I didn't say it wasn't bush. The league has absolutely nothing to do with this decision. The league suspended which was the right decision. Some guy who has nothing to do with the league overturned it. The league had no choice. It is like the league got sued and lost. Does that decision reflect on the league? It was the decision of the court.

Not to people who really understand that an independent arbitrator means he has nothing to do with the NHL.

What would be your plan to get better reffing immediately next season? Agree we need better reffing. I think that means long term investment in salary(how much does a CFL ref make?) and training. -

4 years NHL experience and you get arbitration rights. -

Scheifele's first year was only 4 games so I don't believe that year counts. That means each of them have 3 years in the NHL. I believe they both signed under 21 years old, so that means they don't have the 4 years needed for arbitration. One more year each and they will be eligible for arbitration. So next contract. -

As I understand it, the SPC is pretty much the cookie cutter template that all contracts are based on. It defines player obligations, practice requirements, etc.... You fill in the blanks with salary, one-way / two-way, NMC, NTC, etc. All contracts must be based on the SPC, including ELC. -

No. I believe SPC is Standard Player Contract. -

I'd be thrilled if they could lock him up to that, but I find it unlikely with the agent that Trouba has (Kurt Overhardt). He represented Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Johansen when they held out as RFAs. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/columbus-blue-jackets-ryan-johansen-dispute-shining-spotlight-on-agent-kurt-overhardt/ -

If you aren't bridging, I think the only way he signs for under $5M is if your term is only 5ish years. I'd rather go 8 and have a more reasonable contract in his late 20s. Been watching him live since he was a rookie and he has made huge strides every year. Probably has one of the better wrist shots in the league. He has a legit shot at becoming a true #1 centre and star in the league. -

How much do you think he will sign a bridge deal for? He could very well hit 25 goals this year. I'm thinking his bridge deal would be something like 2 years for at least $3M per year, and maybe in the 3.5 - 4 range. Galchenyuk signed a 2 year bridge deal last year for an AAV of 2.8M. That was coming off a 20G - 46 point season. Scheifele is already at 21G and 42 points with about 16 games to go. You are going to have to pay him now or later. Look at the P.K. Subban deal. If Scheifele signs for 8, I would give him in the 5 - 6M range. We have tons of cap space right now, so that $3M savings on his cap hit next year means nothing for us, especially since we aren't going to be a cup contender and trying to maximize cap salary. The biggest benefit to the bridge would be if you signed him to 8 years after that and had him under contract for longer. However you are probably paying him 7 - 8 at that point instead of 5 - 6. To me, he has shown enough talent and dedication off the ice that I would go 8 years on him. I would like to see Trouba get a bridge. -

The Canadian dollar has to hurt Quebec as well. Any expansion fee or purchase will be in US dollars. The Jets were bought at the right time.

Not entirely true. His first season in the NHL was a lockout shortened season. He had 17 goals and 14 assists in 48 games. That is on pace for almost 30 goals. He has really done nothing since then. I'd be shocked if a team gives up a lot in a trade for him with where his game is now, but there could be a steal there for a team willing to take a gamble. Edmonton won't get fair value for a 1st overall pick. At the same time, don't really want the Jets to take that gamble.

This is one of the problems with the NCAA rule. We have like 30 days to sign him after he graduates but the NCAA doesn't let their players sign or even get subsidized for going to an NHL camp. It is no wonder NHL teams push to sign the players before they are done in the NCAA. If they stay until they graduate, why not wait an extra month to sign with wherever you want. It would be ideal for both the NHL and NCAA if they could sign with a club but continue to develop in the NCAA. I think the Jets need to think about trading Phillips. He is going to be eyeing that goalie depth and see that he is behind Hellebuyck and Comrie and wonder if he would get a better chance with another team.

Choice of channels coming to cable TV packages soon.
Rich replied to Fatty Liver's topic in General Discussion
The price of internet is going to sky rocket. A lot of people are going to be going to go to minimal cable and supplement the TV shows they watch with some kind of Netflix or streaming equivalent (other services, pirated, or whatever). The expenses of the cable companies are not going to go down nor will their expected profits. If they lose a bunch of income from column A (TV) and everyone moves to column B (internet), all the money they used to charge from column a will now get charged to column B.
