But the pt is not only that it wasn’t completed but that it had a very high risk profile and was patently unnecessary at that pt in the game. We were up by 6 late in the fourth quarter with a great running game going. Bleed the clock and wear  them down. That’s Bomber football; winning football. It was a colossal mistake.

Exactly. Running the ball on FIRST down with 6 mins left in fourth up by six when the running game was established is NOT conservative. It’s smart football.

I think the latter is what happened. Everyone I’ve talked to says that ZC was fine. That being said, in a Grey Cup game, up by six, with your run game going, there is no reason to put Prukop in that position. Prukop admitted he made the wrong read. That’s what 3rd stringers do. Cost us the game. Buck isn’t stupid, but this was stupid.
There’s aggressive and there’s foolish. But that was the first time in the entire season they asked Prukop to make a read like that. Terrible decision by coaches. Foolish.

That happens. ZC would’ve recognized it and went to a check down. Prukop did what most third stringer would do, made a bad decision and chucked it. Never should’ve been in that position.

I can say this re-reading the comments about the Prukop pass. It was an incredibly stupid play call. I firmly believe that it cost us the Grey Cup. Usually a play call like that with such serious consequences would cost an OC his job because of such a poor decision & he'd be fired. However, neither I or anyone else want to see Buck go anywhere. I put that decision down to Buck still learning his position as a coordinator. He made a mistake. Hopefully, he'll learn from it & be a better coach for it in the future.

Great thread. I thought I'd share my thoughts now that we are a week removed from the game. I've actually been able to be pretty positive after the disappointing loss and I thought that maybe if I shared my reasons for that other people might be inspired as well.
Everything you said was true Zach. These were all feelings I experienced to psychologically devastating effects in 2001, 2007 and 2011. This time was different though. This time we are coming off of back to back Grey Cup victories. This time instead of feeling crushed by losing the one big game I am elated that we won the previous two.
I've been able to focus on all of the positives. The many, many positives. Having the most wins in the whole league since 2016, winning 2 straight cups, dominating our home games, having the best record in the league for two straight seasons, etc.
The dynasty would have been epic beyond words but not getting the threepeat doesn't diminish what we have to celebrate. What every other team in the league wishes they had.
In short, I'm having the best time of my life as a Bomber fan and the offseason can't end soon enough. I'll see you all at IGF in 2023. Go Blue!!!

Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting! I would agree with a lot of this. I guess for me, and for many Bombers fans, while it’s a distraction, it’s also a meaningful community. We feel connected to the players, coaches and staff who are mourning big time. The Bombers make us very much part of the team and regarding civic duty, the club does so much in the community. Anyway not discounting your post. It’s super interesting and helpful.

Thanks so much my friend. I love what you’ve said about our third place. It’s so true. This forum and the Bombers community is definitely mine as well. Cheers buddy.
I get that. For me it’s much more than entertainment. It’s family, it’s my lifestyle. Everything surrounds the Blue. At the same time, I try to remember that it’s about the great relationships I’ve gained, not the wins and losses, as much as the latter hurt badly.

I can’t pretend to know even a fraction of what Buck knows but why even put a 3rd stringer in that position? Especially when we were running the ball so well! Even if we keep running the ball and have to punt, we frickin win that game. At no point in the season did I see Prukop put in a situation like that. So why do it in the Grey Cup up by six?

While I agree that there were several factors that lead to a one point loss last Sunday, I believe that at a minimum, the Bombers have to bring in some serious competition at kicker/punter position. (Darn, in spite of how poorly the Bombers played and were coached in certain aspects of the game, at the end, it was still there for the taking.)  Yes, Liegghio took a "massive leap" relative to last year. However, in three regular season games where he was kicking last year, he missed 3 of 8 FGs and 3 of 8 converts. It would be difficult to not improve on those numbers. So, he did. However, this year he was still 7th of 9 regular kickers in FG% and 8th of 9 in convert success. There was a definite improvement in his %s but relatively speaking he was mediocre at best. And for KOs (yd. per kick), he was 4th among regulars and with a 46.9 yd. punting average, he was 5th among regular punters.
