Bombers @ Lions: Game Day Thread (07/21/17)

So you'd prefer that the president of the organization has final say over who is in the lineup. Not a fan of that approach. -
So because we don't have Manny Arceneaux, O'Shea is not able to attract good players? That's some fuzzy logic.

So why don't we just fire everyone every year they don't win the Grey Cup? Never mind that we actually finished ahead of Edmonton last year. But because at this present moment in time we are behind them in the standings, suddenly we aren't competitive with those teams and our management is terrible, coaches are mediocre, etc. More knee-jerk BS IMO. -

Sorry it's not wrong, it's my opinion and what I would personally do. -

Yeah. It was pretty clear that firing Berry after 3 straight years in the playoffs, including a GC appearance was a stupid move. It was also pretty clear that firing Lapo 8 games after making the GC was also a stupid move. But hey, it shows that mediocrity isn't good enough and that we're always looking to upgrade so I'm sure all the "I'VE BEEN A FAN FOR 60 YEARS AND DESERVE BETTER" fans were happy with those moves. -
Vandervoort was the right play at first overall, IMO. We took Ekakatie with the expectation Thomas would be starting and we needed a capable backup. Now that didn't happen so the positional need was only imagined and the skill-level of the player is not equal to what a first overall should be. Basically we reached for a positional need that wasn't actually a need. Kinda the worst thing you can do. I still think Ekakatie has lots of potential, I'm just not sure he was the best use of that pick. All that being said, it looks like this was a pretty weak draft so I'm not sure it's worth crying over.

So then how would Doug Berry disagree with me? Your post made no sense, is all I'm saying. If O'Shea goes three straight years with playoff appearances and no wins, I'd agree that we should probably cut ties with him at that point. However that seems incredibly unlikely and I doubt we ever have to cross that bridge. -

Yeah that's a head scratcher. Although I do like Brandon Alexander and Brian Walker. Fogg had his struggles on defence last season, there is no question about that. But never to the degree that Carmichael has struggled.

He fired himself? I think Doug would agree with me. Lyle Bauer might not, however. -
At what point do we just stop with all the drama and say yes, football is dangerous. There's a good chance you will suffer brain injuries if you play for an extended period. If you drive a race car, you can get in a crash and die. If you go skydiving, the parachute might not open and you could die. If you are a fighter, any number of things can go wrong and you could die. If you're a football player, you're putting yourself at risk of brain damage. That's the risk. Play or don't play. No one is forcing anyone to do anything.

Now go back and watch what BC's defence was doing and maybe you'll start to understand. -
Other than BC you've named one receiver for each team. OK here is the Bombers' receiver: Weston Dressler. Or do the Bombers' receivers have to be equal to the entire league combined?

As long as we are in the playoffs he keeps his job, IMO. No time limit. -
It counts, you receive one of these:

No that's the roster for the Sochi Open. But yes, presumably some of those players would be the type that would be playing for Canada in the Olympics.

There's nothing wrong with using a DI on a great kicker like Medlock or Maher. The problem is using a DI on a bad kicker like Serna or even an average one like Damon Duval. -
Yeah it's a weird one... but Ottawa is also on bye this week, technically.

Not only that, they are all damn good kickers. It's crazy how much CFL kicking has improved over the last 5 or 10 years. -
A stubborn old coach named O'Shea, Figured his kicker was Okay. Medlock was ready, His aim was real steady. But his kick couldn't go the damn whole way.

Looking Ahead: Montreal Vs Winnipeg

They got us to a 50 yard field goal attempt. IMO that's the goal, especially considering time remaining and Medlock's usual proficiency. Thought it was a nice drive but that last play to leave us with 1 second could have been disastrous. -
That was the best look I could get from the CFL recap. On the second effort he goes up and out of the frame.
-
Pretty damn close either way! @lyin' guy @Sard @Noeller

Each is still only covering one man or zone at a time. I'm not sure how much Randle could help Carmichael at HB or Heath help Walker at CB. So basically all you'd be doing is taking one of our good DBs out of a high-traffic area and putting them into a lower-traffic area and moving an inexperienced DB into a tougher spot. In other words, you could put Carmichael at boundary HB and he's just going to get picked on even more because it's an easier throw most of the time. Randle would still have his own responsibilities to look after. I suppose it could help with communication but not sure if that's been the issue or not. -
Looks like 10-8 or better from my vantage point. Whether we win any in the playoffs, who knows? Anything can happen.
