  1. Thank you.........at the time I thought he would have a great future, you had to be something special to dislodge Kenny Ploen.
  2. Jim Van Pelt was the winning QB for the Bombers in 1958 and 1959. Actually beat out Kenny Ploen for the QB position but unfortunately had a short career. I don't know why, but he beat out who most on this board consider the greatest.
  3. Matty was the best........but who was his competition at the FP during his hay days? I seem to recall whoever that was, he was still much better than what we have now. The Bombers were blessed with 2 exceptional beat writers back then. Matty at the Tribune & Don "Doc" Blanchard at the Free Press. They could write circles around the the writers the papers have covering them today. Thank you....I agree.

  5. Has been since day one. Too bad they did not start him week 1. Even with Gerry Crouton he would have gained experience . Marcy Bellbuelier is not showing better anyways.I guess adding Tigerscraps is not a sound plan after all. There's a forest out there. You two bumbling cats keep looking at the tree.
  6. Yes......and he has to exercise it quickly as this season is probably done with our latest loss to a division rival. In my estimation firing Burke would be a mercy killing. The look and expressions on his face lately. as well as the questionable comments suggests he is totally lost and neutered in this environment now. Crowton as well as the DC will be replaced by a new HC.
  7. The problems this team now faces are so multi-faceted that a total housecleaning is now in order. No more tinkering. We got what we deserved by hiring: -A CEO wirh no CFL experience and replacing him with a CEO with CFL expperience but no CEO experience. ( we don't learn) - a GM decades removed from the CFL with no GM experience and replacing him with a GM with no experience.( we don't learn) - A head coach with no head coach experience. - A OC with no CFL experience. - A DC with a losing experience that was somebody's friend. All this backed up by a meddling knee jerk board of directors, and a disillusioned fan base, clearly explains where we are at today...................and we spent so much time blaming Buck. Not that he is excused, as there are digns of deterioration. But we have also been mislead with talent level. In terms of players, who needs to be replaced: - right side of o-line -Simpson-lost a step since surgery and cut problems -Denmark-route running problems -Poblah- can't catch -CM- can't make a play - Suber- lost his closing speed and height issues with "tall drinks of water" - JJ maybe(last two games OK) - Stewart- speed and desire seem to have vanished In terms of QB ride Buck till he's injured again, backed by Hall and Goltz and actively dig for talent or trade.
  8. Why should Mack respond to the Winnipeg Sun. It's not a newspaper, it's Conservative party publication. There's no room for politics in sports.
  9. Based on over a decade of stats with these coaches, I would say get Berry back. ( i would say Ritchie, but he's in a rocking chair somewhere.) Berry can be available and would probably jump at the chance..............it would mean we finally hire a coach with previous coaching experience, regardless of deja vous, and he probably has learned from his previous experiences. Burke is not cutting it and is too honest for his own good. That gamble instead of the field goal sealed it for me. It was desperation!
  10. Based on win percentage: 1.Ritchie 2.Berry 3.Kelly 4.Burke 5.Lapo 6.Daly
  11. It was the belief of LaPo, Burke and several other coaches through the past two regimes that Buck had the better arm. Given the circumstances, there is some merit in trying to turn Buck into a pocket passer. It is apparentally failing for several reasons involving the O-line, talent of receivers, and the vagaries that come with a new system and Buck's adaption to it. I think that more patience is required, but understandably there is no more patience left in Peg City causing a great deal of over reaction. Buck hit Mathews in the face with a pass and knocked him over, the next pass was in the mitts of a receiver that drop[ped it, and another that was hit in the bread basket and was dropped. We tend to focus on the passes sailing over the head of receivers, which all QB's chuck because Buck is a fan target now. I would give him a couple more games before accepting this as failure, but I don't believe this will be allowed in panic city with jobs on the line. Troubled times have come to my home town...........and YES.....big Burke mistake by not playin Buck In exhibition with a new system. These are Buck's exhibition games.
  12. Goltz has the pro arm, but his passing accuracy is questionable. If Buck goes down and he goes in, it will be with the active support of Hall who is a much more accurate passer. Expect a tandem. Goltz was cut last season and accuracy was an issue. He returned because of injury. There has been improvement, but certainly not starter improvement...........his exhibition experience with the rookies did his development some damage. It was a bad decision by Burke. I believe he can improve.
