Bombers secondary is terrible.
They will be the undoing of the team before this game is over.

I don't think they could squeeze much more out of the players, what I witnessed last night was the A game for most of them.

I'd like to see Lapo and Hall gone. Right now I am worried that we fire MOS in November and make Lapo HC.

TheSource reacted to deepsixemtoboyd in Matt Nichols - YAY!!!!!!!!!
Yes, indeed, them's the key words: "he needs to do it again next week." Yes, Nichols had a controlled, pretty mistake-free game last night at home against the team with the worst record in the CFL. That's good. It's certainly better than the alternative: crapping the bed and losing to the worst team at home. That said, let's hold off on the heavy kudos for now. Judgment is reserved about his rehabilitation until he can do it against a plus .500 club from the West. After all, that's the acid test, no? Those are the teams we will need to beat if we hope to take home the chalice.

It's helpful whenever anyone mentions Mike Kelly, because that almost makes me grateful for MOS.

This is a beautiful mixed metaphor. Thank you!

There's such a thing as appropriately confident and self-assured, and then there's just flat-out delusional. Our coach is a nice guy who is the latter. While I don't share J5V's vociferousness about him (that I felt for Mike Kelly or even the hapless Burke), I certainly find it curious how many folks are seemingly eager to defend this paragon of mediocrity. I mean, **** guys, the man is 3 games below .500 over a 5 year career with not a single playoff victory under his belt. Is that good enough for y'all?

Agree with everything, possible exception Harris being brittle. He takes a lot of punishment. Too much. Defences go off on him because really he’s all you have to scheme against. He’s likely hurt every game but still plays at a high level. They need other legitimate weapons

Being there live, I would say not impressed by Manziel. He can run but man he throws a lot of ducks and off his back foot a lot.

A few thoughts from last night's game:
The only thing the Bombers proved was that they are better than the Al's
Nichols was not much better than Manziel, and Manziel was not good at all
Bombers still cannot make half-time adjustments to the offence
Thompkins can play well in thus league.
Harris's brittleness has to be a growing concern.
Even if the Bombers manage to make the playoffs, they will be one and done again.
Nichols was better but he still ain't good.

I hear what you are saying, and there is truth in it. I have followed this team for all of those years, and in hindsight, some of that house cleaning was ill-advised.
That said, there has to be constant, consistent, change on a club to get better. It is called continuous improvement and the reason why Bombers are where they are this year is because they sat back and did less positive moves than all their competition. And as the season goes on, all of their competition continue to make changes to improve, and Bombers sit back and do not even consider bringing anyone in in terms of players, coaches, or consultants to try and improve.
The organization has demonstrated that from top to bottom that they are highly resistant to any form of change, and that my friend, is a recipe for disaster in any organization these days.
This thread is about house cleaning. Why is that necessary? Because if no one in the org makes changes when they show long patterns of losing trends and/or lack of growth, then you cannot expect to get different results, and although it is a large risk, it becomes necessary to replace all the components that are resistant to changes necessary for improvement. Compared to the current competition in the league the present management and coaching personnel have demonstrated the following:
1) Their rebuild period (now 5 years and counting) is excessively long compared to every other team that has entered rebuild in the last 10 years. This creates a logistical problem because the rebuild duration threatens to exceed the longevity of core players, and with shorter contracts and more free agent movement, it is harder to keep a competitive core together for that time. (Say goodbye to key players like Goosen and Chung soon)
2) The drop off in performance this year is deeper than any drop off suffered by any other CFL team in the past 10 year period (going from 12-6 to a projected 5-13 in a single season)
3) All official communications coming from the org have indicated that no changes are planned in the short term or long term, despite their knowledge of the current performance trends
4) This year was portrayed by the team as a year to be making a GC run, and it turns out that they may very well miss the playoffs. This demonstrates that the management and coaching personnel do not have a good understanding of performance forecasting or evaluation of their personnel selections, and more importantly, that they consistently do not understand what it takes to make a team successful on the field in the current competitive CFL. Since this understanding is a prerequisite to making successful changes for improvement, going forward, why would you continue to support management and coaching that does not understand these key concepts?
5) Including this year, this team will have missed the playoffs more than any other CFL team in the past 5 year interval.

No, it won't. Miller's not that stupid. Is he?

What an uninspiring game by an offense that had something to prove. Bleh.
I'll be shocked if we win more than one game the rest of the way.

Demski is bad with contact too. Arguably worse than Adams.

Bottom line is, you have to think that Streveler wins that game too. O’Shea puts Nichols in that spot, he wins and now I don’t see a situation where he loses his job the rest of the year.

Been that way ever since he got here. He's not an elite receiver. He'd be the number 3 receiver on most teams. He is supposed to be our best & deep threat. He's not either.

Jets game going on.,,,yeah, it's pre-season but I'm sure there were 13 - 14,000 people there. Many have lost faith in the Bombers this season. I can't blame them. No surprise there was less than 20,000 at the game.

Walters will have to bring in an international receiver to put some pressure on Adams then. Just use his vast network of contacts from down south.

Heh, heh. Long-term injuries to those three will give the Bombers the perfect excuse to bring back all the coaches next season.

Agree - Injury report will be very critical. We don't have much hope with them in but without them we have zero hope. All that happened tonight is that the Bombers beat the worse team in the league and the score did flatter the Bombers IMHO.

Big story has to be Harris and Demski going forward. No chance we beat anyone left on our schedule without Harris, and probably about the same with Demski.

There are about five guys on this team worth building around, Oline excluded.
