Game 23 : Jets @ Caps
The Unknown Poster replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Yeah let's get rid of Buff and Ladd and promote who? Chiarot and Armia? Omg I can't wait, we will win SO MANY games. If you subscribe to letting them walk for nothing, that's the potential outcome. But you dont trade them for nothing. And you also free up a lot of money to be active in the off-season. Yes, trading them means, in all likelyhood, we tank this year. I'd rather get a #1 pick then a #14 pick. But Chevy has made a decision to let this go on and it gets to a point where even if they want to stay here, if it's March, why not wait four months.... This is exactly what happened with Frolik. Jets didnt want to lock in a 4 year deal during his RFA period, gambled and lost. There is no way Chevy can let Ladd and Buff go beyond the deadline without a contract and remain Jets. That's just remarkably ludicrous to even consider. -

I agree about coaching. But Maurice isnt going anywhere. So its sort of a moot point. -

If there is a 6X6 offer on the table for Ladd, it might come down to the deadline when Chevy tells Ladd take it or get traded...and then Ladd's agent has to look at his play this year and wonder how much it lowered the market. There is a sense UFA's are not going to get the big offers of yesteryear. Its one thing if Ladd knows for sure he will have a pick of at least ten teams for more money. But if even it's 2-3 teams for more money, it means he has to cross his fingers he wants to play in one of those cities. If he likes Winnipeg, if his family likes Winnipeg, then maybe he decides one in the hand is worth two in the bush. As for Buff, Chevy either thinks it will be the easiest negotiation of all time or the Jets have decided to move him at some point in the season. -
Cant believe anyone would even consider Tillman.

He mentioned at the 2014 draft that he had "ownership level" offers for someone. But that it didnt end up coming to fruition. -
From CNN: Turkey has repeatedly said it shot down the Russian warplane on Tuesday only after it ignored several warnings and entered Turkish airspace. Russia has contested the claim, and its rescued co-pilot Capt. Konstantin Murakhtin told state media that "there were no warnings -- not via the radio, not visually." Turkey's military has released audio it says proves its claim; Russia has yet to address the audio. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the Russian plane was attacked a kilometer inside Syrian territory, while Erdogan says it crashed in Turkey, injuring two people. Who believes Russia?

You don't have to make them happy, but you should at least aspire to do enough that they're interesting in watching.I'd argue that there is no one in the WWE right now that could accomplish that. At least people hate Sheamus and want to see him lose the belt. Can you say that about Owens? He is way too likeable as a heel.EC3 nails it here: http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/646271-ec3-explains-why-hes-a-successful-heel-in-tna-and-why-heels-nowadays-arent-getting-the-heat-they-should I'd say yes and no. Really good heels in the role of guys the fans want to see get theirs in the end arent usually tippy top guys. The tippy top guys always end up as faces because fans respect them. Ric Flair, Steve Austin, Rocky, nWo, Brock Lesnar etc. Seth is a good example of a guy that got heel heat and still did all the tremendous athletic moves. But he also got respectful recognition from the crowd but he was a very good heel. He was just booked poorly as Hunter's lackey who never won. If you think of heels that didnt get cheers or werent prone to turning face, they arent really iconic guys so much. Sheamus is one for sure. Yokozuna. Randy Savage was a great heel but he was always on the verge of turning face. It was also a bit different back then with the crowd being less "wise". Rick Rude was a tremendous heel... Jake Roberts was taken out of a program with Hogan because he was getting cheered. And that was the 80's. Most of Hogan's heel opponents in the 80's were just big guys with limited top guy appeal. If a guy is talented and has charisma, he's going to be respected and once respected, it's a short jump to being a face. WWE is a total mess right now. So no one guy is going to change things. No one guy is going to make one million people suddenly watch the product. So the next best thing is doing something interesting, like Mike said. Owens, Ambrose, Roman as a heel...those are interesting stories. But like I said, WWE has a plan and that plan is to burn the place to the ground if thats what it takes to crown Roman the new John Cena. Sheamus was chosen because he's a heel no one likes that wont get cheered against Roman and because he's muscular and is a gym buddy of Hunter's, he's credible in the eyes of the family. -

Thats a good point. I dont want to be critical of Chevy because I think he's done a generally good job. But he seems to let things drag out and perhaps the feeling from management is "the players are millionaire professionals and they can self-motivate and they can handle their jobs" but the reality is, they are still human. There isnt a single person alive who thinks its a good idea for Ladd's contract situation to drag on. And while you cant rush a trade like Hamonic, it could certainly hang over player's heads. I believe it was Wheeler who commented about contract talks dragging that as a player you want to know you're wanted and that your contribution is appreciated. Chevy made a blockbuster deal in, what, a week? Because he had to. And yeah because he had a willing partner. But man...letting this drag on. Maybe it's ownership's vision...that its perfectly fine for players to walk if they wont accept our terms and we replace them with others. But that HAS to have an impact on your players. What is Chevy's end game here? Hasnt even talked to Buff's agents. Doesnt even have an idea what Buff wants. If you've made the decision to part ways, then part ways already. How do you figure he made that deal in a week? He wanted to trade Kane for more than 2 years. I could be wrong and feel free to correct me, but Kane asked for a trade for three years (or whatever it was) and wasnt traded. The incident with Buff happened on Feb 3rd and he was traded on Feb 11th. So I suppose the Jets had been putting together that deal with the Sabres for two years but it sure seemed more likely that Chevy's hands were forced and he made a deal pretty damn fast. And a good deal at that. -

A few quick hits: TNA cancelled their big India tour. They are calling it a postponment and claim its due to "security reasons". This is a big deal because it was being touted as the tour that would keep them afloat and they have major TV partners in India. Could be the final death rattle. Its also awful for the talent that have kept the faith with TNA as this would have been a solid payday right before Christmas. Kurt Angle officially announced his "retirement" but seems to frame it more as a TNA retirement. He had previously said he was taking 2016 off as his contract expires shortly and he desperately wants to go back to WWE. WWE wants nothing of him (or specifically Vince doesnt) over fears that Angle's health issues are too be a risk because if something happened to him, he's far too big a name in the sports world and the negative press would be overwhelming. Shame though because he's a very special talent and he deserves a last WWE run plus all the WWE bells & whistles (HOF, legends deal etc). As if the Reid Flair "death" segment wasnt bad enough, WWE released a statement essentially blaming Charlotte but supposedly this is 100% untrue and that it was scripted and presented to Charlotte who had no choice but to accept it. And in fact, she miffed on several lines because she was so upset while delivering the promo. Ric Flair even said he was reluctant to complain for fear it would impact his daughter. Think about that. Ric Flair, the greatest of all time, who's best friend is Hunter, is afraid that they'd punish his daughter if he complained. Unreal. He also said he was just on tour with WWE and that everyone is walking on egg shells. Randy Orton's shoulder injury was more serious than they thought. He also needs neck surgery which *might* end up as fusion surgery but they are hoping not. He's done for months and if its fusion, its over a year if at all. WWE signed CMLL star La Sombra who is very talented and used to date local girl-made-good Sarah Stock. There is talk they might have him work without a mask because even though WWE is desperate for a Latino star, they continue to have no clue what appears to a Latino audience. They see La Sombra and say "he's good looking, why hide his face". TNA has a new TV deal with POP TV which I never heard but apparently was the TV Guide channel. Available in more homes then their last deal (Destination America) but with far less viewership. Its also not readily available in HD. And reports are TNA is not being paid for the deal. Its called a "multi-year" deal but so was Destination America and they cancelled TNA within six months. TNA is doing the longest death spiral in wrestling history. TNA has tried to get Goldberg. Which wont happen unless three things occur: 1) Goldberg needs the money 2) Goldberg desperately wants his son to see him wrestle (he's said this is a motivation in wanting one last match) 3) TNA offers him ludicrous money. Goldberg has reached out to WWE several times but they arent interested at the price he wants and they dont like him since he's never been a guy who wants a WM moment for the moment. He wants it for the money. The fact WWE has nothing special for this year's WM in the massive Cowboys Stadium might change their minds but I doubt it. Hunter gave a recent interview positive on Hulk Hogan. He made a silly remark about how Hogan was brought down because people like to see top stars fail (shows the mindset of WWE in how the common person reacts to anything) which is untrue. But it also shows that WWE intends to bring him back in the fold when they feel the blow back will be minimal. -
I have no trouble believing the Russian Jet ignored warnings. They have a habit of pushing the line with other nations' airspace. And if Im recalling correctly, they have done things like fly too close to other jets, buzz naval ships etc. They seemed to like pushing the bounds and thinking no one would fire at the Russians. Well someone did and it put the pilots in a tragic situation. No excuse for rebels to murder the pilots. But Putin likely has little else to blame but the arrogance of his own airforce. Perhaps they will stop thumbing their nose at other nations as a result of this. On the other hand, if they decide to reign vengeance down upon Turkey or the rebels (and I assume they will use this as an excuse to fight US-backed rebels), I guess they can. And when Turkey and/or the rebels call in for help from their American allies, what happens then? Putin isnt likely to start World War III, I dont think. But he will leverage his threats to get a bigger piece of the world pie. Then again, Im just speculating.

Yeah....tough to do that deal though. D was a source of strength for the Jets but its sort of like everything else, they have some bodies but mostly lower pairing-level guys. We'd be gutted on the LHD side if Toby was traded without a top pairing coming back. Realistically, the Jets might just be going through something where a number of guys are under performing and if we ride it out, they should be better. But Im curious as to why that is happening. Guys go through slumps but there seems to be an issue with this team. Coaching always gets looked at but its moot here because Maurice wont take any blame right now. Is it the contract scenario with Ladd (and to a lesser extent Buff)? Is it just the youth? Is it that the Jets are a "good" team but playing in this division makes them look worse than they are?

Okay I take back "blow up". I meant to convey an idea that there is little point to resigning Ladd and buff long term and trading them for picks and prospects was acceptable. But Scheif, to me, is a top six guy. Very responsible defensively. Offensive upside. Always generating chances. -

Wheeler can be apart of the rebuild. Same with little. What I mean is this attempt to have two "cores" and try to win now and for the future. Maybe just go with the future. Not ten years from now. But five. And some guys don't need to be around if we looking at 4-5 more years. Regardless of terminology if this middling team and slow sink continues there is no reason to keep Ladd and buff. And lawless reported today that there has been zero discussion with buff. Jets have no idea what buff wants to stay. The fact they havent even had that conversation should indicate their desire on buff. -

I'm beginning to think this will be the blow up year. Out of the playoffs by February and start selling off UFA's and perhaps other assets. Tried the "reload". Maybe time for the full rebuild. -
@TheWestBlock: Canada's finite military resources mean making a choice between bombing and training, says Trudeau https://t.co/gCZx8xkSor#cdnpoli @jkenney: This is blatantly, obviously untrue. Our Forces have been engaged in both training & air strikes vs ISIL for a year. https://t.co/SalPNH2sfA

This can't be true. People kept saying one had no effect on the other. "Prime Minister Justin Trudeau conceded his government altered its plans to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees to accommodate the changed perceptions about risk after the terrorist attacks in Paris two weeks ago."

From Observer: "As of the morning of the Survivor Series, they were still debating endings until at some point in the afternoon, Vince settled on Sheamus cashing it in rather than the original plan of the show being the coronation of Reigns as champion, which is still the long-term goal." -

Apparently the idea of turning Roman was not even seriously considered by WWE. It's one thing to reason your way out of a decision but to not even give it due consideration shows just how singularly focused they are on maintaining the status quo and seeing their plan to its fruition. -
Ladd for Johansen.

To be honest Owens would have been a fine choice. He's over. He's respected. He has good matches. But again, he would get cheered against Roman. WWE has more writers than ever and yet fewer stories than ever. Go figure. -

Yeah but it's not really about making people happy so much as telling interesting stories. Putting a belt on a bad guy shouldn't make fans happy but they should be interested in watching hat bad guy lose Sheamus isn't a write off. He is over to a degree. But I don't think a majority of people tune in to watch him get his comeuppance. I guarantee WWE knows he was a weak choice. It everyone else hurts their plan to elevate Roman. The only idea that elevates Roman is turning Roman heel and they are desperate to create a new John Cena tjat they forget how Cena and other generational stars were created. WWE isn't one good decision away from improving. They've lost something like 30% of their audience. They need a stark shift akin to the change in 97 when everything changed. They need a new producer, fresh production, different announcing concept, a major shift in how they view creativity and the good sense that Hunter can't be the central character. You can break the WWE down by era. They switch things up and change every "era". This era is limping to a slow death. But an aged Vince too afraid to move out of this corporate comfort zone won't change.
