  1. The only one I'm not sure about would be Zach Anderson over JD Griggs.
  2. PLL was solid depth, and was asked to do a lot more than he should have been doing at points in his Bomber career.
  3. Really Don Matthews? Can't believe anyone would even say that.... I think I see what Spuds is saying. Ya, undeniably a great coach when you look at his record overall, but at some point he just wasn't the same as he used to be. A '67 Camaro is a sweet ******* car til the engine blows and the wheels fall off.
  4. I've noticed that a lot of online outlets aren't bothering with the allcaps. Some articles I've seen from the Sun around Canada are going with RedBlacks. Googling REBLACKS this morning, and CBC.ca is also going with RedBlacks. It's such a dumb idea that it might not even gain enough traction to stick til the start of the season. k wait, that wasn't a goofy trend created here? that was an actual thing they tried to start? my word what a dumb idea... Oh, it's a thing. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/ottawa-cfl-redblacks-franchise-asks-write-nickname-caps-193804246.html
  5. Matt Nichols hasn't been brought up much. Is it universally agreed that he is too 'injury prone' to be considered starter material? If it came down to Burris +1 but Collaros/Willy were too expensive or otherwise spoken for, I imagine Nichols would come at a cheaper rate. Or at least have a different sort of structure to his contract due to his injury history. He sure can play from what we've seen. I know the immediate reaction for most people is 'Nooooope, not again.' Somehow I can't figure out what separates a player from being unlucky, foolhardy, or full blown injury prone.

  7. Here is the video they played at the unveiling of the name. It goes into the origin of the name a bit. Plenty of bilingualism and emotionally manipulative music to go around. http://www.ottawaredblacks.com/video/index/id/91509
  8. I hear you. To be clear, I think the actions of the individuals in question are reprehensible. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
  9. I thought Orlondo Steinauer had the Hamilton D turned around significantly from 2012 (a low bar, maybe). I wouldn't complain about seeing him here as our DC.
  10. I think it's offensive that MBB bleeps the word gay. MBB must be a forum full of homophobes. I'm calling the Free Press.
  11. Nope, I'm not ignoring that at all. Shwarma Time on Ellice has had to put up with some **** over the years, but they're going strong years later with a very specialized menu. Why? Probably because Winnipeg is more ethnicly diverse and densely populated than a place like Morris. For every white bread Winnipeger who wouldn't set foot in a dark and musky Lebanese owned/operated street meat vendor, there is another Winnipeger who will. Do you accept that literally the only reason these businesses couldn't stay afloat was because of racism and bigotry? That if it wasn't for all those darn racist homophobes these businesses would have been thriving? If so, then you must be ignoring the existence of successful businesses owned by people of color in this town that haven't had to close their doors due to attacks by racists. I maintain that these businesses probably failed because the market wasn't right for them, plain and simple. There is no network of bigots in Morris trying to keep down the black/gay man, only a handful of garden-variety assholes you'll find in every town on the planet and a few businesses that were probably doomed to fail from the start.
  12. I'm just skeptical at this point in our ability to find our own QB. If we are ready to fight and spend, we could probably land our pick of the crop of FA QBs this year and hopefully reap the benefits for years. Burris is probably penciled in at #2 on everyone's QB wish list right now.
  13. The thought of Cortez and Burris putting up 2012-esque numbers together in Blue and Gold is pretty intriguing... but what I really want is a promising QB on the upswing of his career, not one that affords us a year or two at best.
  14. If they hire Cortez it pretty much cements Burris as the teams QB. Another reason I want a different HC. I wouldn't say you're wrong, but what makes you think Cortez would value Burris (who probably only has another year or two in the tank) over Collaros or any of the other FA QB's? Just because he went out and got him in 2012? Wasn't Burris simply the best available option at the time?
  15. I don't know what is fact and fiction in this little drama, but it sounds to me like the location and the business plans put in place are the problem... I'm willing to bet that small venues with limited seating that over-specialize their menus tend to take a while to gain traction, assuming they ever do. I mean, Pots and Hands was apparently a great place for raisin pudding and chicken salad-stuffed cashew-encrusted baked potatoes, but that doesn't exactly scream door-crasher to me. Niether does Carribean cuisine in general. Not saying it's bad, and I'm not saying it's the only thing served at Thea's, but if I were betting between a Carribean diner and a Southern BBQ joint I'm going all in on the BBQ joint. This is the fifth business in the last four years to close down at that location. It may be easier for the business owners to blame homophobia and racism for the failure of their businesses. However, it's easier for me to believe that any combination of the service, menu selection, atmospehere, and quality of food played a much greater role in their downfall. And while I can't site specific examples, I'm willing to believe the mayor when he says there are numerous successful businesses Morris that are owned/operated by people of color. I've never been to Morris and probably won't have any reason to go there in the future... so I don't know why I even care... but this sounds a lot more like easy headlines than actual journalism, and it's a shame to see a community repeatedly painted with such broad strokes.
  16. This bit from the Argos website in April 2013: Toronto Argonauts General Manager, Jim Barker announced today that Ted Goveia has been named the team’s Director, Player Personnel. Goveia has spent the past two seasons as the club’s Director, Canadian Scouting. Since 2011, Goveia has been responsible for recruitment strategies in both Canada and the U.S., scouting various NFL pre-season camps as well as coordinating the CFL Canadian Draft for the Argonauts. He first joined the Argos in 2010 as an assistant coach and prior to that spent 15 years in various coaching and recruitment capacities throughout the CIS and Canadian Junior Football ranks. With this announcement, Goveia becomes one of just two Canadian Player Personnel Directors in the CFL (Craig Smith, Saskatchewan). Barker remarked, “Ted has worked very hard to get this promotion. He started as a Canadian scout, and as a former CIS and junior head coach he was well suited for this role. Over the last three years, he has expanded his contacts and the scope of his work, and is now ready for this position.” Commented Goveia, “I’m very excited to take on this role. Our scouting department has synergy and I’ve enjoyed working closely with Jim Barker and Chris Jones to continue to find and secure top quality talent for our coaches. We have something good going here in Toronto and I believe our team can only get better as we work hard to build a roster that competes for the Grey Cup year after year.”
  17. From unofficial heir apparent to official heir apparent. Good for him.
  18. MRW I went 4/0 in the playoffs on the backs of two teams I love to see lose...
  19. Here is a 10 minute video of Wade Miller following the announcement that Tim Burke was fired. Miller discusses the firing of Tim Burke, his thoughts on possibly retaining Burke as a coordinator, and fields questions about the new GM and HC. When asked about Khari Jones specifically, he says he won't comment on potential HC candidates and let personal relationships influence his decision... he insists the GM will select the HC, not himself. http://new.livestream.com/WinnipegFreePressNews/events/2544481/videos/34735766 From the WFP
  20. When we hired Tim Burke as our DC I saw it as an enormous coup for the team, considering that he was arguably the best DC in the league and had a wealth of previous coordinator experience. But it was LaPo who hired him, and if LaPo didn't think that Burke suited the team for whatever reason then LaPo wouldn't have hired him - best DC in the league or not. The point is that a Head Coach should have the freedom to choose his own staff, not have staff assigned to him no matter their credentials. My two pennies. Edit: I should add that if the new HC actually wants Burke around as DC I'd be thrilled to keep him on.
  21. I like 'Chancellor' myself... he'd be the Chancellor on Chancellor
