  1. Im sure Walter's has an internal limit to what he will pay Heenan. Everyone has the same cap but if Walters had cleared more 2015 cap space with his 2014 signings, he might be in a better position than some teams to "overpay". He said he will spend right to the cap so he clearly intends to be active in free agency. If Heenan is simply creating a value for himself, whats to say the Bombers dont offer $270, the Riders offer $280 and the Bombers counter with $290? Eventually someone has to blink. The question is who has the most cap space to spend.
  2. I wouldnt defend calling Reimer's mom, but the question had merit. It might seem stupid because no player is going to admit to being uncoachable but in the wake of the firing, it was a topic for discussion. When a coach is fired, many players admit to taking fault and feeling awful. I thought Kessel's reaction was telling in that he immediately deflected blame. Ron Wilson was right, when you change coaches 2 or 3 times with the same players, who's fault is it?
  3. Lawless certainly seems confident that Walters will be strongly going after Heenan. Believes the starting offer will be at least $250,000
  4. Lawless seems to think Walters will back a brinks truck up to Heenan and offer him $250,000 as an opening offer. What would that do for us moving forward
  5. Newman was the guy I was thinking of. Was he not expected to start? Where does he fit into this line up thus far?
  6. Kessel was interviewed and asked if he thought he was a difficult player to coach. Sort of a difficult question to answer but he came off pretty bad in my opinion. Seemed childish, calling the reporter an idiot. Ron Wilson's comments seem to indicate the same, that Phil is emotional and unreliable. Good times in TO.
  7. Kessel is a good player but who didnt think the Leafs were nuts to give Phaneuf the contract they did?
  8. This has been cancelled. Too bad though not surprised. As much fun as it could be, the best seat in the house to watch a game is my living room.
  9. So what does the secondary look like next season? Didnt we have a starter go down to an injury in pre-season? Or am I crazy?
  10. I have a pro-con bias too but it didnt matter who was in power. The Jets thing wasnt an NDP issue and neither was the Stadium. In the PC's were in power, no one was losing a chance to bring back the NHL and no one was letting the Bombers fold.
  11. Call me crazy but I think attendance might be helped somewhat but moving the season up a couple of weeks. I know they are concerned about a long NHL Playoffs. But watching football live in June sounds a lot better than late October.
  12. I like the Sun but this is a terrible story. I thought the loan was interest free in the first place. But I guess not. Also, who cares? This isnt a matter of costs being hidden. We know what it costs. yes it's a lot. So who cares? If IGF had not been built and CIS was condemned, forcing the government to pay tens of millions to repair it, the story would be why we wasted $50 million on a condemned facility instead of spending $200 million on a facility that would serve manitobans for generations. Its just bating people to angrily pay to read a stupid article. Same with the nonsense over the Jets. So what, we give the Jets a few million a year. Big deal. Funny how no one makes a big deal about how the tax contribution on MTSC was paid back and paid back early. its all bad news bullshit all the time. Bombers make a significant payment and its bad news. blah blah blah, who cares.
  13. Its not like Enstrom and Buff are on the downside of their career. Bogo is easier to trade than Enstrom and gets you a bigger return. Enstrom is the more consistent D man right now but doesnt get the same love as Bogo. Enstrom also serves a stronger need for the Jets right now than Bogo does. All things being equal, sure, keep him. But when Buff talks contract next season, he will want to be play D and will be a top gour RHD. So which of Bogo or Trouba will be 5-6?
  14. Carlyle and the Jets seem to just miss each other. He'd be a great addition to our coaching staff but he will get a HC job and that isnt available in Winnipeg nor will it be for some time.
  15. 0% chance that would be enough. McDavid is going to be a franchise player. You don't hand those guys over for a 2nd liner and a 10-20 pick. The last time a "generational" prospect was traded was LIndros. Philly had to give up a tonne (Peter Forsberg, Steve Duschene, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Philly’s first-round pick in 1993 and 1994, and $15 million in cash) to get him. McDavid is the at the level Lindros was coming out of Junior and will also demand a huge return. That was a huge over payment for Lindros and would never happen today. But your point is certainly one I can agree with. A team making a move for 1st over-all would have to either be very very deep or be a team looking to rebuild/reload with enough talent to make it worth the Oilers' while to do so. McDavid is good enough and the Oilers young enough that it wouldnt make much sense to get help now for a player that is going to come in and play right away anyway. I think Winnipeg and Edmonton could be trade partners though as they need D and we have an abundance of it. We also have goaltending prospects though they need help right now. Im not anti-Pavs so I could see the Oilers having interest but I dont think the Jets would trade Pavs anyway, even if Hutch becomes the starter.
  16. It is not irrelevant. That's sort of like saying we should trade Pavs because Budaj can be the veteran back up. Which would you be more comfortable with in a Playoff situation? Bogo played the LHD last season and was not very good. I dont disagree that those guys can play better LHD then Pardy or Clitty but there's a reason most D-men play a specific side and why most teams target specific side-playing D-men. And if a player excells on his off-side, thats generally something focused on as a positive. Ovechkin sure can play either wing, right? If players were interchangeable it wouldnt matter. In the short term, maybe. But for the sake of the future, the decisions the Jets have to make is, do they want Buff long term. Because next season they will have to resign him (or this summer if they want to be really pro-active). Playing like he is, Buff could go to free agency and have 20+ teams make him a career offer. Winnipeg can offer him the one extra year but will they offer him an eight year deal. This really becomes a great discussion about what would you offer Buff if you were negotiating with him this summer?
  17. Not watching live. How's hutch doing.
  18. Bogo goes before Toby and rightfully so. I just don't think the Jets will allocate the salary to that D when buff and trouba need contracts.
  19. Im sure Ron loves his job. But if I was TSN I would have offered Ron hosting duties across all their regional games as well as panel hosting and basically be their face and voice of whatever hockey they have.
  20. Not only that but big time NHL media types would credit capgeek for their information. You are right, the NHL *should* have this set up.
  21. I was thinking about this too as we discussed the D in the other thread. I doubt there is any change this season but in the off-season maybe. If Buff plays D moving forward, and lets be clear - the way he played D this season its a no-brainer he stays there, then you have: Buff Bogo Enstrom Trouba As your top four D. You have Chiarot, Stuart, Harrison, Clitty, Postma and Morrissey (next season) all under contract next year. Im too lazy to do comparables but do most NHL teams allocate that much money to their top four D, taking into account a new contract for Buff and Trouba? Thats also three RHD in the top four. Chiarot cant be sent down due to waivers. So he's staying. For the bulk of the season they can manage it by waiving Pardy and figuring out something with Harrison, Clitty, Postma. They might try to trade or waive Harrison and send him down too. Assuming your top six next season is: Buff Bogo Trouba Enstrom Stuart Chiarot Thats a great top six. But there is room to move one of them for forward help. Makes sense to move a RHD and makes sense to move someone that will get you something in return. Hence, Bogo.
  22. Does the year on the contract really matter? The only time that comes into play is if you want to have a cheap contract on a cup team so you can hire a few rented guns. That's not the situation the Oilers find themselves in. Sending him down before the team plays 39 games doesn't burn a year towards him becoming a UFA, so he is still an RFA for that extra season which will be more important in the long run. I don't buy that his development has been ruined, that kid has a good head on his shoulders and hasn't been as bad as the hype says. A lot of that is simply "herr derr Oilers suck!" Here's the things people don't take into account, He's played for Germany at the WJCs twice already, is 5 games there going to do anything for his development? Not bloody likely. The other aspect is he didn't want to go back to Prince Albert and the Oilers didn't want him to go back there either cause Prince Albert sucks. Since Kelowna is going to pick up his rights though, that's a better situation to send a guy to in the WHL, in theory get a nice long playoff run there and that's actual good development as opposed to Prince Alberta who basically did whatever Draisailt and Morrisey carried them to in the past. People like to pile on Edmonton and some of it is deserved, but they really turn the stupid up to 11 when they do it. Do you all know that since McTavish stepped aside and let Nelson coach that the team is 2-0-2? Hell even just since they fired Eakins they're something like 3-4-4 which might not be anything to brag about but it's a damned sight better than they were with Eakins behind the bench. Im sure he's not "ruined" but this is pretty easy stuff that Oilers management bungled. Regardless of how bad his junior team is, I cant be convinced that being a dominant player in Junior would be better than struggling with the Oilers. Get the 9 games for the experience and send him back if he isnt good enough. This is more an issue of not being able to assign junior aged players to the AHL but this is the way it is and the Oilers screwed it up. Again, from a management perspective, they cost themselves a few bucks later by blowing a year on his deal. Everyone saw that he wasnt ready. And we know first hand what happens when a team rushes its prospects because they are too cheap or stupid to sign NHL calibre players. It doesnt impact Free Agency but it does cost them money. That doesnt impact us as fans but is another lolOilers moment and an example of mis management. I would suspect that after half a season with the Oilers, getting to play at a high level in a tournament like the WJC would have been good for him. It certainly couldnt have hurt. Maybe it didnt mean anything to him but usually international play means a lot so for the Oilers to deny Germany's request for him and then send him down a few days later is a) classless an example of mis management if they didnt know they were going to send him down when they denied Germany's request. In the big picture, it doesnt mean anything to us, but the big story in Edmonton is how poorly they have been managed.
  23. Beyak can be a homer when he calls regional games. No problem with that at all. National broadcasts should be more balanced.
  24. The U.S. said today it was still North Korea and the private firms saying otherwise are not privy to their Intel. But there are many anti government people that love their enemies, like idiots such as rodman and penn. The Sony employee angle I read was that she might have helped NK target specific servers.
