Game 55 : Airport @ Oilers
The Unknown Poster replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
this is probably just strategic. Can't carry three goalies. Hutch requires waivers. And if you want to trade Pavs you need to get him some time. Worst case scenario Helle plays lots rather than sitting. if jets were fighting for playoffs then it would be a weird decision. Buts it's really the only option. And the one I'm sure I said was most likely weeks ago. -

Really???? -
That's very interesting. Maybe he will capitulate. But I hear he's politically active and there will be pressure on him to maximize his deal to set standards for other players.
-
So Price is out for the year now. How about Ladd & Pavs to Montreal for ???
-
The thing about Ladd is since he's a pending UFA it softens the blow of not staying here. Even if his wife likes it here (I believe they built a new home a couple of years ago so they were clearly comfortable staying here), as a UFA he will have multiple offers and can pick a city the family might enjoy. I agree with Goalie that ideally they want D prospects/players, preferably LHD. Goaltending is good. Forward isnt bad with the prospects they have. But D is one major injury away from being a disaster. And there isnt a ton other than Morrissey in the bank there either. Ducky makes a good point about the Pens. Im sure I heard them linked to Enstrom earlier in the season when there was rumors the Jets were shopping him. They might like Enstrom for next season. Ladd would be a great fit there too but Im not sure the Pens could afford to resign him, especially if they also took Enstrom. They'd want to send salary back and we'd probably not want that. I mentioned Drouin before. He's a LW and fits the Jets young development model. But I also agree it would be a bit counter intuitive if Ladd goes and a forward comes back over a D man.

Big Bad Baby Bears @ Hopeful Jets

I dont think Maurice has forgot how to coach and he's not going to be replaced anytime soon so its sort of moot. But the assistants? Theyve been here from day one. I'd move on from them this off season. -
I agree with you. But what you wrote is part of the issue that creates a negative discourse. No one is denying the historical wrongs. But that doesnt mean someone cant hurl nasty hateful remarks at me because Im white. Or in certain communities I am not considered for certain things because Im white. Last year there was a minor protest movement when a small group of aboriginals blocked traffic on Portage. What went unreported was that the protesters hurled racial remarks at everyone that appeared to be white (I say appeared to be because some were actually aboriginal and were very upset). This isnt meant to undermine the sense of anger they might feel but how does that help? It doesnt. I saw on CNN some stats about Black Lives Matter showing that the idea that black people are singled out by police moreso than others isnt true. The comparison was made to Hispanics in the US also. It was very interesting., A lot of the problem is politics and leadership who wants there to be discourse to push an agenda. In most our daily lives we probably dont even think about different ethnicities as we relate to our friends, family and coworkers who are likely (in my case) white, black, asian, aboriginal etc. And various religions like Christian, Jewish, Muslim etc. I think sometimes celebrities like Beyonce feel they have to be a representative for some sort of movement and do the entire issue a dis service. Say the same thing about that idiot Sean Penn. Or even Dicaprio. Celebrities shouldnt be the authorities on any of this. Dovetail this into the OJ trial which is happening right now and its very interesting. How many people wanted OJ to get off because of the years of abuse and mistreatment perpetrated upon black residents of LA by the police? It didnt even matter if he did it. In fact it was probably better that he did it and got away with it.

The jets are looking good in the only race that matters.

What role do dean Martin and George Kennedy play? -
Well the second trailer was awful so I can't disagree with you that this should have been the second trailer!
-
If someone hates you or insults you for being white then it's racism. It doesn't diminish the historical wrongs against blacks in North America or aboriginals. But sure by definition it's still racism. Not laughable at all
-
I'm not sure it made a lot of sense. I guess it depends on perspective. The student was arguing a point for which she wasn't willing to consider the alternative view. It was a political argument and ofcourse hypocritical. just more noise that doesn't contribute to solutions.

I think Dana has already said that guy will be Punk's opponent, regardless. The only thing that might change that is if Punk takes too long to heal up and the guy decides he wants a fight in the meantime. From what I know about Punk, I'd consider his injury legit and his desire to fight to be legit. He doesnt seem like the kind of person that would be afraid of being beat up. On the other hand, he is a world class ******* so you never know. -
Now here's the trailer we've been waiting for from Batman V Superman. Very well done

And that is probably the only way this deal happened. Once Kane went down with an injury that ended the trade market for a lot of teams but it made it better for Buffalo who didnt want to get better. I dont think Buffalo makes that trade if Kane was healthy. And then they would have wanted to trade Myers and Stafford anyway so its entirely possible Buffalo doesnt have what the Jets want in the off-season and Kane doesnt get traded until then. And thus, the whole thing is different. Keep in mind also, that Lemieux wanted out of Buffalo.
-
There would have been multiple teams seriously interested in Buff and thats all it takes to drive up his cash and term. $8m+ easily and likely for 6-7 years. I could see an offer structured to drop in the last 1-2 years which means front loaded to the tune of $10, $10, $10, $8, $8, $6, $6. We did well. Buff is a laid back guy. He signed that long term deal with Atlanta without knowing what the future held (unless he was told on the DL that it was for sure Winnipeg). I still remember him being asked by incredulous American reporters why he'd sign a long term deal when he might end up in *gasp* Winnipeg and he had nothing but good things to say about that possibility.

Yeah there is such a racial divide still, in many cases. I saw a video on facebook that was getting liked a lot, of a school girl arguing vehemently with her teacher that white people cannot be victims of racism and thus he, as a white person, cannot teach about racism because he's never experienced it. Anyone can be the victim if bigotry and prejudice, including white people.
-
And with multiple teams bidding, its probably $8m+ and 6-7 years. Jets did great and Buff was willing to take less to stay here. Win-win.
-
The Cloverfield sequel? For sure, since it seems he had nothing to do with its creation at all. He's taken it on as the distributor and maybe they made a couple of changed to loosely relate it to the original.
-
Accepting that Myers is better than Bogo, the only way Buffalo could ever win this would be if Kasdorf becomes a #1 elite goalie which seems unlikely or if Kane ends up better than the combination of Armia, Lemieux and Roslovic. Its possible that each of those guys will end up better than Kane by themselves, let alone all three.

JJ is a good film maker. But I dont think he's a good creative person. Although I think he wriote Regarding Henry which doesnt really fit anything else he's done and was a good movie. He seems like a decent "idea man" but not the best guy to execute. And actually I'd say hes a very good film maker as far as how films look and feel. If all he did was produce and direct other people's work, he'd be great. Star Trek and Star Wars are good examples. He went into Star Trek admitting he was a Star WARS fan and wanting to change Trek. Both Trek films look great. But the story-telling and direction? Not so much. He's even admitted, in the case of STID, that it had some script issues. Star Wars, there were rumors he was butting heads with the studio because JJ is used to being the boss and with Star Wars he had rules to follow. And I think Star Wars was very good. Because JJ had rules and people looking over his shoulder and, kudos to him for this, bringing in Lawrence Kasdan to help write it. Lost was both the greatest series ever and the worst series ever. That first episode was unbelievable. So thumbs up to JJ for the concept and early creative. But it collapsed rapidly.

I wouldnt get too excited about Cloverfield. For starters, its JJ Abrams, who hasnt shown much ability to craft anything THAT good. And secondly, if I understand it correctly, this was a film that was written and made with NO connection to Cloverfield at all. It eventually ended up in the lap of JJ and they decided to, after the fact, make it part of the Cloverfield universe. And if there was any film that really didnt need a "universe" expansion, it was Cloverfield, which sucked.

4-6 weeks. Still possible for UFC 200 apparently. There is some real speculation that Punk will never fight in the UFC. He claims he will fight all 8 of his contracted fights no matter what. -

Titus' suspension reduced to 60 days. Still misses WrestleMania. This story has been picked up by a lot of media, including the New York Post who pushed the idea that its a racially motivated suspension. In local news, Danny Duggan is receiving a WWE try out in Florida. -
I cant really get behind entertainers who use stages like the SuperBowl to push a controversial and political narrative. Its one thing if its something everyone can get behind. But seemingly invoking Black Panther imagery and contributing to a racial divide during the Super Bowl of all places, would certainly result in her not getting an invite to return, if I were making the decisions. There seems to be some blowback on the Black Lives Matter stuff.
