There is no direct CFL involvement in this. Despite the fact there has been nothing announced directly by the CFL in any of their communication channels, if this was something they were involved in, you wouldn't have seen the announcement happen when it did. They would have waited until after the draft. Aside from that, this being a "league initiative" and "diverting league funds" couldn't be any further from the truth. I don't even know where you got that idea from the 3 Down article you posted. This is a textbook example of how false rumours get started.

There's currently 4 guys who will battle for playing time at that position this season so it's not being ignored. I think you are making a bigger deal out of this than it really is.

Getzlaf doesn't play field-side wideout. You're talking about a position that gets 3-5 targets a game. There are fairly serviceable guys on the roster right now that can handle this job.

No way Judge would have still been there anywhere close to 30th.

Throw in a healthy dose of Drake Nevis and I think the D-line should be just fine this season.

A brief statement from the first practice: Very cold and windy, and obviously making things look difficult out there for the first day. It's been very basic so far. Timing and communication issues are evident between the QBs and receivers. Roberson and Duncan appear to be as advertised when it comes to foot speed. Duncan getting some good looks at the boundary spot and was probably the most consistent of the group. Greenwood tracked down an errant pass and had a deep over the shoulder pick on the wide side of the field. On a side note, great seeing the guys on the field after what has been a long off-season.

He was selected in the seventh round (236th) by the Vikings in the 2011 draft and played three games in 2011 and 12 games in 2012. He played three games for the Jaguars during the 2013 season. In 19 career NFL games, he has 15 catches for 149 yards and one touchdown. Burton was also briefly with the Calgary Stampeders. Carmichael (5-10, 195, Virginia Tech, September 9, 1988 in Laurinburg, NC) is a veteran of 19 career NFL games with Philadelphia and Houston, including two starts in 2013 with the Eagles. He recorded 25 tackles during his time in the NFL. Carmichael also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals in 2015.
