Play Calling & Offensive Schemes
The key is first down production, good first down play calls and execution. I like that we are running frequently enough to make other teams respect it, I like that the screen game is being featured, this is important because Nichols is not a quick release guy, most of the screens allowing our OL to tee off and our YAC guys to get loose, I like that we are running much less empty backfield than the first few weeks of the season and also split backs which holds the opposing SAM and WIL eyes to the backfield leaving more space for our receivers to work in the mid range game. Seems to me that avoiding the big turnovers against is key. Our two losses featured major turnovers that directly led to points. As long as they avoid those and produce steadily they have a great chance to win any game.

He's pretty good at blitzing, but he's not a defensive end so we need him to be able to cover and tackle in the open field.

It doesn't matter. That's reality. The only guy who plays every down in the front seven is Leggett.

Matt Nichols, Elite quarterback?
Dave Mudge? He was brutal from 2005 on, as a Bomber and Alouette.

Bruce Johnson Released
I'm not sure Johnson had a job to lose. Sounds like he was beat out and the injury gave him a chance to stick around.

Matt Nichols, Elite quarterback?
Elite possession protector with no fear, which is a huge step from where he was when the Bombers acquired him. He doesn't have the skill of Mitchell, Reilly, Jennings. He can beat them by playing smart. When he tries to go toe to toe with those guys it ends badly, see the Calgary game. Needs to be a hell of a lot more consistent before this conversation can even happen. The stretches of games where they can't even get first downs let alone score just can't happen. Looked better last week.

Addison Richards Retires
But he went to Oklahoma. He's gotta be better than some CIS dud.

Should start calling players for Obj conduct who can't keep their helmets on. Tighten up your chinstrap.

Getting outcoached every week. Huge factor in 1-5-1.

McDuffie did as much as our return men to help us pull that one out with some brutal decisions. What a bonehead!

Commissioner gets it right
That game was a rout. Challenges/reviews would have had zero impact on that. Wait until a 20-17 game where there's a blatant missed call on the drive that would have turned the outcome.

The best system IMO is the NCAA one which relies on the booth to initiate reviews with coaches given minimal challenges. I'd like to see the CFL move to that. They don't call down to the field every five plays, but it gives the league a mechanism to get it right even if it isn't a scoring play or turnover. Also I forgot to add my time limit which is 60 seconds to review and 90 total to have a decision to the field otherwise call on the field stands.

Here's my proposal: -Up to 3 coaches challenges per team. If a coach loses a challenge, they are done for the game. Need a timeout to challenge. If a coach tosses a challenge flag to challenge something that isn't reviewable they are done, lose their timeout and are assessed a 10 yard objectionable conduct penalty. -Coaches can challenge anything but penalties. -Review of penalties (PI, illegal contact, UR, RTP) can only be initiated by the Command Centre. -The Command Centre can initiate a review (not just scores/turnovers) at any time to correct significant on-field missed calls, wrong calls and improper application of rules.

Commissioner gets it right
Kind of a silly position IMO. Used to finish a game concussed too, or play the next one. If there is a tool to prevent or fix HUGE mistakes, why wouldn't they use it? They should use it, they just have to refine the process and close the loopholes. Maybe broadcasting the games is bringing too much scrutiny. Radio only, like the good ol' days.
