  1. They think they are.
  2. Mutual fighting is even a worse reason. How about you start by giving two good reasons why fighting is necessary...and neither can be that it prevents dirty plays because that's not true.
  3. Raffl is done for the season.
  4. But that doesnt change the fact that they felt pressure. Its far too simplistic to say if one "goon" didnt want to fight, he could have quit. Ofcourse he could have. But if he also saw an opportunity to look after his family, the choice isnt so clear. It doesnt minimize the culture around fighting.
  5. Fighting is way down though. I think a better consideration for someone committing a dirty infraction is greater degrees of fines/suspensions. I guarantee that if you're a little prick, watching your good fight their good is less a deterrent than losing tens of thousands of dollars serving a suspension. And I would say not to eliminate fighting 100% but to make it an automatic game misconduct with suspensions tied to repeated game misconducts. That preserves the "right" of a team to gain revenge on a dirty player/team in extreme cases.
  6. I hate the argument that its self-policing. That's such a silly argument. In the real world, if someone robs me, I should track him down and beat him up so that he thinks twice about doing it again. I find the fights entertaining like most people. Sometimes, when a Jet is hit with a dirty check or a non-call, I want Peluso to throttle him. But realistically, fighting serves no usual purpose. The idea that less concussions result from fighting then regular physical contact is probably true because there are far less fights than body checks. MMA will tell you that fighting isnt a major cause of concussion. But I always argue if the NHL is serious about concussions (and I dont think they are), then they cant allow fighting to continue. The blows struck by a fairly slow moving fist that rarely lands might result in little to no damage, but the idea that an organization would say "we are serious about reducing concussions" would also endorse fighting as "part of the game" doesn't compute. Some will argue that players choose to fight. But there have been players that will say it isnt true. That a "goon" knows his role but he's obligated to serve that role if he wants to play in the NHL. I believe George Laroque has spoken out about this many times. Its sort of like, in wrestling, when WWE said "we dont make anyone do steroids, that's their choice" but the guys getting pushed, and thus getting more opportunities and money were the ones who looked freakish due to steroids. It wouldnt bother me if they eliminated fighting. And the argument that it would result in cheap shots is silly. If you fine/suspend players, cheap shots will stop. No one wants to lose money.
  7. True but there has been no reports of any of the original actors being seen. And there are "spy" photos of Chris Pine on set with the director for the re-shoots. Quinto was seen too and apparently the entire principal cast and some guest stars were back for the re-shoots, which lasted about a week. There is speculation that some showings of the film resulted in the audience panning the ending...so perhaps there were changes made.
  8. Nichelle Nichols (original Uhura) was at a Con this weekend and was asked if she had been contacted to appear in any upcoming Star Trek film or TV projects to which she replied "yes, but I cant talk about it". Take with a grain of salt but it could be indicative of something for the TV series. Star Trek Beyond just wrapped re-shoots, so its not for that. The only thing on deck for filming related to Star Trek is the new series which has begun camera tests. Although I have had an inkling of "something" being tacked onto Beyond the celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Trek. From things I've seen and read, I thought they might do a montage of scenes including the originals (from TOS episodes/films). If true, that might be what Nichols meant, not that she'd be filming anything new, but that she'd be "appearing".
  9. Lashley left WWE to try MMA. There was heat over it because they invested a lot in using him in the Vince/Trump angle at WM. Lashley signed with TNA because they had the deal with Bellator. So he could make some money between fights. Hes tailor made for WWE but he's getting up there in age too. And sometimes with WWE it's who you ticked off that counts. Ken Anderson was highly touted in WWE and was going to get the big spot as Vince's illigitmate son but the story was leaked so they went with Hornswoggle. Anderson ticked off Orton (and others) who felt he wasn't safe in the ring. They really dislike him. He's also older and I don't expect to see him in WWE at all. i would think they'd bring in the Hardy's because even as a nostalgia act they always made lots of money for WWE. And Jeff is still something special. Can't see Abyss at all. There was a time when it was known if you wanted to go to WWE you better not go to TNA but it's not as pronounced anymore. Tna has had lots of issues paying production people. Supposedly a few of their big contracts are "guaranteed" by panda energy (parent company). But they are basically running on fumes.
  10. I think a lot of the protests were hired guns. I certainly don't love trump but it's always nice when liberals take pride in denying someone else their free speech rights. It's embarrassing. And it would be on either side.
  11. WWE might have interest in Roode. They should. He's RAW ready. Only problem is he's 39. Could see him ending up in NXT as a player/coach type role. Rumors are several guys getting called up to RAW after WM so they need more bodies in NXT Cant see Young ending up there.
  12. Veterans like wheeler, little, buff will make us better than the oilers.
  13. The checks and balances in place should prevent him from being too dangerous. He'd be fought at every turn. If anything Trump as president would risk impeachment eventually. Maybe even coup. On the other hand he could bring out to vote many people who otherwise wouldn't vote. Is that enough to counter the moderates who will flock to Hilary to block him?
  14. I really liked the back to the future 2 aspects to genysis. It pays off nostalgia and takes us back to the really good beginnings of the franchise. The failings were lousy casting. And screwing with the one constant thoughout the franchie - that John Connor was the hero of humanity. They gutted the franchise of its heart.
  15. Connor-Matthews-Little
  16. It might seem that way. But having the best odds of winning something should always be the preferred option.
  17. I predict this thread will be very argumentative. hilary wins regardless. Unless she's in jail.
  18. The people behind terminator said there would be no sequel after the last one wasn't very good. And Paramount is having financial issues. But Arnold has a lot of stroke terminator seems like a simple concept. Hopefully they stop screwing it up. Just watched Creed. It was very well done. I admit I looked at the time a couple of times. But it was good. Well done way of making it a sequel for nostalgia that would appeal to us older fans but also basically a stand alone film.
  19. Its posible the Jets arena sold on Helle as an every-game starter. While he was our best goalie this season he did fade a bit before he was sent back down. Its entirely possible he would have worked through it and returned to form (he is playing well for the Moose), but the knock on Pavs when he was playing well was that he just rant out of gas as the season wore on. On the other hand if Pavs sucks, what good does it do to have him as the back up. I don't mind Hutch as back up. But with a "rookie" starter like Helle, you have to expect your back up to play more than a few games. The question is whether the Jets think Hutch is good enough to start 20 games. I think he probably is...
  20. I watched The Big Short last night. Its a good film with a great cast. You really have to have an interest in the Housing Market crash though. Its pretty complicated although they do try to dumb it down but its still difficult if you aren't really paying attention and somewhat interested in the subject matter.
  21. Maybe they need a form of sliding scale of suckyness so the same team doesn't cash in every year like Edmonton.
  22. Keep in mind when a player is called up under emergency basis he must go back down when the player he's replacing is healthy enough to play.
  23. Yeah we are probably over valuing our goalies, outside of Hutch. If Comrie was eligible he might be in play only because Vegas might decide he hs the potential to be goalie of the future so they take him. Not hard to sign a goalie in UFA. I think if we re-sign Hutch and leave him unprotected, unless he has a tremendous year next year, then he's probably safe. Should be better goalies available. However, Im not sure we resign Hutch, We still have Paves for next season. So Hutch would have to either be willing to sign a two way deal which he won't or accept the fact that he will end up on the Moose for much of the year. Unless the Jets somehow move on from Pavs... still possible they trade him to the Flames and retain half his salary,
