Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
bigg jay replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I got the impression MOS was just being diplomatic there - he's not going to throw Hogan under the bus but he didn't exactly give him a ringing endorsement either. He said the OC issue needs more conversation and study but acknowledged the players weren't happy with how things went and that's on him as HC to clean up. -
Hopefully Elgersma, in time, can become that guy for us.

They can always make an announcement prior to GC week like Calgary did last year. -
Yup. Offense was not an issue in BC prior to his arrival. New system but same tools so I guess kudos to Buck for not messing it up I guess?

BC still sucks but the Rider both suck and blow so there's that.

3DN has pretty much confirmed most of this list with a few differences: The Winnipeg Blue Bombers' potential 2026 free agents list - 3DownNation Not on the 3DN list (some of these guys may have re-signed at some point or they weren't on a standard deal): Ayers - signed for the 2024 season with team option for 2025. Cobb - confirmed to have signed a 1 year deal for 2025. Kelly - signed his rookie deal in 2023 so it expires after this season. Randolph - signed for the 2024 season with team option for 2025. Vanterpool - signed for the 2024 season with team option for 2025. T. Wilson - signed for the 2024 season with team option for 2025. They also have Houston listed but I haven't seen it specifically listed anywhere that he came back on a 1 year deal but it's very possible\probable. -
Cam Allen as well. Not sure how many rookies you expect to make an impact, especially when the HC prefers to run with a veteran group (despite subpar play from some of them).

We only got 2 sacks in that game - both by rookies. Matt Jaworski (Fordham University) had one & so did Kydran Jenkins (Purdue - where he was teammates with Cam Allen) . -

Another option: do the team a solid by taking a pay cut so they can spend in FA & get him some help. -

Did a quick list based on what I can quickly find from news releases and/or when players signed (I assumed the standard 3 year rookie deals for nationals & 1 year with a team option for a 2nd year with imports unless a specific length was announced). Might be off on a few and I'm sure the list will dwindle by the time FA officially opens. AYERS, Michael BONDS, Terrell BRYANT, Stanley CADWALLADER, Tanner CASE, Kody CASTILLO, Sergio COBB, Gavin DEMSKI, Nic ELI, Asotui GAUTHIER, Shayne GRIFFIN II, Michael HALLETT, Nick HOLM, Evan JEFFERSON, Willie KELLY, Jake KOLANKOWSKI, Chris KRAMDI, Redha LAWSON, Cameron LOFTON, Eric MAKONZO, Enock MITCHELL, Dillon NEUFELD, Patrick NICHOLS, Deatrick OLIVEIRA, Brady PARKER, Jamal RANDOLPH, Kendall SCHMEKEL, Tanner SCHOEN, Dalton SHEAHAN, Jamieson STERNS, Jerreth STREVELER, Chris THOMAS, Jake VANTERPOOL, Micah VAUGHTERS, James WHEATFALL, Keric WILSON, Kyrie WILSON, Terry WOODS, Jamal The following players ended the season on the PR, making them FA's immediately: Devin Adams, De'Shaan Dixon, Ben Dooley, Matthew Jackson, Jay Person, Hunter Poncius,, Fabian Weitz, AK Gassama, Justin Mayers. -
Not a good day for Blue teams.

Ok which one should be let go, in your opinion? I think it's a bit too early to judge their work. It's not their fault that the cupboard was bare when they showed up. We should have had more 2nd year guys ready to step up this season. We have guys like Jenkins and Jaworski that look promising for next year but other than maybe Person, I can't think of anyone from last season who was in that position this year. That all falls on Danny Mac and the previous scouting staff.
-
I mean we did just overhaul our scouting department less than a year ago (Danny Mac aside). We hired 3 new guys (Deslauriers, Jauch & Sunderland) in January to replace Goveia & Penn so I could see them being kept on.

Yup he's been clear that he's willing to move but it has to be the right situation. In 2019 Montreal was interested in him but he pulled himself from the running. He did an interview in 2021 where he talked about it. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2021/12/08/for-mcmanus-its-all-about-winning "For McManus to take the plunge, pack up his things in Florida and move up north full time to fill the void for an organization, it would only be for a place that shares the same values as him. “They got to be committed to winning and not committed to just putting a decent product on the field. Winning is the most important thing. All these guys out here that are in between the white lines, all they care about is winning. When I was a player, that’s all I cared about: winning,” said McManus.
-
Poor clock management on Calgary's last drive gave BC an opportunity to win and they took it.
-
Took Goveia a million years before Hamilton finally gave him a shot. Might not be a deep pool but it's also not like there are a lot of jobs and teams like to recycle (ex Hervey or Maciocia).
-
If that's true, why does he get serious consideration from other teams when they are looking for a new GM?
-
Buck vs the Hamilton Blue Bombers is my hope for GC.
-
Handle it internally - Jake Thomas player/coach/gm!
-
GC festival is only 9 days away. We'll get the usual "we're going to sit down and review everything before making any decisions" kind of thing so it'll be stretched out (even no-brainers like Hogan) i'm sure.
-
Wonder if hosting the GC will delay any announcements/decisions. I'm sure Wade is going to want attention focused on a successful GC week but I don't know if that can happen with that turd of a season.
-
They extended ZC after last season so I would not be surprised if something like that happens.
-
Fitting play to end the season.
