2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread
Tony Fresco replied to TBURGESS's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2024/11/22/loyal-and-stubborn-to-the-end Finally there is someone looking for accountability in the media. Hamilton in today's Free Press states "O’Shea’s tunnel vision cost Big Blue big time" -
St Louis might be an option. He was a player there and spent some time as assistant coach as well. Also, I believe his wife is from there.

Puljujärvi is 26 years old. No longer a prospect. Time to start producing. Good start to the year for him, albeit in a small sample size.

Jets Preseason Thread 2024 edition
Tony Fresco replied to iHeart's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I think McGroarty is most likely destined to be a winger. he's a gritty net front presence with good puck instincts, but not fast enough, nor a strong enough puck distributor to play center. -
Might impact the Stamps, who could move into a playoff spot next week with a victory over the Riders and a Blue wins over the Elks.

100% agree the media drooling over Rourke make it easy to cheer against him. However, I don't quite understand all the flack he has taken for his "unforeseen detour" comment. He's never said it was an unfortunate detour, only an unexpected one.

SNF: Elsks (??) @ (formerly) Bo-less Tabbies
Tony Fresco replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Sure. I'm not saying he's the saviour. We do know he ran a successful business for decades, and was able to sell it to have enough capital to take this on. Likely deserves a chance to be judged on his actions and results rather than a 60 second video clip. -
SNF: Elsks (??) @ (formerly) Bo-less Tabbies

We're so quick to judge based on appearances. Maybe he's just not accustomed to being interviewed on a national TV broadcast. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/cfl-s-edmonton-elks-announce-alberta-businessman-larry-thompson-new-owner-1.7295612 Per this article, He is a life long fan of the team and a season ticket holder since 1972. Also .. "There's no doubt that Larry's more comfortable on a road-building project, or working on his hobby with his antique cars and motorcycles, or actually sitting here as a fan in row one. But now he's the owner of a CFL franchise." -
I got Starlink for up at the cottage. Love it. Get speeds of just over 200 Mbps. The hardware deal makes it a no brainer.

Some insight from Sheldon Kennedy on what Bowman has done since leaving the Hawks. https://thehockeynews.com/news/sheldon-kennedy-of-respect-in-sports-group-reflects-on-his-work-with-stan-bowman. "I was immediately struck by Stan’s genuine care and concern for Kyle, and what could have been done differently," Kennedy said. "During that period, we spoke almost daily about the seriousness of sexual abuse from the victim’s perspective. We didn’t talk about hockey at all. We focused on what went wrong, what he could have done differently and, most importantly, what could be done to prevent this from happening again." Kennedy said Bowman's desire to acknowledge his mistakes and make amends with Beach were sincere and that he volunteered nearly full-time hours to help develop the Respect Charter and workshop curriculums. He added Bowman also co-facilitated the Respect Charter session at Trinity Western University in British Columbia and met with Beach, who attended the workshops and discussed their realities. "Stan’s acceptance, open mindedness, and understanding were huge difference makers in building this workshop," Kennedy said. Near the end of his letter, Kennedy said he believes Bowman "would be a valuable asset to an organization due to his acknowledgment of past mistakes and his relentless efforts to make the locker room/game safer for everyone. "Lastly and most importantly, I feel that Stan will do everything in his power to make sure what happened to Kyle Beach (who is a hero in my opinion) will not happen to anyone else," he added. ________ I respect Kennedy's perspective on this topic. Perhaps Bowman has realized some personal growth in his time away.

Not sure how reliable that source is, but I don;t mind that deal. Tuch at 6/4 220, is made for playoff truculence, just hasn't had a chance to participate in it. 28 years old with 1 year to UFA. Same situation as Ehlers. Call that a straight up swap, Iafallo for a 2nd is more than fair value. It's almost a cap dump as he was playing 4th line in the playoffs at a $4M price tag and doesn't have the greatest foot speed. Not sure why Buffalo would be interested, They have one of the smallest forward prospect pools (height-wise) and Ehlers is another smaller, slight framed forward, while Tuch is a Buffalo-area native.

Nashville is warmer climate and Tax free state. Or you can come to Winnipeg.

Underrated band. but Barstool Prophets were actually from Cornwall.

If Colorado goes to the final this year, then 5 of the last 6 teams to eliminate the Jets will have gone to the Stanley Cup Final. The three you mentioned plus Montreal in the bubble, St L in their cup year and Vegas in their first season. The only exception would be Calgary in 2019-20, which technically we missed the playoffs, finishing 9th in the conference in the COVID shortened season and lost to them in the play-in round.

Founding guitarist of Whitesnake, Bernie Marsden has passed at age 72.

Auston Matthews extended 4 x $13.25M. That's a big number. Locked up until age 30. https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1694459265061097713?s=20

Big loss for Sabres fans and the hockey world in general. Listened to many of his calls on Centre Ice before Jets returned as the Sabres had became my adopted team. RIP RJ!
-
He also played 20 games for Vancouver last year. .882 save percentage. I'd say it's likely a lateral move from big save Dave.

Jets had one year of control left a month ago, but Dubois, as an RFA did not yet have a contract for next year so there is no deal to be voided. Also, the Jets did not retain any salary in this deal. LA is on the hook for the whole shebang. The return was larger (i.e. the 3 players plus a pick) as PLD is now locked into for 8 years instead of the uncertainty of only having 1 year of control prior to UFA status.

If you are into high end single malt scotch, shop outside of Manitoba.

Here's another angle. You can clearly see the force that the Jets fan went into the Dasher with from maybe 3-5 stairs up. Brutal!
-
Haven’t seen a roster posted yet, but these NCAA players won’t be there unless they pay their own way. If the team paid their travel, etc, they would lose their amateur status. Such an archaic rule.
-
Never mind on Zach Aston-Reese. Toronto signed him to a PTO today.
-
I would be happy to bring in a Rodrigues or a Zach Aston-Reese to solidify the bottom 6, especially on a 1-yr, cheap contract .
