  1. It kills me that Hefney is continually lauded for being a great tackler. He led the Bombers in tackles last year at the DHB position. To me, that screams of being unable to prevent completions; and QB's throwing at him, moreso than great tackling. Anyone know why Darrelle Revis never led the Jets in tackles? Shutdown DB's don't get thrown at frequently...
  2. The other posters hit it on the head... you don't have to be glowingly positive. But you probably should understand a thing or two about football if you are going to write about it. That and not continue to have your nose out of joint because Joe Mack jilted an interview request 2 years ago when you were so fresh off the racetrack and still reeked of horse manure. My point is that Wiecek's article is firmly focused on the negative that is losing the 1st game of the season, and what he considers a less than 1% chance at winning in Montreal. And then we'll get smoked in Hamilton because we lost 52-0 there (notwithstanding that about 5 of those guys made our roster). Then we have to beat the Argos at home, and they won the GC last year, so that won't happen. And Calgary's playing really well... can't win that one either. Then BC... my Lord. We'll be 0-6, and Commissioner Cohon will move them to Phoenix to save the franchise! Where in there are the positives that came from the way our defense pressured Calvillo in week 1? What about how well in a couple of spurts a rusty Buck Pierce played; and how that might translate into a better overall game this week? It is just painfully apparent that he has either no idea, or just doesn't care if we played good, bad, ugly, or 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers football. Lawless' trolling is at least augmented by somewhat understanding and watching football.
  3. Non-starting WR's that aren't good in practice... rarely win starts... because starts are won in practice.
  4. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/buck-and-the-boys-prep-for-eastern-trek-must-win-no-but-214109361.html I am so sick of reading this trolling nonsense out of Wiecek. For a guy who's prior resume includes horseracing, curling, and grade three kickball; the end-of-the-spectrum negatron trolling is rather grating to read... Is it really reporting to suggest the Bombers AFTER ONE GAME are on track to not only lose at Montreal (a team they just played reasonably well against)? Until the Bombers win some games and regularly put out strongly competitive efforts; we are going to be underdogs weekly. So don't feel you need to write articles that say "The 0-2 Bombers will have to go back to Guelph to play what will be heavily-favoured Tiger Cats; a place they lost 52-0." When we're only 0-1 at present. When you're coming off a horrendous season and start the year 0-1, of course every game on the schedule looks like an uphill battle right now. But that's why you have the offseason and training camp... to effect some change, and possibly improve your roster. My humble suggestion for Wiecek and the Freep: Take the pen out of his hand for a month, and send him to every football game you can in 30 days. Of course, this won't happen because the paper likely can't afford to, and secondly, his ego wouldn't allow him to accept that he doesn't know anything about the game. But to actually get some sort of football analysis out of him (even if trolling) instead of this drivel, would be an improvement.
  5. I was never a huge Greg Carr fan... he was good as a scrap-heap addition when our WR cupboard was bare. But we've evolved at WR since then... he's not going to replace Edwards or Matthews at IMP WR/SB, and IMHO, Denmark's skill trumps his size; even at the same price, forget paying Carr more (assuming his $130k/yr tops whatever we pay Denmark). For the Bombers at this moment, Carr is a 46-man WR at best. That's if he can beat out a healthy Isaac Anderson and Doug Pierce.
  6. I really thought the offense Crowton called was very good for getting receivers open in space against MTL's zone... we took advantage of that when we were down, but if you ask me, our inability to move the chains after we took the lead was due solely to execution. Our SB's were open over the middle all 2nd half.
  7. Thank you on the locking onto receivers. I was losing my **** in the stands the entire 3rd and 4th, after we took the lead... Watson/Etienne for the most part finished every play clapping their hands in frustration because they were wide open; often with open field ahead of them. Buck was staring down his receivers that entire time, and by the time they got the ball, there were 2 MTL defenders closing. The phantom 40 yd PI call, and blown PI on the Bombers didn't help matters, but Buck GAVE that game away by locking into receivers and not reading coverage.
  8. Burke likes his DB's, and frankly they'd likely be better ST guys than the linemen. You don't need 7 OL's dressing... My best guess for the 4-man is Douglas, Kowalczuk, Sherman, and either Matthews or Woodson, if Matthews doesn't suit up. Although that's a lot of NI's on the 4-man... maybe Anderson goes on if Matthews goes.
  9. RB's are often referred to in the NFL as the most replaceable position on the football field. A good offensive line can open up holes for the RB and protect the QB, and the dropoff between good and poor linemen is greater than the dropoff between good and poor RB's. Linemen play a much larger role in what in the CFL has always been a passing league. So in a league where you must field 7 starting Canadians, and in most cases American players are superior players to Canadians... why not at the most replaceable position?
  10. LOL... do you really think playing half the season with Turnstile Taormina was the Bombers' preference? Of course they'd rather have had their starter Douglas in there. Hefney could easily have ended the SAM debacle by doing exactly what he's doing in Cowtown... what the coaches ask. Non issue if he does that. Do you really think Labbe starting at MIKE was the Bombers' plan? Stop gap until Muamba was ready. Even the mildest of Bomber fans could see that. And by the way... "found" quality players who made an impact last year: Chris Matthews, Alex Hall, Chad Simpson, Justin Sorenson, Will Ford. I'll stop now, my point is made.
  11. Look at all those Argo jerseys in the crowd... real fans there...
  12. Maybe Dr. Snuggles will do it if we stroke his ego and invite him to troll the new site...
  13. To be fair, it is HAMILTON's first team defence... that's like most teams' 2nd team D. The real interesting question mark for me is Morley and Swiston both not playing in Hamilton, but Sorenson is. Suggests to me that either one of Morley and Swiston is injured, or both have made the team. If that's the case... is it possible that Morley has won the starting C job, and and Swiston has won the RG?
