  1. Another thing people watching these videos have to remember is, this is indy wrestling and a lot of this you'd never see on TV. The live crowd is way different. Watching it on your computer you might not appreciate it, but if you were there live you might think it was the greatest thing you'd ever seen. Here's another PWG clip, ACH vs Omega where they end up playing Steve Austin and the Rock. The best part is Omega's perfect impression of Rocky's over-selling the stunner There was also an Omega vs Bryan match from PWG where they did some long promo that I thought was pointless..until I got to the end the punchline was the john jacob jingleheimer schmidt children's song and it was awesome. I think it was Bryan that got the line "Hey! That's my name too!" and the crowd popped huge. Pretty funny. WWE sometimes does this stuff. If you watch the Owen Hart DVD they tell many stories of Owen goofing off in the ring. Hunter even did a spot where he took a shot and took five minutes to sell it, just wavered on his feet before taking the bump. You dont see that stuff on TV, but dark matches and house shows, it happens a lot. Wrestling is supposed to be fun, especially for the live crowd.
  2. Na i have no issues. Its creepy and sick IMO. Think a lil girl punching some dude in the nuts is all good? I dont... I guess i have issues. Yes. I see no issue with it. Ever been punched in the nuts by a little girl? Or boy for that matter? If you have siblings there was probably some nut punching in your life. Jokes aside, she's an "athlete" growing up in this world. If her parents had no problem with it and she had no problem with it, there is no problem. Again, I cant tell you how to feel but I find it very odd that anyone would be creeped out watching that, especially wrestling fans. Id never ever ever allow my daughter to do that... As for the sibling thing? I hardly think its the same. Yes kids boys n girls do it and think its funny. But they are kids. Id not ever allow my daughter to be put on TV and say go punch that guy in the nuts so all these people can be entertained. You know im not a big fan of wrestling but i will click to it once in awhile for shits n giggles but to me thats not funny... Its jus weird n creepy. That's a complete fair point (that you wouldnt allow your kid to do it). Some parents wont allow their kids to take Karate. Some wont allow them to play football. Some wont allow them to do wrestling. Its not a commentary on the quality of parenting when others do allow those things. The girl in the video was better trained than many adult wrestlers I've seen. The Hart kids (along with many wrestling familes, Von Erich's, Samoan's etc) were play wrestling probably before they could walk. And training properly as very young children. Wayne Gretzky learned to skate when he was three years old (if I recall the story). The difference here is that she performed in front of a large crowd rather than an empty training center. And she did well. And it was amusing and impressive. And it generated tons of online interest as well as local media coverage. I think there were two different youtube videos of the match that had over one million views each when the Winnipeg Sun contacted me about doing a story. I think our (PCW's) most watched youtube clip has about 16,000 views and wasnt anything as interesting as this match (it was three valet's playing Bikini Twister in the ring on one our shows). Sorry your missing my point. Id allow my kid do play and do any sports you mentioned. All of it is good for them. But id never allow anyone to say to my kid ... Go punch that dude in the nuts to entertain these people. Im not disagreeing with the kid being in a show like this. I do disagree with a 10 year old girl punching some guy in the nuts to entertain people. Thats just not right in my opinion. Would you or your wife allow that? Would you tell or have someone else tell your daughter to go punch a guy in the nuts so all these people laugh? If the kids trained proper and can handle doing the moves its all fine. Leave the punching to the nuts out of it. Its weird and not necessary IMO. In the correct context I would. If my daughter grew up in the business and understood the context. She wasnt fondling him. I suspect this particular girl has seen her share of nut shots since wrestling is the family business. It also depends on the kid. And their understanding of "acting" and whatnot. I wouldnt let her humiliate herself...which this girl did not do. Fans were very respectful and impressed. There was a lot of controversy over a movie Dakota Fanning did when she was 12 where she was raped. A lot of people said they'd never let their kid do it. Dakota's parents made a different decision. And Dakota seemed to be very intelligent and well adjusted and understood the art of acting. She seemed to get through the tough scene okay (we assume). If the nut shot wasnt in this match, you'd be otherwise fine with it? If so, I think we're pretty much on the same page. Yup id be fine with it. Your points are fair. I guess what im saying is if the idea is to show how good this little girl is and has been trained all her life a shot to the nuts is just not necessary to show her skills. You can show off her skill without that and also entertain the folks watching. If you were three feet tall and in a fight with a guy 6'1 and 200lbs, I bet you'd punch him in the nuts. ;-)
  3. So nobody here suggested that Muslim terrorists are the only ones killing people - and by extension are the only thing we need to be afraid of? Maybe to a critical thinker like you who has already examined the situation from a few angles I'm being simplistic or obtuse... but there are still a lot of people, neighbour's and coworkers, who are quick to blame foreigners for all our ills and ignore the fact we grow our own sickos right here at home. The point you're discussing is... radical Islam is scary? I agree. So are homophobes and prolifers and the 40% of American Christians who believe we are living in the end times. Ignore me if you don't like my contribution to his noise. You're missing the point. If some lone nutjob attacks a school and does so because they are just crazy or were bullied or worship satan or whatever, that's a terrible tragedy. And we could have a thread about that. But if someone came into that thread and said "forget the lone nut job that killed 10 children, what about those radical Islamic terrorists?" it would be equally off topic. No one has suggested there arent other tragedies, that there arent other killers. But this topic is about a specific act that looks like it was committed by two people who were motivated by radical Islam. So what does someone killing in the name of the Bible or Satan or their opposition to abortion or because they were abused or because they got fired from their job have to do with it? If someone runs into your work right now and says "there was just a terrorist attack", do you immediately think 'radical islam' or do you wonder what religion, ethnicity, motivation or whatever might be the culprit? Regardless of your answer, most people would immediately envision a perpetrator that looks like someone with the name Syed Rizwan Farook.
  4. wrong quote from earlier comment on this thread: There are lots of people that think this. Probably more than a few at this site. I wouldnt say that's a general statement that all Muslims are bad. I read it as a comment on these particular Muslims killing infidels because of what they think their prophet expects of them. There are troubling things from Muhammed. There are also troubling things in the Bible, though I think most people would say Jesus' teachings were more in line with peace, loving they neighbor etc. I dont know if this is correct but one perspective is that the majority of Christians believe their religion preaches peace and when some nutjob uses the Bible as an excuse to do terrible things, it's roundly seen as not in keeping with Christianity. But perhaps true devotees of Islam see it differently and that those Muslim's who interpret their religion as peaceful are the minority. Im no expert in religion.
  5. Good post Goalie. Interestingly, at the time when WWE was their most controversial and had more people claiming it was garbage, they did record ratings. In the current era where they are the most mainstream they've ever been, they draw record low ratings. When you try to be all things to all people, you often end up being nothing to anyone. In WWE's case, they are chasing corporate sponsorship dollars and all the extra revenue streams that come with being an accepted mainstream attraction (plus the "acceptance" of being an "entrainment" company), but when they were trying to just write the best TV they could for their audience, they were much more popular...

  8. I think its important to reiterate that no one (as far I know) is suggesting that all Muslim's are bad or that the religion per se is bad. One could argue all organized religion is a problem (Maher). That's not the point of these discussions though. I think most people that suggest radical Islam is a problem are not bigots. Speculating about motives is fair game as humans but it seems its politically incorrect to speculate when it's a potential Islamic motivation. And I find people are quick to defend Muslim's when for the most part Id like to think the discussion of radical Islam is not an attack on Muslims. You never want to have to pause to remind everyone you're not a racist or bigot. Its a sensitive subject, I know.

  10. This is one many Jets fans need to read over and over again: How much did he miss Michael Frolik? “I liked Mike Frolik right up to the point that he didn’t want to be a Winnipeg Jet and I can’t remember what he looks like now.”
  11. I know a lot of people that listened to KICK FM before the former President of Red River screwed it.
  12. You're being obtuse. Do you want to use the general definition of terrorism or just the current context of the word? You're arguing a point no one is discussing. Also the elder Boston bomber was a radicalized Muslim. Aldo a refugee but thats a different can of worms.
  13. It's creepy. That's the side of wrestling I never liked & never will. It's fine Omega is a great worker & the girl came out fwithout a bruise or scratch but a lot of things could have gone wrong in that match. Why put a 9 year old even in that situation where it is dangerous? Let's face it, it's uncomfortable for me to watch because of child abuse & little kids being hurt by adults in the real world where kids that age get beat up or killed by someone much older. I know it's fake but still I didn't like the match one bit. That wouldn't fly over here on TNA, ROH or WWE. I'd switch to another channel or turn off the set & probably never come back if those organizations tried it on tv. WWE has put kids in a ring. You cant use the argument "things could go wrong". Adults get hurt wrestling every day. Kids get hurt on the playground every day. There is a safer person she could have been in the ring with. You wouldnt mind her doing gymnastics where she could easily slip and get hurt. I think that's what you might be missing here. Wrestling is work and this was a showcase for great a worker Kenny is. The girl was never in any more danger than a million other things she could do. If the site of a man and a child wrestling creeps you out, I cant tell you your feelings are wrong - they are your feelings. But when I watched it, not for one second did I get some creepy "man-child" vibe. I saw two workers, one of whom was an expert and the other a trainee. There are many sports all over the world where kids have physical contact with their adult trainers. Nothing creepy about it at all.
  14. "Pretty sick" lol In what way? I assume you mean sick as in awesome. Anyone intimating some sexual impropriety have serious issues. This particular girl was younger than average but there are many example of young people working. Harry Smith and Tyson Kidd appeared in WWE at around the same age. Sick bastards.
  15. Not at all what I'm saying. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Someone on here suggested that 'we know what they mean' when we hear 'terrorism' ( that being radical islam) and that 'radical islam is doing all the killing'. Maybe if you're terrified of anyone from Arabic nations and you ignore all the other reprehensible acts of politically or religiously motivated violence that takes place literally every day in the US then you might have a point. I think when someone comes into this thread and refers to "terrorism" the context is pretty clear. If you go out on the street and ask random people what they think of when they hear "Terrorism" or "theres been a terrorist attack", they will say something akin to radical Islam. And this attack was not a lone nut. Was not a Christian. Investigators believe San Bernardino female attacker Tashfeen Malik pledged allegiance to ISIS leader, U.S. officials tell CNN. Watch CNNgo. Turns out the people jumping to conclusions seemed to jump to the right ones.
  16. I never read the books so the TV show is all new to me. I generally dislike fantasy. I hated Lord of the Rings (boooooooring) and Hobbit and that crap. But I do like GoT. Although the "kill all the favourite characters for shock value" thing has worn off. I assume (hope?) they pull a "Walking Dead & Glenn" scenario with Jon Snow.
  17. Whoops. I misquoted him in the thread title. Lol
  18. Sun It was just before his first training camp with the Winnipeg Jets, and Paul Maurice had a message to deliver. Gathering his team in the basement of the MTS Centre, the head coach was blunt. For players who a year earlier had spent the last days of camp doing team-building exercises in Banff under then-coach Claude Noel, it was clear there was a new man in charge. “Look around, and notice you’re not sittin’ in the mountains this year,” was the gist of what Maurice said. “You’re not sittin’ holding hands and singing Kumbaya. Look at the guy sittin’ beside you. This is who you’re going to battle with. The success you have is going to depend on how much you trust and believe in each other.” That’s one of the things you learned about the Jets boss if you attended the fundraising dinner for the Manitoba Junior League’s Winnipeg Blues, Tuesday, where Maurice let a few hundred people get to know him a little better. The guest speaker, Maurice was equal parts standup comedian and fatherly advisor as he spoke to a crowd of Blues players, staff, supporters — and one working member of the media. “I can’t tell you how bad a mood I was in when I got here,” is how he began. “And it’s not something that came up over the course of the day. You’ve gotta build a mood like that for a month.” It was one of several self-deprecating references Maurice made to the state of his team, coming off a November to forget. But instead of apologizing or offering explanations, he made people laugh. “I am an incredibly funny man,” he said in that deadpan delivery. “No, I’m serious. I’m a bag of giggles ALL DAY LONG. Except the rest of my speech doesn’t have anything to do with being funny. “I don’t know how your work’s going. Mine’s going a little bit rough.” Maurice’s speech was centred on three pieces of advice that had a major impact on his life. The first was from his mother: “You’ll never, ever have any idea how much you can love something until you have a kid.” The second came from a former colleague when Maurice was in Russia’s KHL. “I haven’t seen my kids in six months and I’m wondering what the hell am I doing in Russia?” Maurice recalled. “And he says, ‘You’ve got to find some joy in what you do.’” The third piece of advice was also directed at the Blues players. “In your locker-room, find a way to care about each other,” Maurice said. “Talk about it in your room. That’s what we try to do every day.” Tying those three themes together, Maurice told the Blues they, like all teenagers, had no idea how hard they’d have to work to be successful in any endeavour. That if they found a way to embrace the most stressful parts of what they do, they’d be alright. That leaving their parents’ home too early, like he did at 17, isn’t necessarily the right thing to do. “If you’re going to play in the NHL, you will,” he said. “All you’ve got to do is give everything you possibly can every single day of your life and the game will find you. You don’t have to go find the game.” Maurice also revealed how deeply he’s connected with his new home, thanking the Blues supporters for improving the city he’s “fallen in love with.” “I hope I get buried here,” he said, pausing just long enough for the punch line. “Again, not within the next couple seasons.” The next breath, he was serious again. “I’ll live here for the rest of my life. We want to keep these kids and give them opportunities to be great in town ... keep this city fantastic. For my kids and for their kids. That’s why this is important.” Maurice also took questions: How can he tell when his team comes together? “I’m hopeful. Because the game we played in Minnesota the other night... was the best defensive game we’ve played since I’ve been here.” How much did he miss Michael Frolik? “I liked Mike Frolik right up to the point that he didn’t want to be a Winnipeg Jet and I can’t remember what he looks like now.” What’s the ceiling for Mark Scheifele? “Is he going to be the captain of the team? I don’t know. But if you’ve got a daughter that you want to marry... Scheif’s your man.” Asked about the most inspirational player he’s ever coached, Maurice mentioned a few, including current Jet Blake Wheeler, whom he called “the hardest working man I’ve ever seen in my life.” By the end of the night, Maurice had a standing ovation — and a smile on his face. “Now I’m in a good mood,” he said.
  19. Here's one for you guys. You may or may not have seen. It's called the "Anywhere Match" or as I coined it locally, the "Cottage Country Match". Some background: It was filmed in 2008 and features Kenny Omega vs Mike Angels with the referee being portrayed by Rawskillz. Angels & Skillz were two local workers who were tremendously talented and very easily could have worked all over the world. Angels did, in fact, do two tours of Japan. Skillz retired shortly before this match was filmed. Angels still works for us occasionally. Skillz called me up one morning and told me they were driving out to the cottage to film a video and invited me to come to provide some ideas. I couldnt get out of work on short notice and also had no idea what they were doing. When the match was posted locally, some of the local guys reacted negatively. There had been a small backlkash to guys like Kenny (and Angels and Skillz) for their "Japanese style" work. It was pure jealousy though and when the truth came out, that talk stopped. And the truth is, there is a very talented guy in Japan named Kota Ibushi who was the "Anywhere Champion" in the DDT Promotion. It was essentially like the WWE 24/7 title. DDT wanted to promote an Ibushi vs Omega match and asked Kenny to film a hype video of him challenging for the Anywhere Championship. So this is what they came up with. I know some American wrestling fans wont like it, but it was for the Japanese audience and was used on their TV to hype the match. It was very well received. The best part is, when Omega arrived in Japan, all anyone asked him about was Mike Angels. They assumed the Canadian Anywhere Championship was a legit title defended here and that Angels was some huge Canadian star. They were impressed when Omega admitted he and Angels were friends. "Do you think you could convince him to come here?" they asked. And that is how Angels got two tours of Japan without even trying. Rawskillz was probably even better than Angels. Locally, Skillz' peak was 2005. Im in the process of digitizing all my 2005 archives and watching them back now, we call it the Year of Skillz. He was tremendous. Had he remained in the business, I have no doubt he would be in Japan right now. He was that good. Anyway...on to the match: ***Note, there is a sequel to this match but I couldnt immediately find it. And for those wondering what we're talking about in relation to Omega vs a 9 year old girl, here is that match (there was also local media coverage at the time this hit 1m views on youtube): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wezS-SFv0TE
  20. As for singling me out, NO, I was not the one who was chastising and calling out people on these boards to stop being disrespectful. At least, I don't recall doing that. What I do recall saying was that Harper deserved to be scorned and I was fine with that, but what I didn't like was people deliberately inventing lies about Harper, and posting them here. That was wrong. So, you are wrong. Very disrespectful. He's the friggen Prime Minister (or about to become). I hated it when PM Harper was personally attacked and I hate it when it's JT. Respect the position. It defeats the argument. Now its entirely possible what this person is saying is true about Trudeau being "dumb". I dont know him. But thats a poor way to make a point. I agree. Just like the nuts and loons attacked Harper with mostly made up gibberish and out-right lies, this video is disgraceful in the same way. I am all for criticism, but let it be fact-based. Attacking Trudeau before he's even sworn in is just sour grapes, I am afraid. So, to make this simple: TUP said "He's the friggen Prime Minister (or about to become). I hated it when PM Harper was personally attacked and I hate it when it's JT. Respect the position" You Said "I agree" Yet later on, you refer to JT as "Shiny Pony", "sunny family" that, "entitled brat" this. I made the hypocrite comment based on this. Ironically, you were defending JT... If I have misinterpreted the above, my apologies. If you want to continue this, feel free to PM me so we can spare the good people in the forums. That is all. I leave it at that. "Entitled Brat" isnt an insult to the position. It's an opinion of the person and many would agree its true. He *is* entitled and has been his entire life. Not many people really complained about insults to Harper's hair. I think you're splitting hairs when it comes to respecting the position of PM and not making amusing or critical statements. Its not disrespect to call into question Trudeau's handling of his Nanny's.
  21. There is a saying, funny doesnt draw money. But ofcourse everything is fair game within a certain context. Im not a big fan of WWE comedy because they are generally terrible at it. On Indy shows, or even any live events, more humor is injected because live fans and TV fans are different. Its funny you'd be embarrassed to be a fan when it comes to Omega vs the girl because that was a really good match. I wouldnt say it was funny. The "work" aspect was that Kenny is obviously much larger and stronger. But the work in the match, even from the little girl was tremendous. She was clearly well trained to not only work the way she did but to do so in front of a big crowd. It was an honor for Kenny to be trusted in that role because there were obviously some dangers to the child if something should go wrong. She was the promoter's daughter and asked Kenny to do it. They used to say Ric Flair was so good he could work a broomstick. This was an example of that. Kenny had a great match with a little girl. Did very believable moves that looked deadly. And the girl came out of it without a scratch or bruise. That's a testament to Omega's talent. You might not like it, but its true. I think New Day is often times an embarrassment to be honest. They walk a fine line between funny and stupid. But Goalie mentioned Chikara and there is speculation that New Day are Chikara fans because some of their schtick is ripped off (or a homage to) Chikara. Not my cup of tea. But ofcourse, the Japanese stuff of wresting blow up dolls, Invisible Man etc is for that audience and they are popular. I think the point is that even though they are doing ridiculous things, they are showcasing their talent. Invisible man match is pretty impressive even if its utterly ridiculous.
  22. Scott Weiland, the former frontman for rock bands Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died, his Facebook page confirmed early Friday morning (Dec. 4). Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while... Posted by Scott Weiland on Thursday, December 3, 2015 Dave Navarro, guitarist and member of Jane's Addiction, first tweeted the news at 9:01 p.m. PT on Thursday night: "Our friend Scott Weiland has died." (He has since deleted the tweet.) Weiland and his latest band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, are scheduled to tour this month with upcoming dates at Reno, NV on Dec. 18 and City Winery in Napa on Dec. 19. The band was in Minnesota for a tour date at the Medina Ballroom. According to TMZ, Weiland was found dead on the band's tour bus. The singer turned 48 on Oct. 27. Weiland long suffered from substance abuse issues.
  23. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But Id suggest if you didn't understand the match that you weren't the target demo. And more generally you don't follow Japanese wrestling. It would be like watching the Heroes of Wrestling show and saying all American wrestling sucks The match with the young girl was not a New Japan match Japan has several promotions just like America does.
