Yep, the people who scream the loudest about needing guns to protect from a tyrannical government are quite happy with the Republicans acting all authoritarian. No what this comes down to is small weak individuals who need to feel powerful by having a gun.

I always chuckle at the projection these people engage in.

The confederates haven't changed. Perhaps they were playing the long game. They are effectively in control of the whole USA now.

It's pretty galling. But republican voters are complete sheep. They rage against the coastal elites all the time so naturally their lord and savior is a billionaire from new York who lives in a tower and sits on a gold toilet... I just don't understand the mental gymnastics people go through to justify their racism and bigotry.

Yeah what is that in reference to anyway? Is he talking about the lunatics who think immunity passports should be a thing? Cause that won't happen.
  6. 17to85 replied to Rich's topic in General Discussion
Funny how that works when there is widespread obstruction of justice huh?
  7. 17to85 replied to Rich's topic in General Discussion
Given that everything Trump says is projection he is just admitting that he is a treasonous bastard.

God do all you right wing nutters have meetings to get your talking points straight? Cause I swear it's always the exact same arguments from every one of you. Sweden is in no way shape or form an example that the USA could ever follow. Sweden is a small socialist country. They have a robust social safety net and well funded health care system... and they are still have issues no matter how much anyone wants to pretend they aren't. The USA meanwhile has pay to play Healthcare and sweet **** all for a social safety net. If they just let er buck with this virus it would be devastating to them because such a large portion of their population lacks access to Healthcare to start with. In the States someone could go bankrupt having to go to the hospital as easily as they could "suffering" through a lockdown. It is high time people stop looking at things like this in terms of it just being about covid-19. All cover has done is peel back the layers and expose which countries have shitty governments and systems in place. It's why I don't like the "but unemployment will kill more people!!1!" Nonsense that gets tossed around. It's up to governments to support their people through this making the conclusions null and void unless the government does nothing. In which case it isn't the virus that is the problem, it's uncaring government content to get rich off the plebs and if they die so be it, it was so a bunch of already rich people could get just a tiny bit richer. That is the real issue being exposed here. As a nation we can afford to take measures to slow the spread of this virus AND support people financially through it. It's not an either or choice. As I have said for ever, we aren't trying to stop this thing, only slow it down enough so that people don't have to die unnecessarily because too many people got sick at once. Herd immunity isn't something that only happens if everyone gets infected at once, it will happen as more people are exposed, which will naturally happen with a slow, phased re-opening of things. We take our time getting back to normal, we can care for the ones who get sick and still get that herd immunity (if it's something that lasts. These things mutate fast enough a new strain could show up in a few years that we don't have the resistance to.

Not who, how. The language used is always a dead give away. And both sides do that garbage so this isn't some anti right wing tirade here. I just can't stand the weaponization of news that has taken place.

The piece I took was from the current review. Here is what you are missing, facts can be presented in misleading ways. Facts should be neutral. There is a quote I love about statistics but it applies here too I feel: Statistics are only as useful as the person interpreting them. Like I said, it's another form of dishonesty. Leading people down a path by telling them how to interpret things.

OK but is the analysis I posted wrong? Because I drew that conclusion just reading the initial article. They take real things and present it in a biased way. It's just another form of dishonesty that as your link here shows, they can hide behind and say "see!! Totally legit" I have said too many times in this thread that people need to cultivate the ability to discern whether information is factual on their own rather than being led around by others pushing their own agenda.

For discussion purposes : the trustworthiness of your website lists them as the following: RIGHT-CENTER BIAS These media sources are slightly to moderately conservative in bias. They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor conservative causes. These sources are generally trustworthy for information, but may require further investigation. See all Right-Center sources.
  13. Last night I turned on the TV and watched bit of sports net replaying the 89 and 93 Stanley cup finals. It was kind of reassuring to even hear the crowd noises again. Really missing the sports.

I read it on the internet it must be true! I think a lot people want that vaccine because it would simplify things immensely. But this will not carry on indefinitely.
  15. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
honestly shocked he hasn't caught it already. 1
  16. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
A vaccine is a nice dream, but there is no guarantees it will be effective. This virus already shows a propensity to mutate. Most likely outcome is that this turns out like the flu where it's always out there lurking but enough people have some antibodies and we learn more effective treatments that it is not a pandemic. Honestly it isn't the most deadly disease and a big majority of people don't wind up needing treatment to get over it... it's just that right now everyone is vulnerable and our bodies have no defenses to it so we get huge infection rates which is the real danger.
  17. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
I don't know if that's true to be honest. There will come a point where things will return to normal with or without a vaccine. This has never been about stopping the spread, it has been an exercise in slowing the spread so we can treat the people who need it.
  18. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
It's another stupid as **** argument anyway. It's a brand new disease, no **** doctors are still trying to figure out the beat way to treat it. Another reason flattening the curve has merit! Buy time for doctors to learn how best to treat patients! Like **** do these people understand anything?
  19. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't matter if it's a low death rate if THIS MANY PEOPLE CONTRACT THE DISEASE. IT WILL LEAD TO A LOT OF DEATHS! This thing spread like wildfire, that's pretty demonstrable. Some people are just either too stupid to understand or too uncaring of their fellow human beings. Or both.

See they think that means they're doing proper research. I had to dig deep to find this! That must mean I'm more informed!
