Michael Sam Possibly Playing for Als Next Season
blueandgoldguy replied to TrueBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think Michael Sam can be very successful in the CFL. I was surprised he didn't make the roster of the Rams (although they do have quite a bit of depth at linebacker) given the excellent pre-season he had with them. -
Michael Sam Possibly Playing for Als Next Season

a little over fifty years ago, blacks were regularly strung up from trees, for things like going out with a white woman. in 1963 white racists blew up a church with a bunch of little black girls in it, the kids all died. a few years or so ago, cops in New York gunned down an unarmed black bridegroom on his wedding night. He was doing nothing. they shot him a hundred or so times. a few years ago a black kid in texas was hooked up and dragged behind a car, till he died. The police wanted to say it was hit and run. Colin Powell, Secretary of Defence for Bush, has been racially profiled. A black harvard professor was arrested going into his own home. Cops broke into an old black guy's apartment in New York last year, as a result of a screw up on a medical alert. A false alarm. He told them he was ok, and told them to go away. they broke in anyway, and tasered him to death. He was doing nothing. unarmed innocent man returning from dinner gunned down. "The Shooting of Amadou Diallo occurred on February 4, 1999, when Amadou Diallo, a 23-year-old immigrant from Guinea, was shot and killed by four New York City Police Department plain-clothed officers: Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward McMellon and Kenneth Boss, who fired a combined total of 41 shots, 19 of which struck Diallo, outside his apartment at 1157 Wheeler Avenue in the Soundview section of The Bronx. The four were part of the now-defunct Street Crimes Unit. All four officers were charged with second-degree murder and acquitted at trial in Albany, New York.[1] get m sam for the bombers!!! And I'm sure that white people are never the object of racism right? If white's are so evil maybe you should paint yourself a more pleasant colour. Racism will ALWAYS exist, on ALL sides, TO all sides. This is life, this Earth, this is the human race. Facepalm. You miss the point entirely. Racism and discrimination experienced by white males (which is probably 99% of people here) is a tiny fraction of what is experienced by all others. We lead a privileged life compared to all others in the human race. -

Doesn't that make just as much sense as what you said? Yes, because for the last 200-400 years it's been the blacks and natives in positions of social, economic, and political power. * *And yes, that was dripping in sarcasm. OK, but it's not 200 years ago now. How equal is equal enough before you will start calling minorities "fricken losers" like you just did towards white people? Also, why are we talking about this here? Come on man. I didn't call white people fricken losers -- I called young, smart white men who sit around complaining about affirmative action fricken losers. And please -- go tell a black person in Ferguson, MO that "its no longer 200 years ago." In what sense? That a thug who breaks the law and attacks a police officer is allowed to get away with it because he's black, the cop is white and there is a racial devide in the city? Given the differing accounts given by witnesses to the shooting and the improper procedures by the police afterwards (to possibly cover things up) in their investigation it is not certain that he attacked the police officer. You need to do a little more research. -

You may not like his humor .. but that dude is one self depricating son of a *****. Pretentious? Not in the least. His show is brilliant. One of the best comedies, maybe even the best on TV right now. He is definitely not afraid to make himself look like a putz on the show. -

So why are white older males in control of most power positions in Western society. Where is this artificial advantage you speak of. -
Agreed. Crompton without Carter inspires little to no confidence in me. Popp signed Carter and Green. No reason he can't sign some new stud receivers next year. Green is only 30 - should have a few prime years left. And the defense? Yes, some of them are getting older, but Popp has proven capable of finding good replacements his entire tenure in Montreal. Crompton is an average QB. They probably won't win a Grey Cup with him at the helm unless they are dominant at all other positions (see the Bombers in 1990 with Tom Burgess). Will see if Popp can find some promising recruits this off-season.

Bombers benched Grigsby for partying late
blueandgoldguy replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
10 rushes for 22 yards and a fumble. Another special Grigsby performance! Hope you enjoyed him Ticat fans! For the above posters, Charles suffered an injury while with BC. Granted he was on the downswing before the injury, but even if he wasn't that injury might have been the end of him. Also, Roberts was traded for Joe Smith who played the following year with us in 2009. He and Reid paired off in the backfield that season. -
What did he do? Missed it. Laid on the sideline crying rather than getting out there with the offense to try to win the game. Yup.. Just embarrassing.. He was their only legit deep ball threat and how does he face adversity? Crying and punching the ground.. What a dumbass.. Great talent but not much upstairs apparently.. I dunno - tell you what - how about you run full out for about 130 yards, then go back in the game immediately - the man was out of gas, that's why he wasn't in there. And worse, that block was unnecessary, Banks would have beat him at the point of attack easy - so I don't blame him for being upset. Hmmmm. Not so sure about that. Would he have tackled him? Maybe not. But he would have at the very least got an arm on him to slow him down and allow other players to come in and take him down. Also the player that was held could have certainly made a play on Banks as well.
-
Heard on TSN1290 that one of the Stamps said that they could have caught him, but wanted them to run down the clock. No way any of the Stamps catch him. They would have caught Banks but for those blocking from behind and the hold. Those players had a line on banks and at the very least would have slowed him down enough to allow other players catch him and tackle him for a limited gain.

I was impressed by both quarterbacks. Both Callaros and Mitchell did well to evade pressure to turn potential negative yardage into positive yardage on several occasions....although Mitchell struggled with accuracy a little in the second half with some throws that were slightly off that could have resulted in positive yardage/first downs. On that interception, it's tough to say for sure, but it appeared the intended receiver slowed down on his route at the point the ball was released by Mitchell - he could have contested that ball, but instead it was an easy interception. Ticats did a great job on defense in the second half. Continued to limit Cornish on the ground when he did carry the ball, constant pressure on Mitchell, appeared to be good coverage in the secondary although it's tough to tell for sure on TV. LOL at the fans on Ticats forum whining about the penalty - Half the Distance (biggest whiner and homer I've seen on any CFL forum when it comes to calls by the ref) and AnotherDork posting tweets by Doug Brown and Arash Madani saying the officials determined the game...another claiming it was a borderline penalty..yeah right, it only allowed Hamilton to score a touchdown! There was two penalties that were legit on that kick return touchdown. Funny thing is some of those same posters will complain about Arash and Doug calling them arrogant and idiotic when it doesn't fit their homer viewpoint. Bigger whiners than what we have on our forum. Arash Madani saying in front of the largest Canadian TV audience of the year the officials determined the game. You can tell he works for CFL-Hating Rogers. No Arash, the CFL officials did their job. If that wasn't called, I'm sure you would have pointed out the incompetence of the officials for NOT calling the hold and blocking from behind on the replay and said the same thing! Sounds like Hufnagel will be headed upstairs so to speak to concentrate on GM duties. Should hear an announcement tomorrow by the looks of things and we will probably get an announcement for Dickenson as the new head coach. Congrats to Hufnagel as one of the greatest coaches the CFL has ever seen..albeit only for 7 years, but what a record! And congrats to the Stamps. Ticats impressed me with Collaros and their defense. I was expecting another boring non-competitive Grey Cup for the 4th year in a row, but they didn't roll over and quit in the second half. Assuming they can keep all the key players around for next year and there are no serious injuries to Collaros I can see 12 wins in 2012.

From Wikipedia: In January 2013, Erickson left Sun News Network and began working as a freelance foreign television correspondent based in London and filed reports for CBS News.[7] By the end of the year, she had left journalism for law school. Yeah, just saw that. Wonder is she was forced out of Sun News or left of her own accord. Pretty hilarious seeing her chastise the likes of that dancer on Sun News for taking money from the taxpayer when she essentially did the same for how many upteen years working for the CBC. Hypocrite. And then there was that incident of collusion involving her some years ago when she worked for the CBC. Hey, whatever happened to Doug Berry?

Whatever happened to Krista Erickson. From Sun News anchor to...uh, what exactly? Seems she disappeared nearly 2 years ago.

Help Clarence beat the rider fans
blueandgoldguy replied to Engelwood's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Sorry guys, it's hopeless. A Rider player will always win the play of the year if fans are allowed to vote (Has a rider play ever not won this?). Doesn't matter if the play is pedestrian or not - Rider fans will vote for it. -
Seriously!? That's strange. I believe one time last year he was posting on Riderfans under a different name when someone else asked him why he had not posted in such a long time and had made such a dramatic change to his username, his response was that someone had threatened to get him. Maybe I'm getting things mixed up and the guy who said that was someone else and the person who did the threatening was Migs.

Congrats on a great season Saskatchewan ...

Looks like Lawless was right with his initial report that Durant was not mentally ready to play. I don't think it's a poor attitude on the part of Durant or lack of toughness. I would think it's the athlete's ability to trust in the recovery of the injury to the point that they can utilize that body part - in this case his throwing arm. - to it's full potential. -
2015 season ticket and Grey Cup ticket pricing info
blueandgoldguy replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I will disagree on the marketing ploy that happens everywhere bit. No other team in the CFL has ever asked for a three year commitment from their fans to give them the discount. The average price for a ticket will be the highest ever in history by the looks of things. Don't think that's necessary when the Bombers have 1000 club seats going for who knows how much, 46 suites and 30 or so loges - three big moneymakers that are in short supply or simply do not exist in places like Edmonton, Calgary and Regina. I hope the game sells out before the season begins, but I'm skeptical at those prices. Maybe the Bombers believe it will due to stronger than usual corporate support? -
Trestman's NFL time ending it looks like
blueandgoldguy replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The defense on the Bear has been going downhill for at least 3 years now prior to Trestman even being hired by the team. Nothing has improved there, aside from signing declining free agents like Jared Allen (who was not very noticeable in his final season with the Vikings and drafting poorly on the defensive side of the ball. A few weeks back, the Bears lost due to a couple of late costly turnovers by Cutler. Bears were in the lead and those turnovers allowed the opposition to take the lead and win the game. -

Als @ TiCats / Riders @ Eskis - The Final Showdown
blueandgoldguy replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Crompton will never be anything more than an average QB. Probably looks better than that because of the horrible display put on by Troy Smith and Alex Brink earlier this season. Of course, you can win with an average Qb provided you have an excellent defense, a good o-line, excellent receivers and great running back. Bombers proved this in 1990 with Burgess at the helm. Als seem to have all the pieces with possible exception of running back (not sure of injury status there) and O-line (not sure if I would categorize as good..say top 3 in the league, or average..say top 4-5 in the league). -
2015 season ticket and Grey Cup ticket pricing info
blueandgoldguy replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Speaking of ticket prices anyone take a gander at the prices the Als are charging at Percival-Molson Stadium for the East Semi-final. $150 for top ticket prices and 2/3 of the seats are over $95! Not surprisingly, tickets are selling slowly - less than 1/3 sold by my estimate. Talk about misjudging the market. Wouldn't be surprised if that stadium is half empty for the game. Should have bundled playoff tickets with regular season ticketholder packages at a higher price. -
Yeah, it's not Rays fault his receivers were injured half the season. Don't think any team suffered as many injuries as the Argos did this year. If they had the league average in man games lost to injury they would have probably ended up with 10-11 wins. What really hurts them though is that loss to RedBlacks earlier in the season. Should have had that one.

I got one better - as a coach I survived not one but TWO 2 - 14 seasons, back to back, with an existing club. Granted, I was a legend in that town, and was fired after the second year, but I learned. I went on to be a very successful Coach in Edmonton and Hamilton, winning a Grey Cup in each city as a coach, in between my gigs as a color commentator on the CBC. Do you know who I am? Jim Spavital went 2-14 in 1970 as the rookie HC of the Bombers. He wasn't fired in the off season which some fans had hoped for but GM EarlLunsford kept him around. He was rewarded for his loyalty to Spav as the team improved to 7-8-1 in 1971 to snag a third place playoff spot in the West for the first time since 1966. Then under Spavital the Bombers improved to 10-6 in 1972. They were the best regular season CFL team that year only to lose the West Final to the Riders at Winnipeg Stadium. A team that just got into the playoffs with an 8-8 record. Massive upset. So, maybe the redblacks improve enough to get a playoff spot next year or win 6 or 7 games. Who knows? But to fire Campbell after a single season? Well, that would be a typical dickish Marcel Desjardins move if he thought he'd be saving his own skin. I'm curious what happened to the Bombers that day in 1972 iso? Before my time. Were you at that game or did you watch it on tv? Edit: Ok I see you were at the game, but I'm not familiar with this phantom call. Can't find any video on youtube either Chances are you'll never see it either anywhere as the CFL as well as the CTV & CBC Networks never saved their game day footage. The CFL HOF probably doesn't have any footage either which is a damned shame. Let me set it up for you. The game was tied 24-24. On the final play of the game Rider kicker Jack Abendschan missed a 35 yard FG. We had 3 returners in the end zone with expressed instructions to kick it out if they couldn't return it out by running as the game would then go to OT. Two of the returners were punter Mike Law & Walt McKee our FG kicker. After a series of punts back & forth in & out of the end zone we were called for no yards on the punt that the Riders had fielded & kicked back into the end zone. Ref blew the play dead & the ball moved to our 20 yard line & Riders kicked the winning FG with no time left after they missed it the first time. They won the game in the shittiest way possible. The season was over because of that ******* bullshit call. The ball was kicked in & out of the end zone at least three times as the game was tied when this was going on. Thing is, the refs called US for No Yards when the Riders were just as guilty of No Yards when we caught the football in the end zone but of course no call vs them. That's what everyone was angry about. The fans were in a frenzy & wanted referees blood. I had been to every game since 1969 & season ticket holder from 1974 to 1990 & I never saw the fans like that before or after. Interesting. Was this a big deal with the media in Winnipeg after it happened? I guess it must have been. I would imagine our play-by-play announcers and the national play-by-play announcers would have made some comments on it as well.

I'll go with a Montreal victory by 11 in this one. 25-14
