Police officers are easily some of the most overpaid "professionsals" in the workforce today.  Considering how much of the work they do is rather mundane and unnecessary (ie. handing out speeding tickets at various speed traps across the city, getting OT for attending court when people who have been given tickets for ticky-tack things like decals on their windshield have decided to challenge them) and very few run into dangerous situations on a regular basis, the wages are absolutely ridiculous.  $100,000 after 5 years?!  Ridiculous pensions too!  The arbitration system is a big culprit in all of this.
People complain about lack of money for proper infrastructure in this city and province and the ongoing deficits.  The police(mostly) and to a lesser extent, teachers and firefighters' runaway salaries and pensions are the biggest factors gobbling up vast quantities of tax revenues - their salary increases over-and-above the rate of inflation seemingly year after year.  There needs to be either a) salary freeze for a few years or b)1-2% increases in line with the inflation rate.

We also should be reducing the hours and size of the police force if anything as crime rates are much lower than they were two decades ago.  Don't mention that to the Winnipeg police union though - I'm sure if you asked them crime is at an all-time high and the kids are running wild.  Gotta go now and catch the next speeder in a 50 km/hr zone!lol

Bad comparison.  There are thousands of parking spots within  a 5-10 minute walk from the MTS Centre and traffic filters out in all directions on several different streets...as opposed to IGF where all traffic filters on to one street and many of the parking lots that charge money are still a good 20-25 walk from the front gates of the stadium. As an aside, I went to two Jet games this year and parked for free on the street for both... only a 5-6 minute walk from City Place.

Great new family package!  Looking at season ticket packages in the P7 zone, a family of 4 may attend all 11 games (home playoff game this year Bombers!) for the price of $16.50 per person per game.  That's practically Goldeyes pricing.

blueandgoldguy reacted to TrueBlue in New for 2017 - Family Pricing
Making Bomber football a family affordable experience has been one of the top priorities over the off-season.  New for this season are family offers for season, flex and individual game tickets.
If this is something that you or someone you know may be interested in, I would recommend checking this out:
    http://www.bluebombers.com/tickets/family/
    Some key points:
-You can now add a youth season ticket to any adult account for as little as $15/game.
-Youth tickets (15 and under) can now be purchased in any P7 section, in addition any P5 section in the south endzone.
    -Youth ticket single game prices:   P7: $15.00   P5: $19.00
With these new prices, a family of 4 (mom & dad + 2 kids) can come to a game for as little as $84.50, which is the lowest family offer in the CFL.
Guys we are talking about considerable savings.  We want to be able to give families the opportunity to attend Bomber games this season without breaking the bank.
    What do you think?

I think that having an untested Davis as our #2 QB is the biggest risk we are taking this year. I'm pretty confident in saying that we will need to start our #2 QB at least a couple of times this year. I'd be much more comfortable if our #2 guy had actually won a CFL game or at had thrown for more then 170 yards.
Last year, Walters understood that we needed a vet backup when he said he wouldn't make the Willy trade without being able to bring a vet QB in. This year we can't afford a vet QB and the out of work backup QB's are expecting #1 QB money.

I'd say all are more experienced and Cato and Matthews are better than Dom. If any of them expect #1 QB money, they're dreaming.  If we are going to sign any of them, it needs to be before TC so they can get the reps and learn the offense.

blueandgoldguy got a reaction from Tracker in Would we have any interest in Franklin?
Defense played the biggest role in loss yesterday, followed by O'Shea's inexplicable blunder at the end.  Nichols played a role in the loss though.  If he actually generated a TD drive in the second half like one of the better starters in the league would have, the game would not have come down to a bad decision from O'Shea.
Nichols is one of the weakest starters in the league and the Bombers will have to better than most other teams like BC, Edmonton, Ottawa, Calgary, Hamilton in all other areas - running, special teams, defense - to compensate for the lack of quality at the QB position.  Right now, they aren't and it's unlikely that will happen anytime soon.
Right now, Nichols is the undisputed starter on the team and bringing back our current backups and whatever signings or castoffs Walters brings in from down south is will not result in any serious competition for the starter's spot next season (Bombers are incapable of recruiting and developing their own Qbs; we have known this for a generation or longer now).  The best bet would be to use a first round pick+ to entice the Eskimos to trade Franklin to the Bombers and get him signed to an extension.  That would provide legit competition at next year's camp.
Franklin has shown quite well in the games he has played and started in this season and last.  Despite these limited appearances, all indications are he will be a star Qb in the league.  This is similar to Mike Reilly, who despite even more limited appearances with the Lions, was touted to be a star Qb when he was given the starter's job and proved to be just that with Edmonton.
Hopefully Walters has the courage to make a move for Franklin which should put this team on a more even standing at the Qb position with other teams in the league.  The Bombers have the assets to make such a move thanks to the WIlly deal and shouldn't be afraid to use them accordingly.
    Get it done Walters.

    Um What?
    It's not a real statistic.
If it is, please verify it for me.
According to CFL.ca Medlock has never made a field goal from 61 yards out. So if anything the stat would be 0 for how ever many times he has attempted it.
The 3 of 12 is a verifiable stat.  It was accumulated from actual results in actual games.
The 1 of 3 is just something that Medlock said he could probably do. It's not a real stat.

I never made the claim that it was.

This year in the CFL teams in 3rd and 4 situations were 3 of 12 (25%) = Real statistic.
Medlock said he could make that 1/3 times = Not a real statistic.
Why are people comparing them as if they are? lol

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.  A 61-yard field goal kick that has never been made in a dome in the history of the CFL has about equal odds of success as a 3rd and four (someone already pointed out the success rate of 4 of 12 on 3rd and four attempts in the CFL this year).  Use some common sense man.  I thought you were the resident expert on football around here?

30% or so success rate on 3rd and 4 is not nearly 0.  A 61-yard field goal attempt that has never been made in a dome is though.

I looked at the game log and there was 3 seconds left in that game so they choice would have been
    a) have Leone kick a 61 yarder  which is what the Lions did - probably 1% chance of succeeding
    OR
    b. throw a hail mary to the end zone - less than one percent chance of succeeding
There was 36 seconds in the Bomber game.  Bomber choices were
    a) kick field goal - which they did - again, less than 1% chance of succeeding
    b. gamble on third and 4 - probably had 40 - 50% chance of succeeding.  They would have also had time for 2 or 3 more plays had they made it.

Please don't attempt to draw comparisons between a nearly impossible field goal attempt with 3 seconds on the clock vs one with 36 seconds on the clock.  It's insulting.  O'shea's decision defied logic.

Was that attempt earlier in the year made with 36 seconds on the clock and time for 3 more plays?  Because if it was made with less than 7-8 seconds left and/or an incredibly long yardage to get the first down, it is of little relevance to the  terrible decision O'Shea made.
