I’d ask you to expand but you don’t know what so say. Seriously, are you peeved about his vaccine comments? Because he took the shot, was ready for camp, and has said nary a word about it going forward. I can disagree with his opinion, but I don’t see why that would make people pissed at him 7 months later, unless they are being over reactionary.

Good thing our second best goaltender kept it 0-0, eh?

“Reliable outside target” = “one catch per game”. His agent must have written this bio. -
Lots of factors tied to Buff leaving. We had already lost Trouba because he never wanted to stay, so we did the best we could with the trade. But that then made Morrissey more valuable to keep as a future cornerstone defenceman and we overpaid. Should be worth $4.5 and not $6.5 million but that’s the market and the cost of keeping someone in Winnipeg. Do not underestimate how hard it is to compete in this market. The “draft and develop” model is in place for a reason, because unlike Tampa or Vegas we don’t have nice weather, no taxes, or big city outside attractions to entice free agents, and Andrew Copp is the latest example of a draft and develop player who we would have to had comparatively overpaid or let go once free agency hit. We are the Oakland A’s of hockey in the Yankees world. We can’t compete with the big dogs and build teams the same way, we are card counters, and hopefully our players bloom young enough that we have a strong team before they key pieces ripen fully and command top dollar. That’s what we had in 2018 with Laine, Connor, Hellebuyck, Trouba, Morrissey, Tanev, Wheeler, etc on the cheap and gambles like Scheifele and Ehlers contracts paid off. Like Colorado now. Next problem, Myers was going no matter what and Enstrom retiring, but we thought we had Buff locked in so we didn’t overpay for Chiarot to stay. Then Buff quits but his big salary is still on the books, so we have destroyed our defensive depth but can’t afford to replace it because now contracts to keep Wheeler and Hellebuyck, who were our best two players at the time, plus anticipating Laine and Connor raises. Then pandemic and flat cap and Little LTIR, which clears salary off the books but doesn’t allow for cap space to grow but of the weird cap rules. And with the overachieving 2018 year changing expectations, we roll the dice on deadline day and trade away high draft picks for Stastny and then Hayes, eroding our depth. So we sit on what we have at D for two extra years before trying a quasi re-build with Dillon and Schmidt this past year, again with cap implications that hastened Copp’s departure. Now, could systems be better? The accountants who like fancy stats say sure, and maybe a different approach is needed, but this is much more layered than just “Buff left” or “coaching culture change” as the sole reason. Such is life in cap era hockey.

Do you feel the same way about Hellebuyck?

Oops. Stupid auto carrot! 😁

The Ves demotion is cap related. Remove his $1.5 million, can bring up 2 minimum salaries from the A and then both Copp and Stastny can be moved but the roster stays at 12 forwards. As for the goalie, it is insurance since Berdin is nicked up. Dillon might be moved because teams always overpay for D at the trade deadline (see exhibit #8152 Ben Chiarot) and his contract can be absorbed by most team even if tight to the cap. They’ll move him if the offer is too good to pass up, plus they have depth in the minors. All per Murat Area’ article.

The media availability is in this link. Coop’s comments about staying are right at the end. Hw seems to be referencing last year, when he was ready to sign long term but the defence signings put a pin in that. Hw talks about spending as much time with with teammates as possible the next 4 days, and if he gets a couple of extra months he is happy with that. No mention of staying longer. I think he made his mind up when he didn’t get the long term deal that he was going to go to market after this season. Just my take on it. Not hearing that he really wants to stay now. https://illegalcurve.com/winnipeg-jets-practice-report-364/

So no Frank Pillow then? -
Where did you hear those comments? All I have ever heard from the media is that he is set on trying free agency and unlikely to return. If he wanted more than $5 million a year, I’d pass on him. If it was $4 million or less, I’d take a good look. In between that, would need to be dependent on the rest of the team cap room. And right now the team is up against the cap with few salaries coming off the books. People just need to stop with all the “trade Wheeler and Scheifele” nonsense, and it is complete nonsense. Wheeler is not going anywhere, plain and simple. He has a no-move clause, and even if he did not, no one is taking on an $8.5 million contract for a 35 year old with 2 full years remaining. Putting everything else aside, no team has that kind of room in their cap to take him on. Luckily, even as an overpay he is still producing at a point a game rate. Mounting injuries are becoming a concern. And a buyout would cripple the team for two years with nothing in return. Why would any team give up 60-70 points a year to get nothing back and still pay $4.25 million towards your cap. As for Scheifele, even in a down year with fans manufacturing attitude issues, he still remains one of the best value contracts in the league for his ability, so you don’t move him from a point of weakness to appease a grumpy fan base. If he is to be moved, it is more likely to come at draft time, not a rush deal at the trade deadline. And you get proper value for a #1 centre, not just a dump move with the team still 2 points out of the playoffs. I not not against trading him, also not against finding a coach who can work on his defensive game. But wishing a trade of 26 and 55 to “change the culture” is abject stupidity driven by a scapegoating fan base that will turn us into the new Edmonton Oilers who tried the same stunt when they moved Eberle, Hall, Yakupov etc all to re-blend a failing team, IMO. The biggest problem contributing to the Jets’ slide has been the unexpected loss of Byfuglien and the inability to re-rebuild the defence since then. The next biggest is not having a good third scoring line or an even average 4th depth line. Getting rid of two of your top 3 scorers out of spite is not the way to remedy that.

Many in Toronto would also say as long as Charlie Montoya is manager the team will not go over the top. He does not seem to be well-regarded in the 604.

Not sure about “holes” per se, but areas of competition at camp include 5th receiver behind Bailey, Demski, Ellington, and Wolitarsky, kick/punt returner, interior d-lineman to replace Richardson, and secondary to replace Alexander short term and Alford long term. Also kicking situation may be “set” but not “settled”. Can’t speak too confidently about the draft, but Walters has always leaned towards building the o-line, and we did lose back-up depth there. -

Like A&W but pricier than others for what you get. Wendy’s Baconator and the double quarter pounder from Mickey D’s are both disgustingly calorific. Love them. But honestly the “mom and pop” store burgers are better. -
Could bringing him in free up a move of Stastny or Copp?

Agreed, important to show all the clips. It is weird to see that one though where everyone is clapping and she isn’t though, and it is like that for a few seconds. Maybe she started late or finished early, who knows.

True. And actual video showing a boat fall off the edge would be more persuasive than just hearing it. Even if that video was out of context.
