Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
https://www.cfl.ca/2025/09/29/kpmg-playoff-probability-which-team-is-the-grey-cup-favourite/ Bombers favoured to win the cup in this model for some reason. Also better than even chance to host a playoff game. Looks like they expect Calgary to be the cross over team

Blue Bombers-Tigercats Game Day Chat
Is anyone super familiar with the nuances of CFL Scoring. From the teams stat package, this is how the final play of the second half was scored (00:03) Shotgun #19 B.Mitchell pass incomplete short middle to #89 K.Lawler thrown to WPG-03 broken up by #1 D.Nichols, TURNOVER ON DOWNS. On that play, it was tipped at the line of scrimmage (by WJ I think) and then Lawler was tackled and initially a flag was thrown but was picked up due to it being tipped. Does a tipped at the LOS ball not get counted as a knockdown? It looks like the KD was awarded to Nichols. It also looks like because this happened at the end of the half, the Bombers didn't get credited with a turnover generated? The team stats package again has Hamilton at 1 turnover (on downs), which again happened in the 4th. The League Stats aggregation has the Bombers TO ratio moving from -9 to -8, so they think only 1 turnover happened as well. The 'result' of the drive is also listed as 'End Half'

It's too bad as long as Rourke is a top 4 QB he is going to suck up all the MOC talk as well. Brady is on a 2000 yards from scrimmage pace again. He is 13 yards back from the YOS lead and he's played 2.9 less games than Rankin. BC and Edmonton defenses were a mess in those games he missed as well. Only thing he is really missing is the touchdowns that Streveler loves to vulture

It's too bad the Bombers couldn't find a way to hold on vs Calgary in the third game and win one of the back-to-back with the Riders. As it is I don't think the Riders have it in them to lose out and let the Bombers sneak into first... but I do think the Bombers end up with a home playoff game.

The West feels completely wide open right now Lions and Bombers have both had stretches where theyve looedk terrible, but they are the ones who are on the winning side of the ledger right now. Saskatchewan can't trust their kicker, Harris is looking lost and the only team they've beaten in over a month have been the Bombers (and not very convincingly either sadly). Stampeders are trying to emergency drop in players to fill gaps in their injury riddled defense, Adams is looking like a deer in headlights and in their last 3 weeks (all losses) they are something like -60

3 stars plus hh beatdown edition
If anyone is curious... the CFL Media Guide has the fastest TD from Start of game at 0:12 and the play by play recorded the convert at 14:48 so that seems like it ties it. Not sure if they would put it first on the list because its the longest at that time, or last because its the most recent. FWIW the record book lists 9 TDs scored on the opening kickoff (from 0:12 to 0:15) and Winnipeg was involved in 5 of them... Winnipeg was also on the other side of the 2 fastest offensive TDs. I'm not sure if there has only been 9 on the opening kickoff, or they just decided to list 9

Lawler has been talking too much **** lately to only put up 2 receptions on 9 targets Too bad Brady didn't quite make it to 100 yards rushing, but 150 all-purpose yards means that he has an 80 yard cushion on Rankin for the lead in Yards from Scrimmage, if he keeps this up he probably has a good shot at clearing 1800. Bombers almost have a nice path to a home playoff game... 3 games left, Edmonton away and they might already be eliminated. Sask at home who might already have clinched the bye and then Montreal at home who are effectively 2 games behind Hamilton with 3 to play so they might be locked into 2nd, just have to win out and hope Calgary drops 2/4. I wonder how many times the opening kickoff has been returned for a TD. That is all my 9 year old daughter has been talking about since it happened, the fact Vaval did that blew her mind

Stamps at Als / Argos at Lions GDTs
Why did the Bombers have to play the Stamps 3 times in the first 10 weeks and not 3 times against the team that is playing now. That last second field goal in the third game might be the difference towards a home playoff game the way things are shaking out.

Only two Nat DT's. Has anyone checked to see if O'Shea is okay?

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Everyone in here talking about old-time football. WTF was going on in 1975. From the game notes for tomrorow Winning With 3 Completions: The Blue Bombers won last week despite having just 3 completed passes on 8 attempts for 54 yards and a 9.4 Rating. The last club to win a game with 3 or fewer completed passes came on September 24, 1975. That day Winnipeg was again involved when they were just 2-of-11 for 62 yards and yet defeated Hamilton 34-32. With Chuck Ealey at QB, Winnipeg rushed 54 times for 349 yards that day. Of Note: Hamilton went 3-for-12 in a 1974 game and won 11-10 over Ottawa. 8 Pass Attempts: Last week Winnipeg attempted just 8 passes for 54 yards and a 9.4 Rating. The last time that ANY CFL club tried as few as 8 pass attempts was by Winnipeg themselves on August 26, 1975 vs Calgary. That day behind QB Chuck Ealey they tried 8 passes completing 4 for 99 yards in a 25-22 win. That day they ran the ball 39 times for 237 yards.

Bombers at RBs: The GDT
Are we really advocating that the solution to the issues the Bombers have with their back-up quarterback is to utilize an offense that had its day in the sun in the NFL 15 years ago?

The game against the Lions was a pleasant surprise But in the other two wins, DST has 2x the touchdowns of the offense and Streveler has 4 turnovers... that's not exactly a recipe for winning football.

Something weird about seeing Drew Wolitarsky on the TiCats injury report under "load management" when he's only been dressed for 2 games and hasn't recorded any stats.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
No one has been able to describe even a single reason why the NFL has any interest in any business that is CFL related. The NFL already has a feeder system, it's called the NCAA. The vast majority of players coming into the NFL are from there, there are maybe a handful of players who fall through the cracks and end up in the CFL and then get another shot that way. Heck, with the advent of NIL there are probably 30+ teams that are paying more to their players than a cap-compliant CFL team would be paying to theirs. The only two markets they probably care about is Toronto, which has close ties to the Bills, and Vancouver, who seem to favor the Seahawks. Winnipeg is reasonably close to the Vikings, I'm not sure what East of Ontario favors but i'm guessing whatever team is dominate the time... I can't imagine Quebec catching on with an NFL football team. Alberta and Saskatchewan are both quite far away from any NFL markets, and not desirable media markets.

CFL already has two rules that help in the red zone... major penalties are no longer applied at half the distance and that a big one, and 1 yard off the LOS for defenses is huge... RZ production is up 4.4 points over last year so far this year.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
There is lots of weird math that is going on The league is suggesting that the presence of the goal posts along the goal line is somehow surpressing scoring, but teams are 221/360 for red zone opportunities (61.4%) this year. I can't find the NFL as a league average, but in 2024 that rate would put the CFL at number 10, behind the Panthers at 62% and above the Packers at 59%... and none of those teams have to deal with goal posts.

So fun Collaros stat Bombers have had 6 home games. Collaros has missed 2 (Suspension Week 2 vs BC, Injured Week 9 vs Toronto), been knocked out of 2 (Week 7 vs Calgary, Week 14 vs the Riders) and started and finished the game twice (Week 4 vs Edmonton, Week 11 vs Ottawa). Based on this, I expect Collaros to play this game, get injured again vs Saskatchewan, and then miss the Season Finale vs Montreal.

The league estimates that the changes will result in 60 more touchdowns a year. I would like to see their math on that.

Think of all the extra revenue you can generate from players by fining them for drinking beer or eating nachos from tables in the Bet365 Field Level Lounge during a TD Celebration

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Why does everyone think the NFL wants the CFL to be a development League? They have one, it's call the NCAA. The players moving into the NFL from there are getting paid more there than they would here. It's not worth it to the NFL to have a league where a half dozen players per year MIGHT finally take the leap and become servicable in the NFL

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Moving the goal posts is annoying because the Field goal return was one of the more exciting plays Might have been gimmicky, but you are capturing 10 yards on each side by move the end zone in 5 and eliminating the 55 yard line, make those 10 yards the field goal return zone, only inbounds during a field goal
-
Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
It's going to be something dumb like... end zones reduced to 15 yards, uprights moved to back of the end zone and no rouges on balls that go out of the end of the end zone. 15 yard end zones still keeps them unique. Uprights at the back of the end zone means teams that were kicking from 45 yards have to make it to the 30. No rouges out the back of the end zone gets rid of the weird bitching about missing field goals for the win. End zones 140 yards apart might make it easier logistically for shared stadiums with Soccer or to attract sideshow NFL games for... whatever reason.

3 stars plus hh offensive offence
From last year past week 11 QB A: 190/262 2392 Yards, 13/6 TDs/INTs QB B: 177/260, 2318 Yards, 13/7 TDs/INTs One of those is Collaros. One of those is the QB who won the all-star nod in the West (Harris). Yeah Collaros was buoyed by a great game against the Elks... but he also had an outrageous game against the Riders in the West Final as well. He had a horrendous start to the year, and then finished pretty strong IMO. The problem is the Bombers have a MOP calibre player in Oliveira, but get away from him and let Zach gunsling it. If we were to play a bit more conservative I think the Bombers would be more successful (when he is playing which has been an issue this year)
