Hockey Players Dont Want To Play In These Cities....
Atomic replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Not even slightly surprising, unfortunately. -
"Overrated" is of course a very subjective term. I'm not going to get into a debate over who is *most* overrated, so I'll just revise my statement to say I think he is wildly overrated. A good player but not a star by any means. Very inconsistent.

I think any discussion for Eberle starts with two of Trouba, Morissey, Ehlers, Petan. Myers. Not that I want to give up that much, but I think that is what Edmonton would be asking for. Watching Eberle over the years, not a huge fan. Yes, high point total (39pts 57 games) and yes very very soft hands but very soft when it gets physical. Just doesn't seem to play the style PM has put in place. Definitely would not sell the house to acquire his services whereas if Lucic came available . . . Lucic has gotta be the most overrated player in the NHL

How about Vermette for Postma straight up considering Postma is a young, puck moving D man. I realise bidding is going to shoot up Vermette's value though. Yeah that deal would never happen, unfortunately. These rental player deals always gouge the buyers. And at this point, we have to ask ourselves how much do we want to sacrifice for success this year? Because as much of a Jets booster as I am.... I mean, we're not winning the Cup. Hell, we could draw St. Louis or Nashville in round 1 and get rocked, if we make it at all. I'm not sure now is the time to be blowing away your prospects and picks on a rental.

Why? Lots of American RB's that come up here on their first CFL contract aren't making anywhere near league minimum. Chad Simpson for example. Brought him in from the States and he was making well above league minimum. Sure, some RBs that arrive might be making league minimum or close to it, but I wouldn't just assume that a guy like Toston (who wouldn't be coming in as a starter), will be making a whole boat load of cash or really any more than Joe NFL-Cut. Every contract is different. It's not about the money, it's about the fact that we should be able to recruit a decent running back and not pick up a retread like Toston who's proven that he isn't a starter. He's never proven that he isn't a starter. He has had 6 carries in the CFL for God's sake. Someone spends too much time over at Riderfans.

That's really all there is to it. -
Perreault out for the bulk of the regular season. Lower body. Stafford day-to-day, will skate in DC tomorrow.

Willing to part with the price it will take to get him? Thinking first round and a prospect at least.

If Stafford is still in, that makes things a little better. Really don't like the idea of Galiardi in the top 9 so hopefully we can avoid that.

I don't think it has to do with showing the human body naked. I think it has to do with showing the human body in a sexually explicit pose on the cover of a magazine for everyone to see. Not that anyone buys magazines anymore. The only time I ever see a magazine rack is when I go into a gas station when I'm on a road trip. Going to the beach and seeing people in bikini's, even thong ones, is different then someone who is pulling their bikini's down in a sexual way. It has to do with body language. Oh, and just to make a comment about kids, not all kids are raised on the internet. Parents who give a crap don't let their kids do whatever they want on the internet. Please don't generalize. Parents who think they can control what their kids are seeing these days are either naïve or helicopter parents. Maybe you can watch them until they're 8 or 9, but after that all bets are off. They will end up at a friend's house where the parents don't watch as closely as you do and away they go. My parents were fairly strict when I was young and if I could figure out a way to get my hands on a Playboy then kids today can sure as hell find porn or whatever else they want on the internet. -
Klingberg is also a natural winger while Cormier is a centre. It's ugly but we might go into next game (and the foreseeable future depending on injury news) with forward lines of: Ladd - Little - Wheeler Frolik - Scheif - Byfuglien Galiardi - Lowry - Thorburn Klingberg - Slater - Peluso And that's assuming they move Buff up to wing temporarily.
-
Makes sense. Winnik and Galiardi were basically the only 2 noteworthy forwards left a month into free agency and Galiardi signed here a couple days after Winnik signed in Toronto. I think its safe to say we were bidding on Winnik and Galiardi was a distant plan B.

It's funny. It's how social media should be used by teams.

I'm interested in taking a step forward before winning the race. Progress, even a little bit is a worthwhile endeavour. Going from bad to great is unrealistic, going from bad to average to great is a much easier transition though. Too many people impatient and looking for those magic beans that will fix everything, they don't appreciate the process of building something up. I'm interested in turning things around. Not in 5 years, or 3 years, or 2. NOW. Other teams have done it, gone from being a cellar dweller to highly competitive in one year, so it is something that can be done. I'm tired of the excuses and the "Rome wasn't built in a day" crap. This ain't Rome, so build the bloody thing now. And by the way, I think that Walters, as much as I was really concerned about him when he was hired, seems to be of a like mind. So forget average, because when you aim for average, you've already failed. Like I said, impatient with no respect for the process. Impatient, damned straight I'm impatient. I would think that anyone who is concerned about this team, it's traditions and it's history, both recent and farther back, would fell the same way. Tell me, how has your patience worked out for you so far? You're happy with how the team has been performing these last 5 or so years? Participation ribbons are good enough for you? And as for respect fothe process, that's rich. What process exactly am I to respect. The process that has kept this team where it's been for so long? Buzz words and catch phrases might be ok for you but I'll take results. Not only that I expect them. Clearly, with your "respect the process" mantra, you must be a Leafs fan. The last line is the funniest because as I was reading your post I was thinking "Man this guy sounds just like a Leafs fan."

If we lose it will be Pavs fault for being too easy to score on in practice
-
I like both Brohm and Marve. Portis has no game experience so I would prefer to have 2 guys ahead of him who have shown they can play. Every team carries 4 or 5 QBs through the season now so IMO signing Brohm would be a smart move.

Great read keep it going
-
Chiarot could be playing on the left side for us for a long time.
-
Every team has changed. As much as we want to believe it, we can't just say 6 wins plus Stanley Bryant = playoffs. We also can't say 9 wins minus Ben Heenan = a bad season for the Riders. IMO Calgary and Edmonton will be the class of the league again. Between Sask, BC, and Winnipeg, its a toss up. It's going to be a very competitive season and the Bombers won't be handed anything.

I was surprised at Myers' top end speed that he showed on the Wheeler goal. Didn't realize he had that in him.
-
Ya LeFors only played in 3.5 games in 2009 and Bishop couldn't run. Good try though.
-
It does.

Swiston had a lot more success at the collegiate level (Canada West lineman of the year, Canada West all star, CIS second team all star) but has had about the same amount of professional success as Tyson Pencer, which is to say not much. But at least he is still employed.
