  1. Iso any word in Calgary about the rumoured joint arena/stadium proposal for the Stamps/Flames of late? Or is that on the backburner with the drop in oil and probable huge deficit in Alberta? I've heard rumours that some kind of announcement is coming "soon", whatever that means. The word soon has been for a couple of years now. All 3 levels of government have said no to any kind of public funding & now with the provincial economy in the tank the Flames would be crazy to even consider that as an option. The primary Flames owner Murray Edwards is a billionaire & I've heard stories a new arena will be 100% privately funded by him but it will come at a price for fans. If you want season tickets to watch the Flames, rock concert, circus, pro lacrosse then you'll have to pay expensive individual seat licenses. If it's anything like the 49ers owners have done then I'm thinking maybe ten to 15 grand financed over a five year period for a decent seat. I also think the arena will be stand alone & no new stadium will be attached with the project. I'm just speculating here. Wow! That will be something if they go that route. As wealthy as Calgary is, I'm not sure they would find 17,000 or so folks willing to pay between 5,000 - 15,000 for seat licenses. Maybe a smaller amount for general seats but larger amounts (like the 5 - 15,000 you suggested) for club seats and suites? Maybe a tax on each ticket ($5) bought? Anyways, it will be interesting to see how things shake out. The economic forecast for oil and gas is grim for at least the next 3-5 years and if the alternate energy source called LENR lives up to its progress thus far, oil could become almost irelevant in value. That would't be all bad. Oil will never be irrelevant. Even if it gets surpassed as an energy source there are still a lot of commercial products made from oil. Plastics being one example, you see the world getting off plastic any time soon? Never mind that usurping oil as a fuel is going to be a real hard task in it's own right.
  2. big tall guy with decent speed and great hands and is good at going up and getting the ball... yeah he'll get chances just based on those facts alone. You can't teach size, and a player that knows how to use his size is always going to be given opportunities.
  3. a third rounder, how generous of you. Johansen has way way way way way way way way more value than Kane and Postma isn't enough to bridge that gap. okay, I'd throw in Pardy too.... Seriously, upgrade to a 2nd rounder and make the deal although he is out 4-6 months now with shoulder surgery so this will be done in the off season where the Jets get more back for him. I am guessing it will happen before the draft or on draft day. upgrade it to the Jets first rounder and the Blue Jackets might not immediately hang up the phone but I think you are really over estimating how much value a known problem child in Kane is going to have, especially when you consider that Johansen has done nothing but up his value in recent years. Being a guy who can play top line centre he automatically holds more value than a winger, never mind that he's gotten better and better where as Kane hasn't and is a massive gamble because of his attitude. Pardy and Postma are throw ins that every team has. You are going to be disappointed in the return Kane gets I guarantee it. Teams will want him, but they'll want him at a discount price.

  5. "...no, I mean they're BIIIIG...I mean, I look at them and go 'oh you've really let yourself go'..." One of my all-time favorite stand-up acts of all time! Best....RIP... Trying to place that quote and it's bothering me now. Is it the big fat guy who was getting mugged on the Seinfeld finale? I'm impressed that that's where you'd go for recognition.
  6. yeah 360 pounds at 17, that is not a positive in my mind. That speaks to someone who is going to struggle to not be massively overweight all through life.
  7. That does it - I'm calling it the Superb Owl from now on I think it was probably Stephen Colbert who made that a thing.
  8. The whole thing was just so senseless. I really have no use for people who get so angry they think that punching anyone, let alone a guy in his 60s is a reasonable course of action. 3rd Down was a staple on every CFL message board out there, the guy was just a huge fan of the game.
  9. Any one who actually thought the guy was coming here is crazy
  10. Yeah unless you got the address of this place in the first couple days or from a person already here you'd have to find it by accident. the folks at ourbombers filtered the name of this place even in PMs. It's that kind of attitude that is why so many people abandoned ship when a better alternative showed up.
  11. Good for him ... bad for us ... I think the point is it's bad for him. He can't cash in on his Super Bowl performance because he's already locked in for next year at league minimum. Still a lot more than he would have made if he'd had to keep working at footlocker.
  12. Taman probably got confused and thought he was paying Ryan and not Chris.
  13. No other fan base was as vocal about how unfair it was that the Esks could spend their way to cups. The issue here is how Rider fans acted when it wasn't them doing it compared to how they act when they're the ones doing it. Joke of a fanbase plain and simple. That was many years ago, & just because there was a loud opposition to the Esks spending twice as much as other teams is irrelevent to today's fanbase. And you can call them a joke all you want, the fact are that the Riders are the monetary backbone of the CFL. Like Cohon said during GreyCup in Regina in '13, without the popularity of RiderNation there is no way the CFL would've had the bargaining power to demand the vastly improved TV deal with TSN. Did you ever wonder why TSN produced an NFL Films-like documentary on Grey Cup 2013 & nothing for the Stamps last year? this is why everyone else laughs at you rider fans. so up your own asses it's not even funny.

  15. Have you ever looked up the word cheat in the dictionary? Just wondering. What are the Riders doing that is not public information? You keep references a decade ago: are the riders secretly paying double or triple the payroll that the bombers are? Do you have any facts to back up your argument or are you just howling at the moon. If you want to discuss it, I'm all ears, if you just want to bash the riders go ahead its your site. You keep missing the point. Iso has been around the CFL message boards for a long long time, so have I, so have many others, we all remember the screaming that Rider fans used to do about the Esks "cheating" by spending way more money than the Riders could afford and how unfair it was. Now the tables are turned and the Riders are the ones spending like drunken sailors without a care in the world about the cap and Rider fans rush to defend it at every chance. It's the fact that the fan base are being giant hypocrites that people here are pointing out nothing more nothing less.I totally agree with the first part of your post, its the second part I disagree with. 100k is 2% of a 5 million dollar SMS. Drunken sailor is a bit of a stretch isn't it?It is when the Riders are the only team to over spend on a consistent basis. Considering the penalty is a fine it really is spending their way to the top. If it was wrong for Edmonton to do it back in the day when they had more money than the Riders it is just as wrong for the Riders to do it now that they actually have money. If Rider fans would simply accept that they're being hypocrites no one would care, but the fact that a lot of you try and justify it opens yourselves up to criticism. If Riders were over by a significant amount I could see your point but they were over be a rounding error in 2013 which is basically nothing. What speed limit do you drive at on a 100km/hr highway? Riders drove at about 100.1 km/hr. See, justifying it. This is why Rider fans are the joke of the league. two faced hypocrites. Need another Al Ford era, remind the fan base to be humble.
  16. I am as much a CFL fan as I am a Bomber fan, I'll watch anything CFL related and follow it all closely... but I don't give any kind of damn about the NFL. It's a horribly over hyped league and I quite frnakly resent it for taking attention away from the CFL. I don't know if it's just a Calgary phenomenon but it seems like the NFL is a bigger deal than the CFL here and I hate that more than words can say. I can not wait for the superb owl to be over with so we can stop hearing about that damned league all the time. Lots of other sports to focus on.
  17. ChickGeorge Emry Brackenridge Brown Maze Walker Harris Peters Legree, etc Defence is the least of the Riders worries. Why stop there? Why not list the entire roster and point out all the loaded positions on the team? That's what you really want to do right? Homers gonna be homers.

  20. Esk's payroll was two to three times what the other teams were paying. Comparing that to the current Riders spending less than 100k more than other teams is hilarious to say the least. How about the stamps paying Flutie one million a year, why don't we talk about that? Or the Argo with Rocket Ismail?"WE'RE NOT CHEATING AS BADLY AS OTHERS CHEATED!!!11!!!"don't ever change Rider fans, don't ever change. How do you think the Stamps can pay for 2 starter quality QBs, Cornish, Hughes, Lewis, Federkeil, Wall, Raymond, McDaniel, Simpson, etc?I swear some think the Riders are the only team that commands their star players to be paid top dollar. Uhhh I never said anything about their cap situation this year, I'm only pointing out the Riders history of being the only team to regularly go over the cap and the hypocrisy of Rider fans excusing the cheating their team does after railing against other teams so hard for over spending a lesser enforced cap in the past. Given that the RIders are the team that consistently over shoots the cap I don't think it's much of a stretch to say they're going to do it again with all the cash they're handing out.

  22. Where's the "I don't give a ****" option?
  23. It's good for the league that Canada's team is strong because it's what fans across the country want.
