  2. . @CPC_HQ @RonaAmbrose has more supporters than detractors in all regions & among Liberal, left & centrist voters
  3. The idea of it being an attack on his wife and all women, seems to be an invention of Liberal defenders trying to frame the narrative as something sinister, hoping people will back away from it. Aside from the occasional moron online, the general unease with this arrangement has nothing to do with the PM's wife. I do, however, find it amusing that the defenders' per-emptive response to the criticism they invented is that she's far too busy being the PM's wife to be a stay at home mom. That's certainly her right and no one should begrudge her that, but it might not play well with many Canadians who either do choose to have one parent stay home or those that cant afford it and yet somehow manage. I dont mind "gate". Its both amusing and indicative of it as a scandal of the subject's own creation which he's trying to avoid accepting responsibility. Its also an easy hashtag.
  4. CNN Washington (CNN)President Barack Obama's former top military intelligence official said Tuesday that the White House ignored reports prefacing the rise of ISIS in 2011 and 2012 because they did not fit its re-election "narrative." "I think that they did not meet a narrative the White House needed. And I'll be very candid with you, they just didn't," retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency Flynn, who has been critical of both Obama's and former President George W. Bush's handling of the Iraq War and involvement in the Middle East, said that Obama was served poorly by a small circle of advisers who were worried about his re-election prospects at the time. The story they needed to tell, he said, was that pulling troops from Iraq would not leave the region vulnerable to the rise of a radical Islamic group like ISIS. "I think the narrative was that al Qaeda was on the run, and (Osama) bin Laden was dead. ... They're dead and these guys are, we've beaten them," Flynn said -- but the problem was that no matter how many terrorist leaders they killed, they "continue to just multiply." Obama has been criticized by opponents for referring to ISIS as the "JV squad" and apparently underestimating the group's threat. The Pentagon's inspector general is investigating complaints that top intelligence officials manipulated reports to make the threat of ISIS look minimal. Flynn also warned that an attack like the one conducted in Paris was likely at some point in the U.S. "I really do believe it's a matter of time, I believe, there's going to be where our luck is going to run out and they're are going to be able to achieve something along the lines of what we saw in Paris," Flynn said. Flynn told the German news outlet Der Spiegel on Sunday that removing Saddam Hussein in Iraq and Moammar Gadhafi in Libya destabilized the region. "It was huge error. As brutal as Saddam Hussein was, it was a mistake to just eliminate him. The same is true for Moammar Gadhafi and for Libya, which is now a failed state. The historic lesson is that it was a strategic failure to go into Iraq. History will not be and should not be kind with that decision," Flynn said. The answer to ISIS, Flynn told Tapper, should be the creation of an "Arab NATO" organized among U.S. allies in the region, with a parceling of duties to take out ISIS. "I do believe that there has to be some type of Arab NATO-like structure formed, so there has to be a recognition that the Arab community in that particular region ... that gets after this problem," Flynn said, adding that the U.S. would have to lead the group with support from Russia and Europe.
  5. Sometimes people look at todays cap and then add the full salary of new deals. In other words, adding $12 million. But ofcourse you must include their current pay in that. So it's more like $4 million. I dont think we'd be hamstrung. And even if we were, you can make trades. But we know the Jets have projections going out for years on the budget in general and players specifically (Chipman confirmed this in an interview a few weeks back). So the Jets know what they want to do and considering there has been little to no discussion with Buff's people and the speculation that he was offered for Hamonic, I'd say they've decided to move away from Buff. If the speculation on the Ladd deal is true (6X6 on the table), it would indicate they want to keep Ladd but wont break the bank. I had read that Ladd asked for $6.5. So if thats true, they arent that far apart. And if anything, Ladd hasnt done himself any favours with his play this season. Ofcourse, that doesnt preclude a team in Free Agency over-paying but the trend seems to be going the opposite direction. No one cane make Ladd & Buff sign with the Jets and no one can make the Jets sign a bad deal. The one thing the Jets control is where those two players are at the deadline, either here or somewhere else. They *must* exercise their control and either force them into deals the team can live with or trade them. That's the only outcome that makes sense. If Chevy lets them go to Free Agency, its a blunder of epic proportions. If the idea was to let them go for nothing and consider the salary savings to be a win, then trade them for no salary (picks, prospects) and you've still saved all the salary while bringing in useful assets.
  6. A few comments from people in the twitterverse I'm sorry, but Nannygate is a creation of Canada's right wing media. If he was paying for childcare with his salary, still our money. "What is understood by many women is that this is in part a judgment on Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau" Hey @lraitt It's not like they blew up a town and killed 49 people because of govt deregulation or anything... Funny how Liberals think the whole #nannygate is stupid, yet thought #wafergate and #handshakegate were legitimate issues. #cdnpoli Months ago Trudeau said taxpayers shouldn't pay for wealthy families like his - what changed? robertsopuck.ca/news-riding/so… #cdnpoli #nannygate Nothing like a manufactured scandal like #nannygate to bring out the sexism and lowest common denominator thinkers among us #cdnpoli
  7. Chatelaine response: But as this week’s ginned-up outrage over “nannygate” reminds us, the real babies in the nation’s capital are Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien Trudeau, who have the nerve to expect supervision, regular snacks, a consistent bath and bed time and the odd diaper change while their parents are at work. And the trio’s parents are busier than most of us these days, with their father running a country and their mother doing the soft-diplomacy work demanded of the spouse of a head of state. The children have two occasional nannies, whose salaries, it was just reported, come out of the general housekeeping budget allotted to the prime minister’s family. This has led to varying degrees of outrage across social media and in the press. There’s the explicit criticism of the prime minister’s hypocrisy, since during the campaign he spoke out against Conservative tax and benefits policies that favoured wealthier families (like his) over poor ones. And then there’s the veiled critique of Gregoire-Trudeau’s approach to mothering. Let’s take the hypocrisy argument first. That would carry more weight if the uproar were also about all the other expenses associated with running an official residence. The prime minister is not expected to pay for the running of this rarified household. We citizens and taxpayers cover that: We pay for the cooks and cleaners and snow shovelers and gardeners and drivers and security guards. Yet none of these salaries has caused a fuss. Only someone unaware of the effort and work involved in raising kids would consider the care of the prime minister’s children an “unessential” household expense. Are the people who watch the Trudeau children less necessary than the people who maintain the family’s car? The Trudeaus aren’t the first family to pay for child care from the household budget: Brian Mulroney had a nanny (though, perhaps to avoid similar criticism, he called her a maid). But if there are questions about the nannies’ salaries, maybe we could start with why their fees are so low. At $15 to $20 an hour during the day — and $11 to $13 an hour at night — for official prime ministerial babysitting, Canadian taxpayers are getting off cheap. What’s been unsaid in the criticism (but is nonetheless understood by many women) is that this is in part a judgment on Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau — a mother who, like most mothers, gets criticized when she is seen as not taking care of her kids properly, especially since being the prime minister’s spouse isn’t considered a real job. ***Bolded is my favourite part. The criticism is "unsaid" but lets make it part of the story. Also, the scandal shouldnt be that tax payers foot the bill, but that we dont pay the nannies more. Hilarious.
  8. Worse still he was paying and then quietly slipped these two under taxpayers. So he knew. Question is what was he thinking? Sense of entitlement? Ridiculous.
  9. Wow. Didn't take long for him for him to saddle up to the trough. $11/hour? That seems low for child care. Anyone with kids able to weigh in? (I'm childless)
  10. Yes you lose.
  11. That makes no sense. You can't lose assets for nothing and pat yourself on the back for having extra money to spend. You can trade them for picks and cost yourself no money and still get assets in return.
  12. No kidding. Not to mention I wonder what other duties they perform. This is hilarious. Mr "we don't need $3000 for child care from the taxpayers" suddenly needs two nannies from the taxpayers. It wouldn't be such a story if he wasn't running on making the wealthy pay. I'm sure they could afford to have one parent stay home if need be. And look on he bright side of that, they can use income splitting to their advantage!
  13. Letting then walk for morning is a failure of management and Id expect Chevy's resignation.
  14. Agreed. Ofcourse. But it still rubs me the wrong way. Seems stereotypically elitist. Id feel that way of it was Harper. What does his wife do? Isn't she home from a recent birth? I wonder how the regular public manages to raise their children without two nannies.
  15. True, odd scene. I think the teaser showed people acting as some sort of vigilante group that worshiped Superman..maybe its them? Also, Luther was heard in the teaser saying "the red capes are coming". Perhaps Superman doesnt endorse the bowing but doesnt really care. He's clearly focused on Batman. Though I find it difficult to believe Batman gets caught by a glorified lynch mob. If its not a dream, I'd suggest its a trap to lure Superman in. Superman can definitely be angry. We've seen him angry in other incarnation. Its an intriguing thing actually...that a being so powerful must keep his anger under control at all times.
  16. If so, I dont like it. What happens to these two "assistant" positions when the PM has no minor children? Id like to know if Harper did the same thing. Its definitely not unheard of for a political leader to have to cover costs of his families day to day living. It also plays all wrong for a guy who campaigned on the wealthy being able to foot their own child care costs.
  17. Unless they armed. Apparently this is turning into a "thing" with some media and observers calling it "NannyGate". Trudeau criticized the child care rebate by saying his family qualified for $3000 it didnt need. And now he uses taxes to cover child care. I get that the two individuals serve other purposes in the residence (though I havent seen it detailed what they do) but any formal child care provided should be reimbursed by the family. Easy to pile on the guy but Ill just say this reflects on the idea he's a spoiled 1%'er. Why on earth would he think this was okay. Unless Im missing something here.....
  18. On it's face this doesn't sound appropriate. @CTVNews: PM's spokesperson defends Trudeau family's use of two taxpayer-funded nannies https://t.co/Pzz2ot4V2J#cdnpoli https://t.co/hGj60Ekuoh
  19. Pretty cool little scene. Seems a new trailer comes out Wednesday on Kimmel. My only concern with this movie (aside from the fact Man of Steel was awful), is that Ben Affleck is so identifiable as Ben Affleck that I worry it might take the viewer out of the film. I know he can be a great Batman though. So Im optimistic. Another movie I'm dying to see is The Revenant. Love films based on true stories and everything Leo does is fantastic. Could finally be his well-deserved Academy Award. Hearing that some advanced screeners were walking out of the theaters due to the gore. Which is great. I like having unadulterated images of violence, gore etc. Make me feel like Im there experiencing the reality of it all. Anyone see Creed yet? I like the Rocky series (except V) and this one has great reviews with people saying Stallone deserves a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nom.
  20. Regarding the placement of the stage, maybe Im in the minority but on TV at least, it looked way better than on the field. It actually looked like a full concert stage and the lighting and video screens really enhanced it. I'd be fine with that being the de facto set up for future Cups. Made a lot of sense and looked tremendous.
  21. Perhaps our Alberta friends can tell is if it's as bad as some reports or 100,000 out of work, EI claims up 100% etc @nationalpost: Alberta’s carbon plan ‘one more reason why the Western Canadian oilfield is going to die’ https://t.co/j036KvilOShttps://t.co/gFZbWm2Xkt @CBCNews: Rachel Notley says Alberta emissions plan will lead to 'drama free' debate on energy proje… https://t.co/8rmJV5r4aIhttps://t.co/EJjBsrTW4c @CBCAlerts: .@RachelNotley says Alberta's new plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions could end up benefiting oilsands industry: https://t.co/1xabhoMxZQ
  22. Why do I have this feeling the best improvement we'll make on D is Luke Schenn?
  23. Batman vs Superman sneak peak
  24. Ladd might be risking getting less cash and/term if he declines the Jets offer of 6X6 and honestly if that was really on the table Id want the jets to pull it based on Ladds plays this season. The no contact with Buff seems to indicate the Jets have made a decision to walk away from him.
  25. If Ladd gets more than 6X6 in free agency so be it. Less than that and he had more on the table here. Supposedly.
