  2. I still remember attending a job fair in 1989 and Sylvia Kuzyk was just sitting in the CKY booth with no one around her, so a friend and I went over and talked to her, though we were kind of in awe of talking to a celebrity who was on TV! Anyway, she told us that if we went to Red River college and took broadcasting, we had a chance to be broadcasters one day, and follow in the steps of their latest new young broadcasting star who she said had potential to one day be a national broadcaster. That man's name was of course, Rod Black.
  3. Not it love with LaPo, but always thought he took a lot more heat than deserved for the Bombers' failures. He inherited an absolute mess from Mike Kelly, who ran both Doug Berry and Brendan Taman out of town and then dismantled the team and its reputation with his antics. Has a tough first year with a record number of close losses, and has the wherewithal to recognize his biggest failing as a coach, which is self-admitted micromanagement. Improves in that area next year, and really thanks to the fact that Buck Pierce actually stayed healthy gets to the Grey Cup. Then is forced to start 4 in a row on the road and loses his QB again, and is starting to claw back at 2-6 when he gets blind-sided by Mack. Everyone who blamed LaPo rejoices for about a week until the next game, when 52-0 in Saskatchewan highlights that the problem wasn't the coach, it was his boss and how the team was (so very poorly) built. But too many on the boards had invested their credibility in praising mighty Joe in the wake of Mike Kelly's poor showing, so they bought into the "LaPo as incompetent" theory and began repeating it ad nauseum to deflect from their misguided assessment of Joe Mack's uselessness. I liked Lapo but man was he a chicken-****. I still remember the Lions game that got him fired. I was sitting a few rows behind the Bomber bench. Elliott kept coming off the field and slamming his helmet down because he was frustrated at the play calling as Lapo kept calling draw plays on second down in the red zone to ensure that we got a field goal, instead of going for the TD. And we lost by one point. No killer instinct.
  4. Something tells me that you would have a completely different opinion if you were asked to comment in the presence of said Mr. Walby...
  5. One of my favorite Don Wittman calls of all time. Ellett lets it go - SCORES! Don wasn't a homer by any stretch, but you could sure tell how pumped he was when Ellett popped this OT goal against the Oilers....brings a tear to the eye.
  6. Yeah but what does Montreal know about winning....oh right.
  7. Yeah exactly. If Dunigan started sounding like hoser instead of a hillbilly, he would be far less entertaining.
  8. Why does Marty Biron have such an outrageous French accent on TSN? He's lived in Canada his whole life!
  9. Yes Don Wittman was from Winnipeg. He's the one who convinced Walby to be a color guy.http://itvideo.me/watch/?v=NJNW-1TVcSY http://youtu.be/3W7SbgP2_20 RIP Don.
  10. 20 years ago maybe but Cole is an old man now and can't keep up with the play, he spends most of the games now hoping that he is sitting in the pie. Yeah Cole is so past his prime, it's not even funny. He's got to retire. Sadly, whichever yahoo who replaces him won't be any better. It's just disgusting. I can't stand listening to Randorf call a game. It's like what I imagine the sound of paint drying sounds like.
  11. a guy behind me at McMahon was talking about this. I hadn't heard the rumour yet, but apparently Lapo's been contacted and told to sit tight....barring a monster comeback by the Riders on the season, Lapo's packing his bags... LaPo's lost his mind if he willingly leaves his job at TSN to step into that hornets nest. Maybe he's attracted by the concept of leading a team that only loses every game by three points. I've never seen a coach better at that then Lapo.
  12. Well he has won 100% more games than Brohm. But other than that...
  13. From hell's heart I stab at thee!!!!

  15. Isn't he on a bye this week?
  16. Yeah. Our traffic is worst in the nation right now. We're expecting to add a Winnipeg to our population in the next couple decades and we're absolutely terrible at building infrastructure. We're replacing a downtown viaduct with a boondoggle waterfront tunnel that was conceived by the creationist goofballs at the Discovery Institute. Our geography is awful for traffic, we're nothing but hills and lakes, so traffic is funneled onto a few choked thoroughfares. On top of that, we have no effective mass transit system. Our one downtown-airport train line covers maybe 5% of the population. When we bought our house last year, I made damn sure it was located on that train line. It's like iso said, any NHL team here would have transportation issues playing weeknight games. (sorry to rant but holy crap Seattle is bad at transportation and infrastructure.) Went to a Seahawks game in 2012. Never driving again! What a disaster.

  18. Here's something to put the drought into perspective - I was watching the 1990 Grey Cup game the other day, and Rod Connop was playing on the Edmonton offensive line in that game. In the first game of the season this year, the Bombers faced Rory Connop, Rod's son, who is a rookie on the Rider defensive line. Rory was born on December 27, 1990. Since the last time the Bombers won a Grey Cup, Rod Connop had a son, that son grew up, and is now playing in the CFL. It just boggles the mind.
  19. I hate to admit it, but ISO was probably right to continue harping on about how we should have hired Higgins. A little grey hair on the sidelines would sure go a long way right now (or bald scalp in the case of Higgins). That being said, how old was Bud Grant or Mike Riley when they took over the reins?
  20. I hear what you are saying. I was rewarded early on in my Bomber experience by the 1984 Grey Cup win, but before that, going back to the late 70's, the Bombers were always competitive and good, and it was only because of those bleepin' Eskimos that the Grey Cup win didn't come sooner for me. The fans going to those games in the 1980's were still fans that remembered the Kenny Ploen Bud Grant dynasty days, like my dad, so there was still a lot of passion. That passion has definitely waned, and it's due to the fact that Bombers have been so bad for so long. There are no memories for the younger crowd of days of yore when the Bombers would go out and just beat the snot out of other teams.
  21. you are being way too positive. I want to say "there's no such thing.." but..........Spuds......... Yeah Spuds takes it to an all new level. About half-way to Rider-ville. Spuds is the Moosomin of Bomber fans.
  22. Are we so far gone as a country that only Saskatchewan maintains sane voters? So sane that they elected an MP who believes that children ought to carry guns to school. When I was in grade five I brought my pappy's shot-gun to school, and the principal called me in to the office. To show me his 12 gauge and compare notes on different types of ammo.
