I am ambivalent about facing the 'Cats- they are probably the best team in the East, but any games we lose from here on in will be because we gave the game away, not because we were beaten by better squad.

Kyle Rittenhouse judge is 'putting his thumb on the scale in every way possible': MSNBC analyst The judge presiding over Kyle Rittenhouse's murder trial is a "racist' who's "putting his thumb on the scale in every way possible" in favor of the defendant, according to MSNBC legal analyst Elie Mystal. Mystal, an attorney who serves as the Nation magazine's justice correspondent, said Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Bruce Schroeder has "a history of disregarding civil rights information and rulings." "If you look at his specific history in this case, all of his pretrial motions tended to favor Kyle Rittenhouse, even leading up to this trial, and then certainly his behavior in the trial as the presiding officer of the trial, has just been grotesque in terms of his combativeness with the prosecution, his willingness to let the defense slide on many issues, his American flag tissue box, his cell phone ringtone that is actually the same song that is played at the beginning of Trump rallies," Mystal said. "It's never just one thing," he added. "It's not just one issue or one decision. I'm not saying one plus one equals two. I'm saying one plus one plus one plus one plus one equals five, and while you can try to defend any individual decision, when you look at the totality of his actions, what you have is a racist, biased judge who is putting his thumb on the scale in every way he can for the defense and for Rittenhouse in this case." Host Jason Johnson responded by noting that if a judge's ringtone played a "Black Lives Matter anthem," people would likely take issue, but Schroeder is "getting away with it." Most of us in Canada have no idea how integrated gun culture is into American society. A few years ago, the wife and I were returning from Ontario via the south of the Great Lakes route. We were having breakfast when a local came in after pulling up to the restaurant in a truck with the mandatory gunrack with rifles. He sat at the table next to us and we struck up a conversation. His knowledge of Canada will stunningly bare- he even asked if we had churches. I tried to shrug it off by saying that we were much like Americans but with free healthcare instead of guns. He paused a moment and then stated that he would rather have his gins. A friend and his wife were snowbirding near Yuma in a gated community that was largely park models. They stopped going a few years ago because many of the Americans began to start carrying sidearms while walking to the convenience store in the compound. This while wearing shorts, T-shirts and flipflops. He said that what scared them was that the more guns that appeared, the less people interacted with each other and stayed in their homes.

I understand your frustration but if having these restrictions on me saves even a few lives, I will put up with it. The anti-vaxxers are being irresponsible about their obligations as a member of society, so that leaves it up to the rest of us to be adults and lead by example.

It makes sense to me that starting the regulars and letting them play the first half to keep the rust off, then subbing liberally would be a good plan. Letting the first stringers play the whole next game, or most of it would get them in the proper mindset for the playoffs.

This Texas town's first Black principal was fired over CRT — which the district admits was never taught The first Black principal of Colleyville Heritage High School in Grapevine, Texas, has lost his job after a months-long battle with the school board, which accused him of teaching and promoting critical race theory (CRT) in his school. Just a month after Dr. James Whitfield wrote a letter decrying the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, saying systemic racism was "alive and well" and that "education is the key to stomping out ignorance, hate, and systemic racism," Stetson Clark, a former school board candidate at Grapevine-Colleyville High School, called for the principal's firing. "He is encouraging the disruption and destruction of our district," Clark said, July 26, 2020, according to the Texas Tribune. Whitfield received a disciplinary letter from the district a few weeks later and was placed on administrative leave soon after that. In late July, the board then recommended a proposal not to renew Whitfield's contract for the 2022-2023 school year. In addition to Whitfield's email condemning the deaths of Black folk, the mostly white Texas community, had issues with the fact that Whitfield has a white wife and his participation on a district-approved panel about diverse differences. And even though the school district acknowledges that CRT was never taught in the school, these Karens and Brandons have elected to offer the principal a settlement in lieu of keeping him in his job. Monday, the school board voted unanimously to fire him. A joint statement from Whitfield and the school board gave the following rationale: "Both the District and Dr. Whitfield each strongly believe they are in the right. However, each also agrees that the division in the community about this matter has impacted the education of the District's students… The District and Dr. Whifield have mutually agreed to resolve their disputes." Republican Paul Gosar tweets anime-themed video of him killing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., the far-right dentist known for his ties to multiple white nationalist groups, on Sunday released a video of photoshopped clips of an anime show depicting him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. The tweeted video – which he captioned, "Any anime fans out there?" – opens with Gosar's name under Japanese text that reads "attack of immigrants," an apparent reference to the anime show "Attack on the Titan" from which the Republican pulled various clips. The video then goes on to show footage of immigrants at the southern border, overlaying the footage with anime-style special effects and crosscutting with interstitials that read "drugs, crime, poverty, money, gangs, violence" and "trafficking." About midway into the video, "Attack on the Titan main character Eren Yaeger is shown in a mashup of clips with Gosar's face photoshopped onto the cartoon character. Swords in both hands, the fictionalized Gosar scales a European-esque urban landscape alongside cartoon versions of Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Lauren Bobert, R-Colo., until slaying what appears to be a titan with Ocasio-Cortez's face photoshopped onto it. Toward the end, the cartoon Gosar is shown leaping into the air with his blades unsheathed moments before striking the photoshopped head of President Joe Biden. Many of the Q-Anoners who were gathered in Dallas at Deely Plaza awaiting JFK jr to appear and lead theme to the promised land, are still there, refusing to leave. And, in related news, medical doctors have gathered at an equestrian event in the US to promote Ivermectin. Madness, total madness.

4-to-1 vaccine split means COVID deaths are three times higher in Trump counties than Biden areas. Vaccine hesitancy has caused the partisan gap in death rates to be higher than ever recorded This past month, the gap in COVID-19 death rates between counties that voted for Donald Trump and President Biden has been higher than ever recorded, according to a New York Times analysis, likely due to lingering Republican hesitancy over the safety of the vaccine. This month, about "25 out of every 100,000 residents of heavily Trump counties died from Covid, more than three times higher than the rate in heavily Biden counties," the Times found. The analysis – which defines "Trump counties" as any that saw at least 60% of their electorate vote for Trump in the 2020 election – also observed that the gap appears to be climbing. According to the Times, the difference is most likely explained by the emergence of the COVID-19 vaccine, which has seen much higher rates of hesitancy amongst conservatives. In fact, prior to the vaccine, when the nation saw a marked partisan discrepancy in the use of public health measures, there was a marginal partisan difference in the death rates. "The true explanation is straightforward," explained the Times' David Leonhardt. "The vaccines are remarkably effective at preventing severe Covid, and almost 40 percent of Republican adults remain unvaccinated, compared with about 10 percent of Democratic adults."

North Dakota Lawmaker Gets COVID, Forced To Miss His Anti-Vaccine Rally. Republican Rep. Jeff Hoverson said he is taking the deworming drug ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment, and has not checked into a hospital. BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota lawmaker and an organizer of a rally Monday to oppose COVID-19 vaccine mandates is infected with the coronavirus and won’t attend the event. Republican Rep. Jeff Hoverson posted on Facebook Sunday that he was “quarantining and each day is getting better.” The Minot lawmaker said he is taking the deworming drug ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment, and has not checked into a hospital. “Covid is real and like a really bad flu,” Hoverson wrote. Hoverson, a pastor, told The Associated Press that was diagnosed last week. “I’m feeling rough,” he said Monday. “But this ivermectin is keeping me out of the hospital.” Ivermectin is designed to fight parasitic infections but conservative commentators have promoted it as a treatment for COVID-19, despite a lack of conclusive evidence that it helps. “It’s making me better,” Hoverson said. The North Dakota Legislature returned to Bismarck Monday for a special five-day session during which a bill to prevent vaccine mandates will almost certainly gain approval. House Majority Leader Chet Pollert said Hoverson could participate remotely. North Dakota’s Republican leadership and GOP Gov. Doug Burgum have said they oppose such mandates and the state has joined a federal lawsuit challenging President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine rules. Although Hoverson will not attend the rally at North Dakota’s statehouse, he said three of his teenage children will be there. Hoverson is among the most far-right legislators in the GOP-controlled Legislature. He introduced legislation last session to repeal mask mandates and he sponsored failed legislation that would have made it a felony to help women access abortions. Last month, he was barred from boarding a flight at Minot International Airport after a run-in with a security agent. And as a freshman legislator two years ago, Hoverson protested a prayer by a Hindu cleric, saying he didn’t “want to be compelled to pray for a false god.” North Dakota Lawmaker Gets COVID, Forced To Miss His Anti-Vaccine Rally | HuffPost Latest News
