  1. Trump Responds To Merrick Garland By Blaming Obama Obama Transferred His Documents Through The National Archives The big problem with Trump’s claim is that Barack Obama didn’t steal the documents from the National Archives.
  2. Merrick Garland Says He ‘Personally Approved’ Seeking Mar-A-Lago Search Warrant Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday that he had “personally approved” the decision for the FBI to seek a search warrant to raid former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home on Monday. The Department of Justice has moved to make the warrant public, he said, citing the clear public interest in the investigation. Law enforcement authorities had been searching for any potentially sensitive classified government documents that had been improperly kept at Mar-a-Lago, according to reports that the Department of Justice appeared to confirm Thursday in a court filing. The spectacle of executing a search warrant at the home of a former president led to speculation that the contents of the possible materials were highly sensitive. Garland declined to give any detail about what the FBI may have found at the Florida resort. “Federal law, longstanding department rules and our ethical obligations prevent me from providing further details as to the basis of the search at this time,” Garland said. “There are, however, certain points that I want you to know, “First, I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter. Second, the department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken.” A Trump-appointed federal judge reviewed the evidence at hand and approved the search warrant, as is the usual procedure.

  4. FBI Director details the 'deplorable' threats he’s received since Mar-a-Lago search The director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) recently shared details about the disturbing threats he's received since agents searched former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago property in Florida. On Wednesday, August 10, Christopher Wray called the threats leveled toward the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice “deplorable and dangerous.” "I’m always concerned about threats to law enforcement,” Wray said during a news conference at the FBI's Omaha, Neb., office. “Violence against law enforcement is not the answer, no matter who you’re upset with.” Many of the threats have been made via social media platforms that typically cater to far-right extremists and Trump supporters. Per HuffPost, "reactions included the ubiquitous 'Lock and load' and calls for federal agents and even U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to be assassinated." On the social media platform Gab, one social media user who only goes by the name Stephen said that he was "awaiting 'the call' to mount an armed revolution. “All it takes is one call. And millions will arm up and take back this country. It will be over in less than 2 weeks,” the post said. Another posting on the same platform also said, “Let's get this started! This unelected, illegitimate regime crossed the line with their GESTAPO raid! It is long past time the lib socialist filth were cleansed from American society!” https://www.alternet.org/2022/08/fbi-director-sheds-light-on-the-deplorable-threats-he-s-received-since-the-mar-a-lago-search/ AND: Gunfire With Police: Reports “Law enforcement has traded shots with a male suspect who is wearing a gray shirt and body armor,” an alert said. Police have exchanged gunfire with an armed man after he made threats at an FBI building in Cincinnati, according to reports. The incident began Thursday morning after a man armed with a gun showed up to the building and began making threats, the FBI said in a statement. “At approximately 9 AM this morning an armed subject attempted to breach the Visitor Screening Facility at #FBI Cincinnati,” the FBI’s Cincinnati bureau said on Twitter. “After an alarm and a response by FBI special agents, the subject fled north onto Interstate 71.”
  5. I think fake outrage (actually Trump probably believes he is a victim) is the only item in his tool kit. Rage and lies have served him handsomely for most of his 77 years, so that is his "go-to". He has surrounded himself with enough lickspittles that literally anything he does will be applauded. When all you have is a hammer, you tend to see all problems as nails. We (and America) have not seen the most extreme of Trump yet.
  6. Getting a break away from Fajardo's whining will do that.
  7. At the risk of dooming the Blue, I think the biggest concern that O'Shea & Co need to be concerned about is whether or not to run up the score or which backup to put in once the game is decided.
  8. Should the game plan be for Fajardo to start running, even if its a few dashes at first to loosen up coverage on his receivers, he is gonna get dinged again and we all know how well he does when he gets hit.
  9. Trump Launches Conspiracy Theory That FBI Was 'Planting' Evidence At Mar-a-Lago and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has joined the right-wing influencers backing him up. Former president Donald Trump and his allies are preemptively warning that any incriminating evidence found at his Florida estate was planted there by the FBI. Trump complained on his ersatz social media platform Wednesday that his lawyers were not allowed to observe the federal agents who searched the property on Monday. “Everyone was asked to leave the premises, they wanted to be left alone, without any witnesses to see what they were doing, taking or, hopefully not, ‘planting,’” Trump wrote. “Why did they STRONGLY insist on having nobody watching them, everybody out?” The FBI searched Trump’s home in Palm Beach, Florida, reportedly as part of an investigation into Trump’s well-documented refusal to turn over presidential records at the end of his term. The Justice Department has not divulged any details about the investigation. The National Archives and Records Administration has said Trump belatedly delivered 15 boxes of documents this year. Because the boxes contained classified material that the president had removed from the White House, the agency said it notified the Department of Justice. Instead of waiting for any information about the investigation, Republicans in Congress have rushed to Trump’s defense, saying they will retaliate against the Justice Department and suggesting that it’s fundamentally improper to investigate whether the former president broke the law. Now Trump’s allies are also saying that if a crime was committed, Trump didn’t do it. Right-wing influencers such as Newt Gingrich, Charlie Kirk, Alex Jones and Steve Bannon on Tuesday came up with the theory that the FBI raided Trump’s property to plant evidence. Fox News host Jesse Waters amplified the baseless claim on his show that evening. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-fbi-conspiracy-theory-planted-evidence_n_62f3fe83e4b001e175d9f874
  10. Much as I am a Bomber booster, the Lions-Stampeders game ought to have the most drama. Two well-matched teams with good offences and quarterbacks who are really playing for second place homefield advantage in the playoffs.

  13. Law enforcement had serious concerns': Reporter reveals FBI gained access to Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage 'Law enforcement had serious concerns': Reporter reveals FBI gained access to Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage Former President Donald Trump speaking at the "Rally to Protect Our Elections," hosted by Turning Point Action at the Arizona Federal Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, Gage Skidmore Meaghan Ellis August 10, 2022 A new report is shedding more light on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) findings during the search of former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. According to CNN, new details have emerged about the FBI gaining access to Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage. During Wednesday's segment of CNN's "At This Hour" with host Kate Bolduan, Katelyn Polantz offered a brief update on what transpired at the former president's estate on Tuesday, August 9. "There were new details about FBI's Florida home," Bolduan said. "CNN has learned from investigators that the former president or his team did not return the government documents that were taken when they left the White House." Polantz chimed in with further details about what was retrieved during the search. "It's been two days since the search and we are learning more about what prompted it in Mar-a-Lago on Monday," Polantz explained. "So, law enforcement had serious concerns about what was happening there on the Trump side," she noted. "Back in January, the national archives went to Florida to reclaim 15 boxes of records from the Trump presidency that were not Trump's to keep. So, we knew that." Polantz added, "And then that incident launched this criminal investigation into the handling of classified records. Then this week, of course, the DOJ goes back in with a search warrant for more boxes and documents and those records, if they had gotten out, could have national security implications and that's according to our sources now." The CNN correspondent went on to share details about the surveillance videos the FBI gained access to at the former president's estate. "So we also know in this investigation that federal authorities subpoenaed and received access to Mar-a-Lago's surveillance videos so that they were able to understand the security around these documents in recent weeks," she said.
  14. And once our O-line gets healthy and settled, and Oliviera gains experience and more confidence, the difference will be even more apparent, particularly with Harris injuring his wrist last game-not good for lugging the ball or catching it.
  15. I believe that what you see as divisive politics by the Liberals is mostly hysteria generated by the newly-energized right wing nutjobs which have a disproportionate influence on both the PCs and media, giving them a much larger profile that their numbers warrant. The Trudeau government has enforced the existing laws about public health and safety (the mask/vaccination stuff) but the final choices were made by the provincial governments. As far as I can tell, the federal government has not gone out of its way to antagonize people, right-wing or not. There are bottlenecks in government services, both federal and provincial and there appear to multiple reasons for that, some beyond government control. The small but vocal and sometimes unhinged minority in Canada (and elsewhere) are having hissy-fits because they are not getting their way, and often for good reason. The trucker infestations in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Alberta are examples- they wanted all COVID measures repealed instantly and for the federal government to be overturned without due process. The economic situation such as high housing prices has been here before and looks to be cyclical. The measures required to correct it are probably unpalatable to most (eg: some cities in Europe require that houses must be sold to the city and bought from them, and have kept housing prices way down). In the meantime, the rich are getting richer and the poor are disproportionally taxed. Yes it is, and appears to have been born out of the frustration related to the lack of response to the trucker occupations in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Coutts, Alberta.
  16. A couple of developments today: firstly, the section of the FBI that obtained the search warrant (signed off by a Trump-appointed judge) was applied for by the section of the FBI that deals with espionage, and secondly, Trump is refusing to release or show the warrant that was served on him and discloses exactly what the FBI is looking for. All of which indicates that this is serious stuff. Trump is apparently alternating between rage and terror.
  17. There is growing speculation that an insider is feeding information to the American DOJ. Melania? One of his sons, daughter, or son in law desperate to avoid jail?

  20. Smoke rising after explosions near a Russian military air base in Crimea on Tuesday. ODESA, Ukraine — A series of explosions rocked a key Russian air base in Kremlin-occupied Crimea on Tuesday, killing at least one person and sowing confusion among local officials about the cause and whether Ukraine’s military could threaten targets on the peninsula. Publicly, Ukrainian officials would not confirm the involvement of Ukraine’s military, as Russian and occupation officials scrambled to determine the source of the blasts, raising the terrorist threat level in the area. But a senior Ukrainian military official with knowledge of the situation said that Ukrainian forces were responsible, having carried out an attack on the Saki air base on the western coast of Crimea. Speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military matters, the official said the air base was one from which planes regularly took off for attacks on Ukrainian forces. The official would not disclose what type of weapon caused the explosions, saying only that “a device exclusively of Ukrainian manufacture was used.” A Ukrainian attack on Russian forces in the Crimean Peninsula would represent a significant expansion of Ukraine’s offensive efforts, which had mostly been confined to pushing Russian troops from territories occupied after Feb. 24, when the invasion began. For weeks, however, Ukraine has been shifting troops and striking deeper behind the front lines than before, as it signals that it is preparing a major counteroffensive in the Kherson region and uses longer-range weapons supplied by the West. Crimea, shielded by the Russian Navy and heavily fortified after eight years in Russian control, has largely been spared the violence. Last month, a small explosive device delivered by drone blew up at the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in the Crimean port of Sevastopol, injuring six but causing little damage. Russia blamed Ukrainian forces for the attack, but Ukrainian officials vociferously denied it. A strike in Crimea would also be an embarrassment for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, who often speaks of Crimea, which he illegally annexed from Ukraine in 2014, as if it were hallowed ground. Ukraine possesses few weapons that can reach the peninsula, aside from aircraft that would risk being shot down immediately by Russia’s heavy air defenses in the region. The air base, which is near the city of Novofederivka, is well over 100 miles from the nearest Ukrainian military position. https://www.thedailybeast.com/ukraine-claims-responsibility-for-massive-blasts-at-russian-base-in-crimea-despite-kremlins-story?ref=home
  21. GOP Senator says Democrats support abortions up to 52 weeks Another Republican man is being humiliated publicly after they revealed that they have no idea about the biology of female humans. For years, Republicans, men, in particular, have been ridiculed for bizarre ideas they have about biology that are not only false but laughably so. Todd Akin, who ran for the U.S. Senate in Missouri, infamously said that women can't get pregnant from rape because if it is a "legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." That's false. Over the weekend, Indiana state Rep. John Jacob (R) claimed, "The body inside of the mom's body is not her body. Let me repeat that: The body inside of the mom's body is not her body. Not her body, not her choice." Rush Limbaugh infamously decided to shoot all women who sought an abortion. "You know how to stop abortion? Require that each one occur with a gun," he announced. Similarly, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) tweeted his idea in 2013, "If babies had guns, they wouldn't be aborted." Conservative blogger Erick Erickson, who now has his own radio show, told women in 2013 that they should bookmark a website where they can buy clothes hangers to perform their own abortions. Now Sen. Tim Scot (R-SC) can now be added to the list. Huffington Post reporter Amanda Terkel reported that Scott thinks women carry a fetus for longer than 52 weeks and that Democrats want abortions up to 52 weeks. The comment came in a Monday fundraising email saying, "If we don’t take back the Senate, Dems will pack the courts, give DC statehood, grant abortions up to 52 weeks, and Republicans will never win again." Dr. Meera Shah, chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, told Terkel, "It is not logical or medically accurate to say that people can be pregnant at 52 weeks ― let alone be seeking an abortion. It is comments like this one that underscore exactly why medical decisions should not be made by politicians." https://www.alternet.org/2022/08/gop-senator-abortion-52-weeks/

  23. Olivia Newton-John Spoke Candidly About Death In One Of Her Last Interviews Olivia Newton-John gave her perspective on death and the afterlife in a candid discussion on the “A Life of Greatness” podcast. “I’ve had quite a few times where I’ve contemplated it as being a possibility sooner than I would’ve wanted it,” the actor said with a laugh, after podcast host, Sarah Grynberg asked the actor if she’d contemplated her own death, or what happens after people die, given her longtime struggle with breast cancer. “I mean, we all know that we’re gonna die. I think we spend our lives probably much in denial of it,” Newton-John added. The interview took place in February 2021 and is one of Newton-John’s last appearances. It resurfaced following the “Grease” star’s death on Monday at age 73. “Everyone that I know who’s had a near-death experience, my husband being one of them, says it’s the most unbelievable feeling of love that you have ever experienced and you don’t want to come back. So I’m kind of looking forward to that ― not now ― but when it happens,” she said.
  24. Apparently there is only one Rebel Media and that is in Canada run by the disgraced Ezra Levant, which is ironic because "Levant" is a Jewish name in all likelihood, and these right-wing jackholes are as antisemitic as it gets.
