  1. Deadline to get your picks in this week is Thursday at 6:30 PM. Picks can be made here: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=games&pid=6&wid=78 Blueandgold is still in first place with 18 correct picks. Atomic has moved up into 2nd place with 17 correct picks. And still a log jam at 3rd place. 7 people with 16 correct picks: BigBlue204, coach17, LeBird, Jacquie, MOBomberFan, saskbluefan, and sweep the leg Leader board can be seen here: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=leaderboard&pid=6&wid=77
  2. That would be way better then the 71 we gave up last year.
  3. No I think it's 23 now. 16 was prior to the Hamilton game. Double checked the stats I pulled from and you are correct that was up to Week 6. It didn't include last week. http://cfl.uploads.mrx.ca/league/pdf/en/stats/2015/2015_CFL_Statistics_Wk__6_Final082319.pdf
  4. If it isn't schemes ... then either we have poor talent, the players aren't executing, or the coaches aren't communicating what they should be doing in certain situations because so far this year we are again worse in the league in sacks allowed at 16. Now we haven't had our bye week yet and Edmonton and Calgary are only 1 and 2 less sacks better than us respectively, but we are for sure right now in the bottom third. We sit at 16. BC is tops at 3. Montreal 5, and everyone is somewhere in between 11 and 16.
  5. I will be at the game no matter what, but I can understand people not wanting to go. There has been too much time spent in that new stadium watching the game with disinterest knowing that your team has absolutely zero chance of winning. Unfortunately Tim Burke set the tone for Bomber teams in that stadium, and we really haven't been yet able to shake it.
  6. Lets look at Marcel's historical schemes and see where they ranked in the years he was an OC. Sacks His first 3 years as an OC in Saskatchewan (2003 - 2005) - His offence was the 2nd, 3rd, and 1st best at giving up the least amount of sacks (27,28,23) 2007 Montreal - Ranked last in the league (8th) with 68 sacks 2008 Hamilton - Ranked last in the league (8th) with 67 sacks 2014 Winnipeg - Ranked last in the league (9th) with 71 sacks Passing His first 3 years as an OC in Saskatchewan (2003 - 2005) - He was consistently in the bottom half of the league in passing (7th, 6th, and 8th with 4054, 4619, and 4229 yards) 2007 Montreal - Even with Calvillo he ranked 4th in the league in passing with 5044 yards 2008 Hamilton - Ranked last in the league (8th) with 4474 yards 2014 Winnipeg - Ranked 5th in the league with 4374 yards Rushing His first 3 years as an OC in Saskatchewan (2003 - 2005) - He was tops in the league in rushing each of those 3 years (2605, 2504, and 2436 yards) 2007 Montreal - Ranked 6th in the league with 1791 yards 2008 Hamilton - Ranked 1st in the league with 2532 yards 2014 Winnipeg - Ranked 8th in the league with 1513 yards Points Scored His first 3 years as an OC in Saskatchewan (2003 - 2005) - He was in the bottom half of the league in points scored all 3 years (4th, 4th, and 8th for 470, 444, and 379 points) 2007 Montreal - Ranked 7th in the league with 362 points 2008 Hamilton - Ranked 6th in the league with 408 points 2014 Winnipeg - Ranked 6th in the league with 397 points Summary Other then his first 3 years in the league 10 - 15 years ago, his offence has consistently given up the most sacks in the league. His passing offence has at best ranked in the middle of the league but that was with Calvillo at the helm, every other year has been pretty much bottom 3rd (or bottom half with Willy). He has ranked 1st in rushing every year except with Montreal and Winnipeg In points scored, his best seasons were 15 years ago when he was ranked about middle of the pack. Every other year has been middle of the pack to bottom half of the league So in conclusion, Marcel is at best an average / middle of the pack OC whose offence seems to have more success with the run (except in Winnipeg). His best passing years passing have been with Calvillo (4th best) and Willy (5th best) Can't wait to see what Willy can do with a new offensive coordinator....
  7. I know what you are trying to say here but funny story is that Chipman was a good enough football player to get a scholarship to the University of North Dakota and actually had a tryout with the Bombers. And even though he never made the team, I'd say that because of his playing days he does know a thing or two about football. And what is more, he now knows a thing or two about owning and running a sports franchise. Either way having played or knowing something about a sport is in no way a pre-requisite for owning a franchise and running it properly. People like Chipman need to be able to scout talent and put the right people in place to make good decisions. As for the Pav buyout and Noel hire, you cherry pick two very odd selections that were made by Cheveldayoff (not Chipman) in a litany of good decisions that the Jets management have made. Show me a football executive that doesn't have a decision or two that you can question in hindisight. Do I think Chipman will ever own the Bombers? No. Would I like that he did? Yes. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/a-proud-moment-for-the-humble-man-who-brought-pro-hockey-back-to-winnipeg/article1322359/
  8. It's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, so this should be the last time. At least for a very long while. This is what really annoyed be about DC's decision to go with a new Batman. TDK Trilogy was so good and Bale was good and we were all invested in it emotionally and then they start over? Hate that. Im glad to hear they want to lock Affleck up as the Robert Downey of DC. Although it does make you wonder why they went with an "older" Batman if they want to get 6-10 films out of him. I guess if they are smart they can eventually tell the Return of the Dark Knight story. I like Affleck and think he will be really good. Affleck is the same age Downey was when he did the first Iron Man (Affleck will be 43 when Batman vs Superman comes out. Downey was 43 when the first Iron Man came out). Granted, I don't think they had the complete foresight of what the Marvel Universe would become when they made that first Iron Man movie in 2008. It also begs the question. Now at 50 and moving in on 10 years later, how much longer will Downey be able to keep playing Iron Man?
  9. They cancelled the previously planned Amazing Spiderman 3 & 4 movies. However a new Spiderman played by Tom Holland will reportedly appear in the next Captain America movie to come out in 2016 and his own solo movie as Spiderman in 2017. So basically, as many reboots as it takes until they start losing a lot of money on the franchise ...
  10. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's accurate. Yeah I did quick math to calculate the passer ratings by averaging them out over the years rather then recalculating on the raw numbers. Looking closer at it, Durant's first season he was 1 for 1 pass, so that skews the numbers when you average that out as counting for 1 whole season. Here is a more accurate breakdown, ending at a season where their pass attempts were closest to Willy: Willy - 91.3 rating - 513 Completions on 781 Attempts (66%) 6385 yards 31 TDs 24 Ints Burris - 79 rating - 360 Completions on 671 attempts (54%) 5389 yards 35 TDs 30 Ints Ray - 105.3 rating - 575 completions on 874 attempts (66%) 7631 yards 59 TDs 22 Ints Durant - 84 rating - 416 completions on 690 attempts (60%) 5470 yards 31 TDs 27 Ints
  11. I think it was after TiCats 3rd TD the TSN camera caught Collaros & Company on their bench, joking and making fun of Mo Leggett, who got burned on the prior TD. That really pi**ed me off, watching those arrogant pr**ks mocking a moment of indecision by our Safety who bit when he shouldn't have. But then, you know, it's clear the TiCats play a high tempo game with enthusiasm and that they expect to win with Collaros. Doesn't seem like the Bombers really go in to any of their games with that same kind of confidence - fully expecting to win. And that includes games where Drew Willy is the starting QB. Maybe that has something to do with Hamilton going to the Grey Cup the last two years. There is no doubt that Hamilton is a better team right now, but winning also builds confidence. The Bombers have a climb ahead of them to get there. It doesn't happen over night.
  12. Actually he is a career 91.3 passer raring with 31 TDs and 24 ints http://cfl.ca/roster/show/id/4795 After a similar amount of pass attempts to start their careers, Burris was: 68.2 pass rating with 35 TDs and 30 Ints Ray was: 104.7 pass rating with 59 TDs and 22 ints (If you expect any QB to have the start of his career equal to Ray, you will be swapping QBs every couple of years, because very few measure up) Durant was: 104.7 pass rating with 31 TDs and 27 Int
  13. Gambled on 3rd down rather than going for a 48 yard field goal with a kicker who is playing lights out. I meant to ask, why do people dislike Chris Jones personally? He seems ok to me. Just his thoughts and mentality on some things. His first year as head coach he refused the traditional handshake after a game with the opposing coach because he felt that it wasn't "genuine" . Apparently he has relented and shakes hands this year because he didn't want to bring "negative' publicity to the club, but I'm sure he still thinks it is an empty gesture.
  14. If charged, this will be a test of the NHL... do they immediately suspend him? Do the Blackhawks? Should they? What happened to innocent until proven guilty. Should be immediately suspended. Too serious. Its not like he wouldnt get paid. This isnt like you or me at our jobs and even then some places would suspend or fire their employees after a charge. I understand the thought process behind this, but there is a reason the legal system has been setup in this way. Lets say the Jets are about to play the Blackhawks in the playoffs. Should someone pay someone to setup a situation where a Jonathan Toewes gets put in a similar situation? I know that is an extreme example and has a low chance of happening and risk of that person facing repercussions after the fact, but IMO it is a dangerous slope, especially where a jilted ex-lover is set on revenge. Rape is a horrible thing and if guilty, should be fully prosecuted and sent to jail. But you can't punish someone until it is proven. I guess the Voynov incident has sort of set a precedent. Here is an excerpt from an article when he was suspended: So I guess the league is going to have to try and look at the evidence and try to decide how legitimate the claim is.

  16. I agree you lose a lot of context with just the last post. I think I had this setting at a lower number before and ended up making it higher. The problem is if you hit the limit and have to manually delete some old posts, that is very difficult to do on a mobile device as well. I don't really like any of the options. I need to find something where if the limit is 5, it would just automatically delete the posts above 5, you shouldn't have to do it manually. Might need to research this a bit more.
  17. And it clogs up the page and makes the conversations annoying and difficult to read. http://morningbigblue.com/community/topic/8047-maximum-quote-setting/?p=139799
  18. Some people have made mention that the current quote system on the board make it difficult to read some posts, and if you hit the maximum, you need to delete the quotes yourself. This is a configurable setting and is currently set to the default 10. I could bump this up but it would mean some really ugly posts when they all quoted, especially on mobile devices. I can make it lower than people would have to manually remove quotes more often. Or I can make it so only the last post is quoted and the quoted parts aren't carried over. This may make some posts hard to follow if they don't have the whole history. What would you like to see?
  19. Have to say, I think Walters did good with the first rounder this year, and looks to have a real find in Waggoner with our supplemental pick. The other picks...we'll see. If my memory is correct Chungh was touted as CFL ready by analysts so as much as a fan boy as I am I can't give Walters so much credit with Chungh. Walters still drafted him and didn't pass on him like Ottawa did. I'm not saying it was a stretch or anything to take him, but the day our GM starts using the media analysts opinions on who to draft rather than his own scouting staff is the day I want a new GM.
  20. Good catch, well mostly good catch. The results of the Toronto/Hamilton game was still pending for Week 6, Week 7 is upcoming Its been updated and fixed the leaders in the above post.
  21. Deadline to get your picks in this week is Thursday at 9PM. Yikes that is a late start on a Thursday, glad it isn't a Bomber game. 22. The scariest thing is that there many people out there who think it's perfectly OK to jack up taxes and send like crazy. Usually people who don't have any money of their own. That much in foreign aid increase????? Charity starts at home and there are tens of thousands right HERE who could be aided by that cash. Im sort of wondering what type of person is attracted to the NDP. I noticed a former co-worker posting on FB after the election announcement saying how we *must* get rid of Harper. She probably makes $60,000-$70,000 a year. Married. So lets say household income is $120,000-$140,000. Has 2-3 kids. Why would she be attracted to the NDP? Not being a parent I cant say for sure... but could it be the free child care? Tax credits for having kids? Fitting into that perfect demographic that would benefit the most? While single people or wealthy (wealthier) people pay more? One of my good friends is very pro NDP to the point where he is seriously considering running in the next provincial election with the thought of getting his name out there and probably losing with all the bad press the party has gotten over the last few years, then making a second push with the hopes of getting elected in the following election. He is very involved in his local constituency and does a lot of fund raising with them. We've had some very interesting debates for sure as I am anything but NDP, landing somewhere between Liberal and Conservative. To him, the NDP is about doing the greater good for the general population. He is healthy, working at a decent job, and doesn't mind chipping in and paying more to give to and help those that can't help themselves. Has nothing but good things to say about the people he meets and works with through the party, and can't understand why people wouldn't want to do those things. Everyone is "working together for the greater good". For him, it isn't at all about not working and not making your own way or taking advantage of the sysetm, it is about helping people and making things more equitable. I don't know if he doesn't believe in the people who end up taking advantage of the system when NDP policies are put into place, or takes it as a cost for the greater good, but I will give him credit for his utopian idealism, even though there is no way it ever works out that way in the end.
  23. The same concept should go for government unions that require workers to join unions as part of their job. People should have the freedom to "opt out" of their union and keep their union dues in their pockets. It shouldn't be mandatory membership. Of course, if this actually happened, most government unions would collapse almost over night. I'm not sure about that. Many people in unions are just as passionate for them as many people are against them. I've been forced to be in some unions in some places that I've worked, and there are many hardcore pro union people that work there. Also, if the government unions dissolved, the pay and benefits that many civil servants get would be reduced to be in-line with industry averages, so why would they get rid of their unions? Government is one work place that isn't there to turn a profit and can't close up shop if pay and benefits don't make fiscal sense. It is the perfect place for unions to thrive.
  24. I agree with this, but that is completely different than there being a law to cap political contributions from unions.
