2035 I put a $100 deposit to get on the cue for the 2024 Silverado EV WT...this is the work truck version that doesn't cost 100k. I received an email from GM Canada stating that they received my deposit and that due to limited supply I was on a cue for the 2026 production year.

Im not sure if you truly understand what you read or you purposely distort what people say to try to reinforce your argument. To be clear, i do not support government subsidies for oil or EVs. Even if every household wanted an EV tomorrow you couldnt get one. No auto manufacturer is within 10 years of that kind of production.

Yep, definite mismanagement by the government ot subsidize big oil. No one is arguing that. Suggesting that subsidies are good because other people got them too is not a compelling argument.

I could care less what the government does to lower prices. If it's taking it from the oil companies....fantastic....even better. What i do know, is that there is a scheduled 15 cent a liter increase in carbon tax coming up in the next couple of weeks. My contention is that it should be delayed given the price of gas right now. If the government, in the meantime or afterwards, wants to find a way to cap the prices at the pump at the expense of the oil companies I'm all for it. They have my complete support.

Exactly. If it weren't for trading government subsidies for profit, Tesla is a money loser....and it's supposed to be the gold standard of EV companies. I would like to sit on an ivory tower like everyone else and extoll the virtues of a great reset, where taxation doesn't matter and cars fart purple rainbows. and the water is so clean we can drink it out of puddles. Unfortunately, for the idealists, this is a fantasy at this point and time and penalizing seniors, low to mid income people to try and make their fairies fly does a ton of damage to their ability to eat, feed their children, and have any kind of half decent shot at normal standard of living. I think many on here would be be very surprised to learn that there are for more people concerned about their gas and heating bills than there are people who are concerned about a green revolution. Tax those people too hard and it's game over for the government of the day. I am certainly not trying to make light of environmental concerns because I too care. However, I care more about having enough money to pay my bills so that I am not forced to live in a cardboard box. When I sold my businesses and retired, I did so with a nest egg that would allow me to retire but not with a ton of breathing room for massive inflation and taxation. The last 2 years has really got me thinking that I may have to go back to work for a few years to make sure I can feed myself when I am a senior. I am far luckier than most in that regard but I worked 100 hour weeks for 25 years to be able to have this leg up. I have many friends and family who are not as fortunate and are selling off assets just to make ends meet, and have no prospect of retirement even though they are eligible. Now I realize that not all of this is the fault of government and there are global issues at play, but I believe it is remarkably short sighted, and narrow minded, for our governments to try squeeze blood from a stone right now. Does delaying tax increases solve the problem of high oil costs, or inflation? No it doesn't, but it is absolutely disingenuous to suggest that tax delays wouldn't help a family struggling to get by right now.,

A ton of people here crying because of big oil making too much money but extolling the virtues of subsidizing one of the world's richest men in Musk. It's hypocrisy. As you stated, they are penalizing his competition right now through taxation. I am not going to debate environmental reform, as it is very important, but making the lower and middle class pay for it at the pump and in their daily heating and grocery bills is a very slimy way to push this agenda forward.

Nice try. I have stated that the NDP are a socialist party. I have never stated they are communist....and communists are a real threat to ANY democratic nation. It's not helping. There is no question that big oil makes big money. That will never change. That doesn't mean that the federal government doesn't have a fiduciary duty to the tax and rate payers to minimize the cost they pay in any way they can.

Nope. I don't think vulgarity is uncalled for at this point and time when looking at the gas prices. I am not saying their is a magic bullet that makes gas prices go down to 50 cents a litre in Canada. However, there is no need to be paying 2 dollars a litre either. We can certainly make up the shortfall of oil created by the sanctions on Russia, and stabilize the price of oil at the 100 dollar a barrel mark if we act quickly and especially if we can get Keystone XL up and running. Of immediate concern is the nonsensical refusal of the Liberal government to delay the next implementation of the carbon tax. They should not only be delaying that, but also repealing former increases until world oil supply stabilizes and prices drop to consumers. The Liberal party just keeps showing how out of touch they are with the lower and middle classes by taxing gasoline at the pump right now.

Last time I checked neither Harper or Kenney were part of the federal government so save your red herring. The time is now for the Liberal party to take a reality check on our national energy policy, quit blaming the past, and doing something now and for the future. Failure to act now is a failure of government. They are the government, if their are areas of concern address them. What will be accomplished by complaining? Maybe change. Last time I checked when enough of the voters complain loudly, the government usually moves these items up on their agenda. Or we can just sit back and take it in the ass like good obedient Canadians. For sure that's a big factor. However, US has a ton of processing capacity for our oil if we were to ship it raw.

Makes zero sense to go get Russian oil or Venezuelas when you have your best friend and ally in Canada with more oil than both of them sitting next door not taking it out of the ground. The Liberals have made a dog's breakfast out of our oil industry and now is the time to correct it.

Canada has as much oil reserves as Russia and UAE combined. Trudeau needs to get the Pipestone XL going.

The West, ALL of them, are not still buying his oil. Canada, for instance, has stopped. Biden is expected to do so in the next couple days and Germany has cancelled the Nordstream pipeline that will cost trillions to Russia in oil exports. The West's condemnation does a hell of a lot more than hurt Putin's feelings. His economy is in free fall, the rouble has crashed and so has his stock market, and China has already come out and stated that they will not be the safety net for their economy and wish to remain somewhat neutral. I am not sure where you are getting your facts from? Vladimir Putin's reign will not survive anything but absolute surrender by the Ukrainians on amicable terms that causes the West to reduce sanctions. Already powerful oligarchs are calling for his head.

China's total trade with Russia per annum is 90 billion dollars China's total trade to the US per annum 1.6 trillion China is going to stay arms length from Russia. They will attempt to leverage the situation to gain trade advantage but siding with Russia completely...not going to happen. It's simple economics really.
