Bombers Rookie Camp/Training Camp/Pre-Season Thread

In twitter time it was 20 minutes but in reality Castillo had been released earlier in the day and the announcement just hadn't gone out yet. Still a very fast turn around though - Jeff Hamilton figures under 2 hours. -

Even ignoring the Castillo signing, that was already made quite clear by the s**tload of kickers we are bringing to camp. -

Unless he goes south or waits it out (like he did in 2021), I don't know that he has too many options? It's pretty close to camp and most teams are set at kicker. -

I'd be surprised if we don't. There's obviously interest there if we were talking trade recently. -
Yep, Kamloops is the host this year so they are going regardless.

The Blue Bombers have been the least-penalized team on specials over in each of the last three years. They were first in 2019 with 30 infractions on special teams; first in 2021 with 19 and first last season with just 14 – 20 fewer than the next lowest teams (Hamilton, Montreal and Saskatchewan were all at 34). Being the least penalized team does not surprise me but how few ST penalties we took last year is amazing. We could have doubled our penalties and still finished 1st with room to spare. -
Ice swept the Blades tonight so they are off to the WHL finals. They'll face either Seattle or Kamloops (the top two teams in the West).

2023 CFL Draft Discussion

He is 26. He was shitting on the Bombers for drafting someone older than him. According to him, our first two picks were reaches and you should never draft by need. 🙄 -

Not missing! The witness is just hanging out with the person who's going to bring Wab down. They are strategizing about how & when to come forward so they can maximize their impact.

I'm leaning towards not true... I have a hard time believing anyone who spent time there growing up would choose to go back as an adult. -

I think that's the feeling across the league. The panel also touched on that a bit last night. There were no trades at all and the panel figured it was because there wasn't really anybody who stood out as a "must have" type of player that you'd be willing to give something up for. -

https://3downnation.com/2023/05/03/winnipeg-blue-bombers-sign-kicker-marc-orozco-two-others/ We talked about two of these guys when they were signed a few weeks ago but I didn't see it announced anywhere else that the Bombers are bringing back Robbie Lowes after he got hurt in rookie camp last year. Glad to see he's healthy again. -
It's the Home Parenteral Therapy Program. It's a home IV treatment program. We have a similar program here but with a much simpler name, the Community IV Program (CIVP).

I get that it might be harder to say something about guys picked towards the end of the draft but there is literally zero analysis here. 8 (65) Edmonton Elks — RB Derek Best, Langley Rams The former Western Mustang ran the ball 43 times for 277 yards and three touchdowns over nine career CJFL games for the Rams. 8 (70) B.C. Lions — OL Troy Kowal, Minot State The native of High River, Alta. was a two-year starter with the Beavers who performed 10 reps of 225 pounds at the CFL Invitational Combine. -

Riders take Tavius Robinson with their last pick. Was hoping the Bombers would have used one of their late picks on him. Last pick: Max Charbonneau, University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ont.) The least productive of Ottawa’s draft-eligible linebacking corps, Charbonneau has the most pro-ready frame at six-foot-two and 224 pounds. He’s not a special athlete in any one area but has the skill set to contribute on special teams. https://3downnation.com/2023/04/29/2023-cfl-draft-position-rankings-linebackers/ -

7th round pick: Jonathan Rosery, University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alta.) A converted running back with a thick lower body, the five-foot-eight, 199-pounder posed a match-up challenge in space at the collegiate level but is not polished as a pass catcher. While his change of direction is solid, Rosery’s small stature, average explosiveness and poor long speed make him a difficult CFL projection. https://3downnation.com/2023/04/26/2023-cfl-draft-position-rankings-receivers/
