations just showing up with a semi-automatic rifle to any public gathering if you are not military or police would be a crime, and if you used that weapon to kill someone, you would not be perceived as defending against a threat, YOU would be the threat. The USA is an embarrassment that this kind of logic does not apply but “stand your ground” is considered good law.
  2. And got a lucky bounce off his defenceman’s skate.
  3. Bob used to pair on the road with Neil Lumsden as a colour guy for Ticats broadcasts, and with an ex-Montreal player (name escapes me, almost want to say Pat Woodcock) for Alouette broadcasts, and they were excellent. Especially Lumsden. I would heartily endorse that kind of “balanced” broadcast.
  4. Sad but likely true. So we should push for TSN to do their patented extended in-booth “interview” with Bob in the 3rd quarter where they ask him to do some play-by-play. Just tell Suitor he is Keith Urban and they’ll be all over that.
  5. Jets deserved some better puck luck. Tough loss and frustrating shootout and overtime, but if they bring forth this kind of performance nightly then I will be happy because they will win the large majority of the time with that level of effort.
  6. Shhh, don’t ruin the “Suitor is a Rider-biased hack all the time” narrative this board has spun over the years.
  7. I don’t mind Friesen trying to think outside the box here and get Irving a much deserved final call. Plus, every other game has two separate radio calls (home team and away team) so would actually be normal.
  8. Hey, lay off Kelly. He doesn’t come to your job at McDonald’s and tell you how to salt the fries, does he? 🤣 What was the other insult he threw out at a listener, something about mom’s basement?
  9. Less than 5,500 seats left for the West Final.
  10. Just a reminder that we have the bye before the West Final. Any nicked up players (and there are always kicks after a game) will get their treatment and be ready to go. Or will take a lighter load at practice. Or will rotate more during the game. Anyone hurt enough to need rest will get it. I trust that the club will treat this as another normal week and not go crazy trying to sit players. Keep the same routine, go 1-0 this week. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Trying to guess who will sit “just because” is a fool’s errand.
  11. So, I know one guy who is now looking for work, has a long history already with the CFL and PBP, and has strong ties to Winnipeg to boot. And MBB goes bat s*** crazy in 3, 2, 1……..
  12. Kelly Moore did the PBP from Vancouver when Bob was sick a few years ago. I suspect he would have the inside track.
  13. Well, TSN loves those in-game interviews, and has even asked a country music star to step in and do play-by-play. This would be the one time I would whole heartedly endorse that segue. Honestly, Bob would do a better job at it than any of the current PBP guys employed by TSN (no disrespect to Rod Smith). Would be very fitting to allow Bob to step in and broadcast his first Grey Cup since 1998 (when the local broadcaster for the host city got the radio gig), especially if the Blue Bombers get there again.
  14. Given how good the Bomber defence has been, it is arguable that one of those big 3 has been as valuable as Collaros. Quarterbacks by default are always going to be more “valuable” given the nature of their position, so that word is always hazy.
  15. I would like to see a change in the awards where the top 3 are nominated for each award as opposed to one west vs one east. And no cap one per team. There have been many years where the best two players in a category come from the same division, and the east-west final is anticlimactic. And also years where two players from one team deserve to be in the top 3 (Stegall-Khari in 2002, Flutie-Pitts, Calvillo-Pringle as a few examples). Frankly, Jefferson, Jeffcoat and Bighill all deserve to be finalists for MODP over any other player I can think of.
  16. Week 15 scenarios- Winnipeg - top of the heap Saskatchewan - clinched playoff spot, can clinch 2nd and a home playoff game with a win or a tie OR a BC win or tie against Calgary Calgary - can clinch a playoff spot with a win or tie against BC, still in contention for 2nd place BC - will be eliminated with a tie or loss against Calgary, can finish no higher than 3rd Edmonton - out of playoffs, will finish last with a loss and a BC win or tie OR a tie and a BC win Toronto - clinched a playoff spot, can clinch 2nd and a home playoff date with a Montreal loss or tie, can clinch 1st with a win or tie against Hamilton. Toronto can still finish anywhere from 1st to 3rd. Hamilton - clinched a playoff spot, can clinch 2nd and a home playoff game with a win OR a Montreal loss OR a tie and a Montreal tie. Hamilton can still finish anywhere from 1st to 3rd. Montreal - clinched a playoff spot, cannot finish higher than 2nd, but can pass either Hamilton or Toronto (just not both). Will finish 3rd with a loss OR a tie and a Hamilton tie or win. Ottawa - bottom of the barrel.
  17. Mosca was promoting a book at the time, so there are rumours that this was staged. And neither player has ever confirmed or denied it when it has been brought up.
  18. Dedman alone is worth the price of admission. Not much else has been in Ottawa this year. Dinwiddie showing some warts as a rookie HC. Bad clock management last week and an unchallengeable challenge this week. Experience will sort that stuff out.
  19. I include this image not to poke fun, but rather because it encapsulates a lot of the player and the man in one clip. And like the clip and the full story, there was more to the man than meets the eye. I will honestly say i was never a fan of Angelo Mosca, and I don’t feel bad saying that upon his death. Angelo himself would not be offended, he probably would have chuckled and been proud that he could still garner such an opinion, because everything about him was to make an impression, to be memorable, whatever you thought of him. As a player, he was a beast, appearing in a record 9 Grey Cups and earning 5 rings. But he was also one the original “dirtiest player around” candidates in football. His late out of bounds hit on BC’s Willie Fleming knocked the star running back out of the 1963 Grey Cup and changed the course of the whole game. Mosca was also a mouthy guy, the kind of player you would love if he was on your team but also the guy you would hate if he was an opponent. In part because he was so good. As I was just a bit too young to see him as a player, I first became familiar with him as a pro wrestler. And there is likely where a lot of the hate came in, as he revelled in playing the heel. Then I went back to his playing career, already influenced by my dislike of the “King Kong Mosca” persona, and every thing I took into account about his style of play in hindsight served as confirmation bias that he was a dirty SOB. Plus, he was a Tiger Cat, the mortal enemy of the Blue Bombers. So when I saw the Joe Kapp beat down, it made me smile. Mosca again the heel, refusing the peace offering and swinging a cane at a guy. Then getting knocked on his ass. FAFO. Nice revenge for the dirty hit in ‘63. But in between that I saw the guy who did charity work, was a tireless devotee, promoter and champion of the CFL after his playing days were done, and was an outgoing gregarious character with a great sense of humour. So it made my relationship with this “enemy” more complicated. A lot of my childhood assumptions about fandom and love and hate of players got a harsh reality check. I have been told I am overprotective of players, and someone like Mosca is part of the reason why. I frequently remind myself that behind the jersey, behind the number is a human being just trying to keep a temp job where being fired or injured for life is just a play away, all the while having to deal with indignant fans who hate your guts because of the colour of your uniform or what you do in your worst moment rather than because of who you are. And who just wants to perform, to entertain. One footnote to the Joe Kapp scrap. Mosca sold the cane from that incident at an auction for just under $8,000, and donated the money to the CFL Alumni Association to help former players in financial distress. Once again defying my expectations. So farewell to Angelo Mosca, a giant of a player and a giant of a man. You will not be forgotten.
