"So that brings us back to where we started. Yes, we have failed to prevent dangerous climate change. It is here. What remains to be seen is just how bad we’re willing to let it get. A window of opportunity remains for averting a catastrophic 1.5C/2.7F warming of the planet, beyond which we’ll see far worse consequences than anything we’ve seen so far. But that window is closing and we’re not making enough progress.
We cannot afford to give in to despair. Better to channel our energy into action, as there’s so much work to be done to prevent this crisis from escalating into a catastrophe. If the extremes of this summer fill you with fears of imminent and inevitable climate collapse, remember, it’s not game over.
    It’s game on."

I volunteered all winter feeding at a salmon hatchery, van. island. there are people there who have spent sixty years working on this project.  we released the fish into a few streams. yesterday we were asked to get ready to move them, by buckets, cause the one of the streams has dried up, due to record low rainfall.
very disturbing.  how awful to see your life work, selflessly spent helping others, destroyed for the sake of billionaire oil company owners like the kochs. who are investors in Alberta I think.

I was watching this video on Youtube and I just wanted to say - what amazing talent - Mama Cass and John Denver - that both left this world way before they should have.  One day I hope that technology allows future generations to capture the genius of people like this and can store it and perhaps pass it on somehow.  The Divine Spark.  Whatever it is that exists in creative minds that have created so much beauty and art and magic that we enjoy to this day, that they just somehow created out of their own minds and passed on to us lucky ones who don't have their talent.  Perhaps somehow one day we can study this
"innovation" and capture it and replicate it.  To further enhance the beautiful human experience.

Not even close. I was just talking to my wife about the worldwide heat wave, ( US, EU, China, Japan, Uruguay...) and was telling her that as we slide into this you are going to see a huge amount of stress put on to society. If you buy into Jared Diamonds idea , environmental issues have been the cause of many societal collapses,  wars, genocides.... I don't agree with all his ideas but generally agree with alot of it.

Not as easy as one might think. The police forces and military are well populated with right-wing sympathizers as was demonstrated by the number of these charged in the January 6th coup attempt. Moreover, during his term in office Trump appointed as many sympathizers to judicial posts as he could, adding to those appointed by Bush2. The GOP has been very busy at the school board, municipal and state levels.

Depends on who votes right. Young ppl likely dig Trudeau where as the straight white middle aged male likely leans conservative federally but that's because we used to have all the money and Land, we still do but it's not as fun now.
God help us If PP gets in. I have faith tho that the fringe vocal minority groups that we used to ignore b4 social media was a thing will still be ignored.
In the end tho us prairie folks in Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta who tend to go conservatives federally, we don't matter. Not saying I vote conservative,  I'm just saying we live in blue provinces. Winnipeg sometimes is orange tho.
