Lock of the Week 3 Results (Week 4 Entries)
bluto replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
just got home... game is 3 plays old... not sure if i can have Coombs or not... if not, i'll take Anthony Parker. -
i've a bad feeling about this game against the Horseys that i can't shake. something about a team with talent as deep as theirs that is coached by Huf, **** and Stubes is just daunting. edit... i guess i shouldn't have abbreviated "Dickenson"

as much as i'd hate it, i could see him in Hamilsmell if the TiCats flounder and Austin goes. Except he is still under contract here. Best case scenario, is he continues on the same trajectory he has started on, brings Winnipeg its first Grey Cup in 20+ years, is given the keys to the city, streets named after him and hailed as a football god here. As O'Shea bonds to the city, the players, and what he is building here, he doesn't strike me as the type to just leave that to go home unless something goes horribly wrong. Worst case scenario is he flames out and gets uncerimoniously fired. I don't think this is the direction we are trending. With the current head office the Bombers have, I would bet on Austin being fired before O'Shea. he and his wife and all of their roots are from here. he'll be back.

this story doesn't surprise me even a little. i tried to explain to the few Bomber fans that didn't want O'Shea (or preferred another guy) what they were getting... what KBF said is pretty much bang on: it's an obsessive drive to win. win every drill, win every practice, win every meeting, win every play, win every quarter, win every game, etc, etc... and when you combine that with a deep understanding of the CFL game (as evidenced by his gadget plays which are often exploits of our rules), unshakeable confidence, and his general positive outlook he just had winner written all over him. i've told this tidbit a few times but to me it is the ultimate encapsulation of what Osh is: he once stated that he had been a player for 15 years and had won 3 Grey Cups... that means that he had failed 12 times out of 15. most outstanding rookie... 4 all-star nods... 2nd in all time tackles... doesn't matter. no Grey Cup = failure. and yeah, part of wanting him to succeed is selfishness so that when some NFL team swoops in and takes Milanovich and Barker retires, the two southern Ontario boys stuck in Manitoba can come home.

Lock of the Week Resuts 1+2 Week (Week 3 entries)

Coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooombs -
Tom Brady told a story about how Bishop threw 90 yards from his knees at a Patriots practice while the team cheered him on and took bets on the distance and Brady was like "I'm behind this guy on the depth chart? dang I'm never going to play..."
-
That's what people all "knew" about Khalif Mitchell last year, who was a model teammate.

another problem-child-project for Pinball. this is kinda our specialty. i think that DA may have some good football still in him and he may (especially a couple of weeks from now in the Rectangle) play like he has something to prove.
-
Shame. The guy has been snakebit with injuries for his whole collegiate and pro career. Very glad Barker traded up for the 3rd pick.
-
watch it again. especially the 3rd quarter. he was the main reason that Willy was getting drilled. Osh was there when Milanovich cut Boyd. i'm certainn that the lesson wasn't lost on him.

made this same point in the chat last night. agree with 17 that Grigsby may continue to eat up yardage, but he's going to get your pivot killed. you finally have one worth building around, don't let a few rushing yards (which Bellefeuille turned away from in the 3rd quarter for some reason and Ottawa's D tee'd off on Willy) make you lose sight of protecting your #1. (great chat btw everyone!... except idiotic non sequiturs from road griller... Mike how come blocking him doesn't work in chat? several of us had the same isue)
-
Going with Jeremiah Johnson again. (love that JFG has a few picks! glad to see that kid get a break)

all part of the dance. Rogers is just using their approved channel (McCown) to fire another warning shot across the Feds and League's bows. The part of BMO that could make it CFL-adaptable wouldn't have to be started on until almost the end of the renovation as a whole (think like 2016). figures and timetables have been pretty much agreed to between the team, MLSE, city and province... this last bit is the prospective owner trying to squeeze a bit more out of the Feds and league (as is their right and frankly they are smart to do it now) i honestly feel like there's nothing to see here.

don't. this is the dawn of the rebuild that the Bombers should have begun several years ago. the Wade/Kyle/Osh thing needs a year to gain traction and momentum. yeah, i know you've heard that refrain several times over the last 2 decades... and that the emotional stamina required to willingly get on the same roller coaster that has made you nauseous over and over is immense (i am a Leaf fan after all)... but the aggregate of the Bomber's moves since Miller came on board (and put Walters in place, and hired O'Shea and allowed him to have a dozen other coaches) has got to have you looking at the team's trajectory and believing in it. (heck... i do) Bluto, I see this as a team that wins 5-6 but is competitive, Willy establishes himself as a legit starting QB, Gossen and Neufeld become good NI pieces on the OL and we start building a nase. You? yeah, 5-7 sounds right. and i've said elsewhere that you may have to wait for a few of those until the arse end of the schedule when your remaining opponents have already clinched. my hope is that Willy gets at least 14 starts and progresses as the year goes on.

my pick is on page 1, but the post didn't put the time that i edited it... so this post is to confirm that post's time.

You're too quick to judge. And too lazy to read the thread, lol.. He did take it to some odd places tho in that rant.. And I hope he squatted behind the CFL merch section in the Bomber store and did a dookie. Why do I hope this? Because it's the internet! Wheeeeeee! i thought that doing that in mall plant-boxes was the local custom in Winnipeg...

i love how the Rider "faithful" have conveniently forgotten that many were hoping for a new QB well into mid season when Sheets went down and Durant looked very ordinary... ah, revisionism... they're so blinkered with their fanboyism that they can't see the plain truth: if other QBs played like Ray did last season (nearly 80% completion and a 126 efficiency) that it would effectively "break" football. they'd have to change rules to try and re-balance the game.
-
*ahem*

Ray is obviously #1 (it ain't even close)... but i reckoned that the facts that Cornish is National and had such a big season would have iced it for him.
