  1. single people already have the greatest tax break in the world, no money pit kids.
  2. It's personal preference. I get the thinking behind income splitting, I just disagree. I think tax rates should be based on individuals, not households. For GST, I think the benefit of lowering it for individuals is pretty insignificant in comparison to the cost of lost revenue for the government. but why? The whole idea behind marriage in this day and age is to combine things, why not income? Why should a house hold with two people making $60k pay less taxes than a household with one person making $120k and the other making nothing? Until my paycheque shows more than just my name on it, it's individual income. Why should somebody making $120k, with a wife also making $120k, have to pay more taxes than another guy making $120k, but whose wife chose to stay home with the kids? It's an unnecessary tax break for people the Conservatives see as being part of their base. until you go to get a divorce and your wife gets half of it. That's the whole point of a marriage, it's two separate entities combining to be one entity. Income splitting just makes sense. two people making 120k should be paying more than one person making 120k and the other staying home because 240k is more than 120k. Come on Prentice, the math isn't that hard. There are limits on how much can be split so it's not a super rich tax break, the people who benefit the most are the middle class with one person working and the other not. It's a narrow focus but it's not a bad thing at all. The left only likes to ***** about it cause it is a tax cut and it is a revenue loss and they hate giving back to the people. They believe the people don't know how to take care of themselves and the government needs to do it for them.
  3. The best part of this tournament for Canada so far is that it's showing the rest of the country what Oiler fans already knew, that Taylor Hall is a ******* good player.
  4. But like it or not it's a choice some people make. The other side of the coin is the dirty granola eating tree hugger idea that the government should raise all the kids out there so that they can be indoctrinated into the socialist manifesto from an early age.

Why should a house hold with two people making $60k pay less taxes than a household with one person making $120k and the other making nothing? as for income tax vs sales taxes, sales taxes are more regressive and hurt low income earners more than income tax. I'd rather see more progressive income tax than sales taxes or user fees. The real benefit of a sales tax for a revenue generating tax is that there's less loop holes to exploit so they're more likely to be collected. I very much disagree with the idea that the solution to a budget deficit is to just raise revenue though. I think getting spending under control is a better solution than simply raising taxes to balance the budget.
  6. I agree that the senate does serve a purpose…but not the way it's being done now. BUT The Cons didn't do the best they could in Senate reform because despite appointing Senators that the Provinces have elected, they still have "appointed" Senators whenever they see fit. They were not alone in that practice, and that practice must stop…for true Senate reform. You can't just leave senate seats empty, they need to be filled and if the provinces can't be bothered to get off their asses and put senators on the ballot then what's to be done?
  7. abolishing the senate is a god damned stupid move. The upper house does serve a purpose, that's even completely ignoring how ******* impossible it would be to even try and abolish it. Here's the problem with senate reform, any kind of significant changes to the senate require changing the constitution, that require getting everyone, absolutely everyone together and agreeing to change the thing. They still haven't been able to get Quebec to agree to the thing in the first place, it's just too much of a quagmire to get into. The conservatives really did the best they could saying they would appoint elected senators.
  8. The bottom line is that whether or not you have anything to hide privacy should be protected by government rather than breached. When everyone in government is in favour of more invasion of that privacy though and people are so willingly giving up private information through the technology out there today how do you really stop it? I think it is going to take a decision from the courts to really put things in black and white.
  9. He hadn't signed a contract at the time of the CFL draft though. Drafted May 6th and signed with green bay on May 10th. Oh right. My mistake. I thought he had signed prior to the draft or it was well known he would There was NFL interest in Mulumba prior to the CFL draft. It was fairly well known that there was a strong possibility that Mulumba was going to Green Bay. Mack simply didn't think he would stick. He rolled the dice and lost. I still maintain that Mack was working off of inside knowledge from Dom Capers on Green Bay's interest in Mulumba. Mulumba at the end of the day beat the odds. He was not expected to stick, but he made the most of the opportunity. In a draft where pretty much all of the top rated players were getting NFL interest it wasn't a bad gamble to make. Can't be mad when the player rises to the challenge.
  10. You get a Canadian who can be a starter on D and not just a "well he's OK for a Canadian" starter it's worth it. They badly needed a guy like that on defence.
  11. I think that the anti-Harper crew have to play any card they have in the deck. In 2011 all I heard was that Harper was a Nazi who was going to make abortion and gay marriage illegal and stack the Supreme Court with right wing judges. Well none of that happened. They can't really say their guy is going to do a better job of managing the economy (well they can try, but no one is going to believe it) so all they have left is the fear card. According to the polls not too many are buying this. This new security bill is a bit of a head-scratcher. I don't now why Harper is doing this right now, but I guess I have nothing to hide so I don't really care. People went way too far demonizing Harper in his early days. It's happening again with Trudeau, only with different talking points. People are scared of what's new in politics. A few things I dislike about Harper: - the new security bill seems unconstitutional and overreaching for what a government should be able to keep secret - very little debate has been allowed in the house - He wanted to abolish the senate, but has since appointed more of them than any other pm in history - has very little use for the collectively bargained agreements with the Public servants that the government signed - the Supreme Court has had to slap him down several times, then had a little fit after his choice for judge was disallowed - lowering the GST and income splitting are bad ideas imo. - his views on pot - mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent crimes - wearing a Canada jersey instead of a Jets jersey Abolishing the senate was never a conservative goal, they wanted reform of the senate, specifically elected senators, and I do believe that Harper has appointed senators that provinces have actually elected so let's at least get the facts straight. income splitting isn't a bad idea either, it's a narrowly targeted tax break but I don't see an issue with that. Like the GST it's nice to see a government actually care about lowering the tax burden on the population.
  12. More importantly he's no Jonathan Toews. Switch the D corps for Chicago & Pittsburgh and Crosby is a multiple Stanley Cup champion. He's got 28 more playoff points in three less games. Chicago's forwards are better around him too, but the D is where the biggest difference is. Well Toews is a pretty big part of Chicago playing better defence too.... He's captain intangibles, obviously Crosby is going to score more points, Toews isn't that elite offensive guy, he's just the all around super complete player that everyone wins with because he does everything so well.
  13. Stupid knee jerk reactions like voting for the NDP? Rachel Notley??!?!??? *sour face*

I don't now why Harper is doing this right now, but I guess I have nothing to hide so I don't really care. I for sure fall to the right line of centre politically but the having nothing to hide rational is IMO a poor and dangerous one. This is a quote from Benjamin Franklin, but I think an appropriate one. Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. The problem is that the Liberals and Conservatives both support the spying bill, governments always want more power to spy.
  15. I am aware of that, but just pointing out that you should be able to construct a better argument, one that actually has some merit to it. Stop grabbing the low hanging fruit.
  16. A big part of Manitobas situation is because past NDP governments made it an unfriendly place to do business. The Alberta NDP campaigned on making corporations and specifically oil and gas companies pay more. They are actively looking to make it a less business friendly environment. Wish I was a teacher, then I'd be taken care of by the NDP. As it stands they're just going to tax me more, slow down an already slow oil field which means I'll earn less with less work, all in the name of someone else should pay for the spending. **** the NDP and their ass backwards ideals. Any stats to back that up? Manitoba has one of the strongest economies in the country. The recession barely hit us. the recession barely hit Manitoba because the economy is already the shits. If you seriously think Manitoba has a strong economy you are out to lunch. What Manitoba has is a stable economy because there isn't much to it. Doesn't have far to drop so a recession doesn't impact it like it would gigantic economies like Alberta or Ontario. Show me the stats. A stable economy isn't a bad thing. http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/the-manitoba-miracle/ No stable isn't a bad thing, just don't go around making ridiculous claims about Manitoba having a strong economy. Or do you think stable means strong? The nature of large booming economies is that they can fall. If Manitoba had one of the strongest economies in the country how come they're always a have not province?
  17. and this is exactly the bullshit I just said, you're bitching about bitching... but everyone in the NHL *******, yes even your god Toews will whine too. People decided they were going to roast Crosby over it though and it took on a life of it's own. It's the same with the whole idea that the Oilers young players can't play defense. It's this thing that took on a life of it's own and became taken as truth when it's really not. I'll listen to arguments that maybe Crosby doesn't step up enough when things really matter and that maybe he's been too injured in his career or that he's not as good as the hype makes him sound, but whining? Come on now, do better than that for criticism.

  19. Washington is a top end player, chances of him getting cut are pretty slim. The only way I see him getting cut is if he gets hurt in camp and someone steps in and does well on a cheaper salary. Sort of what happened to Suber last year.

  21. People whined about Crosby for the stupidest thing. "oh he's a whiner" seriously? Whining about whining? Come on you can come up with something better than that.
  22. The scariest part to me is how the NDP figures they should build refineries in Alberta and keep jobs local. It shows a complete and utter lack of understanding of the industry, but it's so typically NDP. Invest massive amounts of money into a low profit industry. Talk about a money pit. People actually believe that only "rich people" are going to see their taxes go up, hah! Not to mention that the oil industry doesn't take kindly to higher royalties and taxes, they'll play hard ball which affects the working stiffs in this province. The people who voted for them deserve this, I just hope they **** things up so badly in the next few years they render themselves un-electable ever again.
  23. If she and the rest of them hadn't crossed the floor they'd have won the election without question. People got fed up with the PCs and their arrogance and corruption but no one trusted the Wild Rose after that floor crossing. The Liberals were in shambles as well, the only protest vote was to the NDP. They best tread lightly though. They won a lot of seats by the right splitting a vote, if the right gets behind one party or the other it will swing back. I am so disappointed in this province. Seen the NDP **** up Manitoba, don't want to see the same out here.
  24. The didn't rush the movie out, Marvel has the timing of their films planned out years in advance. As for Stark vs. Pym creating Ultron I don't think that's a big deal. Sure it might anger the comic book purists, but in the cinematic universe Tony Stark is the resident mad scientist not Hank Pym so it's not a big deal. It would have been cool to do what Logan alluded to and have Tony tinker with something Pym started back in the day since he's older but it's not something that was really needed. Just have to accept that the movies are different than the books and ant man isn't a big deal in the movies at this point. It's very Tony Stark focussed in the movies, and to be more specific Robert Downey Jr. is so popular in his portrayal as Tony Stark and really did kick off this whole enterprise he rightly is the guy who is front and centre of the whole thing.
