  1. Founding guitarist of Whitesnake, Bernie Marsden has passed at age 72.
  2. Auston Matthews extended 4 x $13.25M. That's a big number. Locked up until age 30. https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1694459265061097713?s=20
  3. Big loss for Sabres fans and the hockey world in general. Listened to many of his calls on Centre Ice before Jets returned as the Sabres had became my adopted team. RIP RJ!
  4. He also played 20 games for Vancouver last year. .882 save percentage. I'd say it's likely a lateral move from big save Dave.
  5. Jets had one year of control left a month ago, but Dubois, as an RFA did not yet have a contract for next year so there is no deal to be voided. Also, the Jets did not retain any salary in this deal. LA is on the hook for the whole shebang. The return was larger (i.e. the 3 players plus a pick) as PLD is now locked into for 8 years instead of the uncertainty of only having 1 year of control prior to UFA status.
  6. If you are into high end single malt scotch, shop outside of Manitoba.
  7. Here's another angle. You can clearly see the force that the Jets fan went into the Dasher with from maybe 3-5 stairs up. Brutal!
  8. Haven’t seen a roster posted yet, but these NCAA players won’t be there unless they pay their own way. If the team paid their travel, etc, they would lose their amateur status. Such an archaic rule.
  9. Never mind on Zach Aston-Reese. Toronto signed him to a PTO today.
  10. I would be happy to bring in a Rodrigues or a Zach Aston-Reese to solidify the bottom 6, especially on a 1-yr, cheap contract .
  11. McGroarty was captain of the US National Dev Team that plays against USHL and NCAA team's during the year. He wasn't on the roster of last December WJC team. https://teamusa.usahockey.com/2021wjcroster [edit: I'm now questioning if that is the right roster, as Zegras was in NHL last year.] [edit #2 - found the boxscore from the first game US played of the canceled tournament - McGroarty was not on the roster. https://www.tsn.ca/world-juniors/event/united-states-slovakia-20211226?event_id=184490]] This month's games are attempt #2 to complete that tournament and can include players now over 20 that would have been eligible back in Dec/Jan. I would expect McGroarty to make this coming December's team.
  12. Sounds like he is working with figure skater Barbara Underhill to work on his skating. At least he knows what he needs to improve.
  13. They already have, at least partially. Last night they were wearing a jersey that had a Manitoba Moose knock-off logo. I'm not aware if the old one has been mothballed entirely or not. The old one still seems to be front & center on the WHL site.
  14. The bolded comments above are a bit of a contradiction in my mind. A difference of just around $750K between what his stats would dictate and his actual contract is more than made up for in the intangibles he brings to the team (leadership, size, grit, work ethic, etc).
  15. Because this team will not win anything as long as it tolerates mediocrity, and it starts each game with the national anthem.
  16. Agree. He's a high potential, high first round pick, and even though he improved as the season went on, he did not dominate the NCAA like a KC did in his one year. He also made this decision later than most, plus his little brother who is 2022 draft eligible, was going to join the Gophers next seasons. Makes me wonder a little if he was struggling academically, or some other reason behind this. Most likely spends a couple years with the Moose to continue developing.
  17. Lane Lambert is an interesting name on that list. He was in the Nashville organization as the head coach in Milwaukee, then became an assistant to Trotz and seems to have followed him to both Washington and the Island. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2931 If Trotz is not made available to the market, Lambert might be the next best thing. As for the rest of the list, I think I'd rather go with some up and comer than a re-tread. How many of us knew much about Jon Cooper before he was hired by the Lightning?
  18. Don't know a lot about him, but decent production this year.
  19. The original premise was that the Jets were the worst at drafting and developing d-men. The analysis was meant to demonstrate that simply isn't the case. As for Poolman, a bottom pairing d-man is still a legit NHL d-man, and he has a 4-year, $10M contract to support that. Also development doesn't only happen once a player reaches the Moose or the Jets. The team's development personnel work with the players on fitness programs, nutrition, etc even when they are playing in the NCAA. I believe one of the reasons the Jets have a good draft record is because of the focus they have put into the development side with guys like Jimmy Roy and Mike Keane.
  20. No, your healthy scratch is being replaced by a d-man we drafted - Samberg. It is an interesting topic. The Jets have drafted and developed 3 legit D-men (Morrissey/Trouba/Poolman) and 3 marginal/potential d-men (Stanley, Heinola and Samberg). In that time, they have only drafted 11 d-men in the first three rounds of those drafts). By comparison, the TBL (I picked the champs but didn't look at any other teams) have made 10 d-man selections in the first 3 rounds of those same draft years and have produced 1 legit d-men (DeAngelo) and 5 marginal (J. Dotchin, N Nesterov, S Koekkoek, L Hajek & Cal Foote). Hedman was drafted in 2009, 2nd overall. I focused on first three rounds, as anything beyond that is a lottery ticket, although Poolman was a 5th rounder, while Nesterov was a fifth and Dotchin was a 6th for the Lightning. You could also make the case that the quality of the 6 Jets D is greater than than the 6 TBL D that made it during that same time frame.
  21. Nogier is a UFA at the end of the year, Phillips is RFA - under team control. Good asset management here by Chevy, but mainly depth for the Moose.
  22. I’d pass on deBrusk too, especially at that price. I don’t mind Crowse, but it won’t be for Copp. Arizona would want a prospect and/or draft capital, not a UFA, unless they think they could sign him long term.
  23. This is one of my favorites from Norm.
  24. Jets 5th round pick, over-ager Dmitri Rashevsky is off to a hot start to his KHL season. 7 points in his first 4 games. Here's a bit of his handiwork.
