I doubt the protestors in Vancouver have completely forgot about covid
as for summer... Stadiums at half capacity would probably work - with a social distancing urinals - society still too scared to go for that

At IGF, its very difficult to socially distance oneself.  Crammed concourses.  Half full or maybe 10,000 could potentially work.  I think they'd have to space out concessions.  Or you allow people to bring their own snacks and keep concessions closed.  I think there is the potential for CFL to launch in September with crowds.  Maybe an outside chance.

Anybody wondering why there are 11 pages about "riots" (not protests) and yet no one (including me) saw fit to start a thread about police murdering George Floyd?

What does it say about us that we find one subject so much more noteworthy than the other?

I put the video in the video thread (or news thread I Can’t remember) when it happened.   Sadly I figured it was just another example of police violence.  I suspect rich started a thread so as not to muddy the US politics thread

The first video is a bit boring for the first 2 minutes but gets really interesting as it goes on.  It's a really unbias interesting take on Donald Trump the person.  I really recommend watching it as Penn is a really good dude.

The President DOES NOT make the call of going into the bunker...the Secret Service does.

The secret service will force him into the bunker if need be but I suspect he’s able to choose to go in if he wants.  And he is a known coward.

Unfortunately people just become numb to it because it is the norm.   After the 100th time of him doing something that no previous President would ever do... it just becomes "Typical Donald".

It’s why I’m legitimately concerned we’re heading to a nazi like outcome. I hope that’s crazy talk.  If he wins....I think it’s over.

  6. As if we need more examples.  Trumps remarks were a disgrace. And him orchestrating a photo op as an excuse to wave his little orange **** around, attacking protesters was not only unconstitutional it was unconscionable

That's racist and you shouldn't generalize everyone.   Shame on you.

As I said before... vocal minority.

Just because you have racist guilt don't lump everyone else in.

Sorry Brandon. Your remark is awful. I don’t feel guilt. I feel disparity and anger at how an entire group of my fellow humans have been treated for the entire history of the US.

You should feel the same way and I feel sad for you if you don’t.

  8. I recommend the Athletic, here's a snippet from their Declan story:

    Quote

Chisholm is an elite skater and Petes head coach Rob Wilson believes he’s ready for the pro game.

“The one thing he has, over a lot of players, is that he’s got outstanding feet and those feet are at the NHL level,” Wilson said in a telephone interview. “He’s fortunate. He’s been blessed with great feet but he has worked on it. … There was great improvement in every part of his game.”

Wilson said Chisholm averaged between 20 and 25 minutes of ice time per game and wasn’t used only in an offensive role. He had the responsibility of playing in a shutdown capacity against the other team’s best players, showing major improvement during individual battles and became much better at using his stick effectively while defending.

  9. I finally subbed to the Athletic and I really enjoy it, especially with little sports coverage going.  Some fun Jets articles.

Murat had an article out comparing ten of the Jets prospects with current NHL'ers to try to predict what they might become and had Declan compared to Devon Toews and Vince Dunn.  He wrote:

On one hand, you’d expect a 20-year-old OHL veteran to be able to produce. Declan Chisholm took that to the next level in 2019-20, scoring 69 points in 59 games and finishing third in scoring among OHL defencemen.

Chisholm’s strengths are in transition, where his high-end speed and ability to move the puck up the ice help make him an excellent transporter. Once in the offensive zone, Chisholm’s offence comes from putting the puck in the hands of Peterborough’s top scorers, such as Nick Robertson. He doesn’t have a big shot from the point, nor does his 6-1, 193-pound frame push people around in the defensive zone.

I’d compare Chisholm to Devon Toews, who scored 28 points for the Islanders in his sophomore season, because of his success in the neutral zone.

Of course, the leap in league quality makes it a difficult comparison to make. Chisholm will need to maintain some of his offence and improve his defending to carve out an NHL career. Still, it seems as though there’s room in the big leagues for a player whose biggest strength is wheeling the puck up ice.

Kid is 6'1", 193lbs and shoots left.

  10. Obama could be the difference make this election.  Well, really he shouldnt be.  But he will be great at shoring up Biden's weak spots.  Biden is just the avatar for the moderates and lefts.  A surely one term President who will help bring people together and heal a nation before turning it over to younger more progressive leadership.

Its interesting that Obama swept to victory on a campaign of change and hope.  And you see him invoking the same things now.  The US is far more in need of change and hope than when Obama ran.

:meanwhile in Seattle.. watch the second video -- can anyone explain to me what that cop was trying to accomplish besides just being a violent clown? reminds me of a drunken jerk in a bar looking for a fight.

Nice to see the cops are being sensitive to being too aggressive in the wake of the Floyd death.  You just know the orders from above are "**** the protesters" when they should be "everyone has a camera, be patient, be fair, be conciliatory, err on the side of non-aggressive, non-punitive"

On Fox News, McEnany claims Trump hasn't delivered Oval Office address about Floyd because of Antifa
"A national Oval Office address is not going to stop Antifa,” McEnany says. “What’s going to stop Antifa is action"

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Monday blamed Antifa for President Donald Trump's refusal to give an Oval Office address to the nation in the wake of George Floyd's apparent killing by Minneapolis police.

They dont even pretend anymore.  When he praised the nazi's as very fine people they explained it away as him supporting the protestors too.  Now they dont even pretend.  Not a word about white supremacists.  He needs to not only lose the election, but lose badly.

Im beginning to get a bad feeling.  They wont allow it.  It's going to be stolen and probably overtly so.

Trump tells mayors and governors ‘most of you are weak’ during teleconference ‘rant’ about unrest: ‘You have to dominate’

President Donald Trump scolded the nation’s mayors and governors for the unrest in the wake of several deaths of unarmed Black people by police and “wannabe police.”

Speaking on a conference call, Trump told the group, “the only time it’s successful is when you’re weak and most of you are weak.” He went on to tell the group that they must start arresting people or protesters will “run over you.”

“You have to dominate, if you don’t dominate you’re wasting your time. They’re going to run over you, you’re going to look like a bunch of jerks. You have to dominate,” Trump said.

He reportedly went on to call them “fools.”

(Trump has certainly mastered the art of diplomacy)

    What a POS

There has been and is discrimination against Canadian first nations, but I see no evidence that there have been the type of incidents where police have been killing and assaulting unarmed first nations people on the scale of what is happening in the US. I do not condone violence, by the police or others, but there comes a point where, if peaceful means of protest gain nothing and the killings and assaults go on, reactive violence is predictable and almost inevitable.

Violent protests are the result of peaceful protests not working.  No one is to blame for this but the people in power who have mistreated black people for the entirety of the US history.  Do you hear them now?

  15. Ive got to be honest, these morons using All Lives Matter are really aggravating me.  Saw someone I know (and like) was posting on FB about how Scott Hall (wrestler) deleted his account because he posted ALM and was attacked and this guy claims he uses it to mean we should all stick together but now he will be attacked for doing something nice.  WTF people.  It knowingly diminishes the cause, the protests and what black people are feeling. Stop it.  Because, no All Lives dont matter right now...thats the point.  Ugh.  An awful lot of white people are stupid, insensitive and suffer that "subtle" racism. Get off social media for an hour and reflect.

As Canadians we have a front row seat to the madness in the states.

So if the FBI/CIA tell Orange about social media posting inciting violence coming from Russia...what will he do?

    He'll reply "Yeah...I know."

He also did a 15 minute bit on Omega and clarifying that he never wanted to work with the Young Bucks and how all the old timers in AEW are destroying their legacies.  He basically said the Bucks made all the **** of him wanting to work with them up and called them marks.  He also realllllllllllly despises Omega a lot.

I listen because it's comedy to me.   When my roommate and I listened to you and Dirty **** or Wayne Stanton would *disagree* on air... we found it comical and very entertaining.

He wouldn't be a good addition to AEW he's way to old school...  I'd think Arn Anderson is enough of a veteran presence for them. I'm pretty sure they can find less annoying people to help managers and tag teams out instead of Cornette.

He’s lying about working with the bucks.  Which tells you he’s embarrassed he was caught.

He’d be good as a character but his days as a creative contributor were over a long time ago.   He actually never had any real success.  His promotion Smokey Mountain which he did constant race baiting angles went bankrupt. He was pretty much replaced in wwe by Russo.  He went to impact and did little of note and after threatening to kill Russo agreed to work with him because that’s what he does.  Went to ROH and over saw the worst creative and financial period.

Cornette is a great on screen character.  Other than that he’s a dud.
