I appreciate the confidence that 7 of you are showing in the Boatmen and we are a tough team to beat on the natural grass of BMO... But we are very banged up for a week 4 matchup and having already had a bye week. Both Tackles are questionable and we don't have any identifiable backups aside from the veteran Canadian Landon Rice who we just brought in this week. Ciraco is also out. Brinkman is questionable. Ka'Deem is questionable. Brissett is out. Daniels, Ungerer, Mital and Flo Orimalade are on the 6 game... I'm not seeing it this week. Especially with our new defence exposing our rookie corners that have no backups and we've 2 less days to prepare than the Als. EDIT: and who are the 4 of you who are taking 0-3 Edmonton going cross-country on a short week to play in BC? Did you tap your screen on the wrong circle by accident?
-
Yeah, played well and now appears listed on the PR. No idea. Maybe Herslow got his spot?
-
It's only week 3, but Qb efficiency is off the scale so far this year. Usually it's the defences that start strong.
-
More concerned over us having 2 rookies at corner and NO BACKUPS. So when Benjie Franklin was getting killed by MacBeth, we couldn't even sit him to let him watch and figure it out. And let's be fair, Cody's next bad outing this season will be his first one.
-
AFAIK, his big lump sum was already paid, so hypothetically, dropping him would be after this season... and the Argos end up with a net savings. But Dukes needs to keep this up for awhile yet before that'd become a reality (or even a possibility). I'm not fussed over it because: i) Like I had said, it's a great problem to potentially have, and ii) I'm more concerned about Montreal and whether or not there's any way that we can stop Fajardo from ritualistically sacrificing our rookie cornerbacks this Friday.
-
Philpot. I've seen nothing from our pass defence that gives me any confidence that we can keep him out of the End Zone.
-
You mistake me good Sir. If The Duke of York plays well enough for the Scullers to lay out that sort of cabbage, it will be an either-or proposition.
-
Frontline CFL QB money is $400k+ Nailed-on star CFL QB money is $600k No reason to expect that the Argos couldn't or wouldn't do that when it makes sense.
-
If Dukes can maintain this level of play, it'll be an awful nice problem to have.

Grant and Haggerty flipped the field for us. I saw someone around here opine that he looked like he'd lost a step... I've seen him in camp, practice and games... That guy's speed just jumps at you. Astonishing.

Go to the game. Win or lose that's your club. You've stuck by them through worse when they had no hope. This year, they may actually pull their heads out and be a veteran team that comes together for a late run. As for the 18 time Champions: our rookies at corner are getting torched. And until they figure it out, we literally have no backups for them on the depth chart. This is a big issue. Great athletes... But MBT (who we have to say can still zip that ball) took advantage of them all night. Edit to add: I'd be remiss if I didn't give laurels to Cameron Dukes. 18/21 and two of those weren't misses, they were throwaways. And he's a murderer in the Red Zone.

CFL - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

I know what you're saying Mike, but... We excellent depth at defensive tackle. We have zero depth at corner and at OT. Right now if we had someone go down in those positions we'd be taking someone already on our depth chart and sliding them over. Sometimes you've just got to churn the roster. -

Honestly, from a roster standpoint we need a Corner or OT way more than we need DT depth. I reckon that's where Oak's salary goes. It hurts a bit, but you make the smart choices, not the ones that feel good. -

My guess is that his replacement got sacks against BC. -
I was pretty sure that we brought him in last year before the season so that'd mean he was due for free agency after this year? (Hence my earlier comment about hating to see him in Black and Yellow next season)
-
Tangentially speaking, this question is precisely why I think that Dukes won't raise a fuss if he is shown the bench after The Chad returns. He and his agent know that they're auditioning for one of those big $400k+ starter QB deals when his current contract expires.
-
The comfortable lead they had was (imo) a mirage. They got 14 points in about 30 seconds from a ridiculous coverage bust where 3 Lions were behind our defence for the easiest TD of all time, then Dukes tried to free himself when he was wrapped up and it cost us 7 more. Take those 2 TDs off BC's tally - which I don't, because that isn't how football works - and this was a blowout.

Argo Bye-Week... so I'll take AJ punching one in against the Tabbies.

Don't get me wrong, young Mr. Dukes had a great night. He spread the ball around and got everyone involved. Looks dangerous doing option-y stuff. There's maybe only 1 or 2 throws that I haven't seen him make. And he seemed to stay composed after that attempt to break a tackle that caused a BC fumble/scoop/score. 21/27 with 3 through the air and 1 on the ground is a great night for anybody, let alone a kid who looks like he should be on an clearasil advert. But Kelly is the MOP. He pushes the ball deep and accurate and has a fear-factor about him. Even if Dukes continues this form for a 9 game stint, you can't drop a star QB1 when you're trying to get back to BC in mid November. Quarterbacks get broken, and if we end up having the luxury of 2 starters on our gameday roster I can't see any decisions about that being made while the season is still going.
-
Kelly will have the starting spot waiting for him in week 12 at home against the Riders. (and in fairness to Chungh, he won't be against Ceresna/Brinkman/Flo/Smith every week... those guys + Oakman will likely make a few O-Lines have a rough night)
-
No Kelly, Picket, Ouelette, Hendrix, Peters, Stiggers, Bede, Leake, Gittens... and we beat the team that has been the fashionable pick to be in a home Grey Cup. Dukes is a cool customer. It'll suck seeing him in Black and Yellow next year lol.

He'll be receiving a baptism by fire. They will stack up on him and send the blitzes and chase him all over while in zero. If he can't make a long completion or two to keep a defence honest, it could get rough. Yes we have a running game, veteran receivers and the best O-Line in the league, but it will be all for nothing if Dukes can't push the ball downfield and exploit the man and zero that he'll inevitably see (or at a bare minimum, make oppositions think that he could). Arbuckle appears to be our current #2. Yes, Kelly will play. And he'll set decibel records for how loud he gets booed in each away game. Argos need 4 or 5 wins during the MOP's suspension in order to have a realistic shot at 1st. It's doable. This is a very talented roster... but we have question marks in depth that we haven't had in awhile. Specifically: I have no idea who our backup Tackle would be. At this point it looks like we'll slide Hunter over if needed. Who are our backup Corners? Our American receiver list is thin too (and I note that Coxie has a hamstring niggle this week). All in all, it is very un-Argolike to not have the answers to the depth questions carved in stone. Maybe signings are already planned and because we don't get our QB1 back for 9 games, we're in no rush? IDK. -
2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News

That surely would've been optimal for the player, club and league... but not for the complainant. They would obviously have been best served by using the media and the CFL investigation as a big stick to maximize their settlement. Can't fault them for using the tools available to them. Smart.
