  1. Between 2019 & 2024 he was here for 4 seasons, so I doubt that. It was a financial decision. The Bombers didn't want to pay. Schoen coming off an injury season was the cheaper option. Seems like a waste of money signing him.
  2. We decided to keep Shoen with an injured knee who missed almost the entire season last year & let Lawler get away?? I remember being against that decision & stating that here when Lawler signed with Hamilton wondering how many games we could squeeze outta the guy before he was hurt again. Jeezus, What kind of frigging decision was that from Walters & Osh???
  3. Bang on. The CFL only worrying about the players but not the fans was wrong. If air quality was as bad as they say then get everyone out of that toxic nightmare. Cancel the game & do a make up whether it's the next day or two months from now. People wonder what is up (or down) with attendance. To me, the answer is easy. Disrespect the fans & this is what you get. No one shows up. I wonder how many fans the Riders lost Friday night with the way they & the CFL handled everything?
  4. Most fans aren't in the shape of a football player. The average man & woman expend a lot of energy climbing up & down stairs as they're out of shape. Parents brought babies & little kids to the game & their immunity systems haven't developd like that of adults. Is any long term damage being done being exposed to the noxious chemicals in the smoke? I'd bet that never came up in the hours long discussion between the CFL, CFLPA & TSN on rescheduling the game. The only safety issue to those 3 was protecting the players but not the fans. The league doesn't take that into consideration. Decisions need to be made much quicker with a whole set of different parameters neded to speed things up. Making people wait like that for hours in those conditions was absolutely ludicrous.
  5. It wasn't 67 years ago, I would have to have been 3. However, it was a long time ago & yes things have improved since but careers are still cut short with an injury like that. And it still is a life altering injury.
  6. I jut turned 70 last week. At my age just waking up is good news. Bonus that I remembered where the bathroom was thus preventing a nasty accident. Yes, I remembered to close the lid. Wait a minute, did I flush???
  7. How refreshing it is having Laura Diakun as guest host in the absence of Kate Bierness? She's a pro who keeps the panel on task & guess what?? They actually can have an interesting football discussion with Diakun. Unlike Bierness, who is all over the place with her comments, jokes, wild laughter & skits. The panel just follows her lead & gets goofy. Bierness is not a host. She lacks the discipline that Diakun has, She seems perfectly suited to be the full time host of TSN football. I wish TSN would make a change.
  8. I just listed the 9 starters. Three of those qbs have played 3 games. Two have better stats than Collaros. If you look at the others, we have no way of catching up because our passing numbrs are anemic as we have a shell of what we used to have for receivers. Yeah, Collaros ain't what he used to be but MOS & Walters made it worse. I don't care how much Lawler is making, he is worth every penny. Unless Schoen has an epiphany as a receiver & starts putting up 150 yards a game rceiving, he isn't. He looks like he's lost at least one& maybe two steps. I suffered the exact same knee injury Schoen did last year when I was 22. The injury was life changing. Even with rehab my knee was never the same. It was replaced in 2022.
  9. I have stories as I was a claims adjuster for Kernaghan Adjusters. I flew & drove all over the north when I lived in Thompson working on insurance claims in 1989.. I think there were more fires that year surrounding the town than people knew. You really could see it from the air.
  10. No, Ben Hatskin & Sonny Werblin, the owner of the New York Jets were business acqaintances & friends. When he secured a team in the Westrn canada Hockey League, he named the team the Jets in honour of Werblin's AFL team. When he later sold the Junior Jets, he bought into the WHA with a franchise in 1971 & called them the Jets as well. Again, to honour Werblin. Just an aside but in the 1950's my dad knew Ben Hatskin as well through business. Both men raced cars. My dad owned an Auto Body shop on Marion Street right beside the Norwood Hotel. It was there for 36 years from 1946-82. My father built a race car. Hatskin also owned a car as well & they raced against one another. Both my dad & Hatskin hired professional drivers to race their cars.
  11. Wish you all the best. I lived in Thompson for 2 years in 1989 & 90. We also had to deal with wildfires as well. All of the north the summer of 89 was on fire. At one point, Thompson was on alert to be evacuated but it didn't happen. Not a very nice feeling.
  12. Trevor Harris who missed one game & just had a bye has played 4 games, Nathan Rourke, Davis Alexander & Dru Brown have all played 3 games, the same as Collaros. Both had been out more than one game with injuries. Alexander is still out. All have more yards passing yards than Collaros. It just shows how anemic our passing game is. Meanwhile, Ken Lawler puts on a pass receiving clinic every week. GP: 5 Bo Levi Mitchell, Tiger Cats, 1,485 yards, 11 tds, 1 int GP: 5 Vernon Adams, Stampeders, 1,453 yards, 5 tds, 5 int GP: 5 Nick Arbuckle, Argos, 1,449 yards, 7 tds, 7 int GP: 4 Trevor Harris, Riders, 1,231 yards, 6 tds, 3 ints GP: 3 Dru Brown, RedBlacks, 1,012 yards, 5 tds, 2 ints GP: 5 Tre Ford, Elks, 950 yards, 5 tds, 2 ints GP: 3 Nathan Rourke, Lions, 925 yards. 5 tds, 2 ints GP: 3 Davis Alexander, Alouettes, 803 yards, 5 tds, 2 ints GP: 3 Zach Collaros, Blue Bombers, 801 yards 6 tds, 4 ints
  13. Zach is in 9th place as a starting passer in the CFL. Our passing game is terrible. Yeah, Lawler is worth it. One deep ball to him & the game changes.
  14. It's a great day when the Riders lose so I enjoyed this game immensely. As far as the Stamps goes, the season is a marathon & not a sprint. We'll see if the Stamps can maintain this pace. The Stamps come into our House next week. If they beat us again then I'll believe they're for real...
  15. You treat fans with no respect & that's what happens.
  16. We looked like **** in all 3 phases of the gane vs the Stanps last week. That's what Tracker is talking about,
  17. Notes? Surely you jest.
  18. I live in YYC so the signal doesn't make it. Online, I listen to classic rock when I'm on my laptop. But radio is getting really bad.
  19. I know we're a bit off topic here but the Bombers had a true hero play for them in the 1930's. His name was Jeff Nicklin. He was from Fort William, Ontario but moved to Winnipeg. He grew up in Lord Roberts & lived on Rathgar Avenue. He got married at St. Albans Anglican Church in Lord Roberts. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 & trained to be a paratrooper. I grew up on the other side of Osborne Street in Riverview so I'm proud knowing that Nicklin who heroically sacrificed everything for this country lived in the same area where I grew up. The Jeff Nicklin Trophy is given to the Western Division's MOP. Last year, Brady Oliveira won it. If you don't know who Jeff Nicklin was then please read this. https://westenddumplings.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-greatest-blue-bomber-youve-never.html
  20. People like me who remember the 60's & 70's are dying off. That's why classic rock stations now play Eminem. There's no more Birds, Animals or Rascals being played.
  21. I appreciate your support of my CFL History group page on Facebook. Not to be mistaken for the copycat Canadian Football History page started by someone else.
  22. Just a quick comment regarding the postponed game last night. The CFL & CFLPA said it was too dangerous to play due to smoke. Yet, the league made 27000 people sit outside in that same noxious smoke for over 4 hours while TSN, the CFL & CFLPA couldn't get their **** together to make a call to postpone the game so people could get out of the smoke.
