There is a difference between someone being offended and hate.  The Edmonton team nickname is a derogatory term put on a racial group by another racial group to make fun of them.  Is everyone here good with team nicknames like spiks, wet-backs, spear-chuckers,etc?  The argument seems to be that this is different because our society has used this particular term to identify that racial group for a century due to sheer ignorance.  When people become aware of the derogatory nature of the term and still continue to use it for something as meaningless as a team's nickname, then it becomes hateful.
You call a buddy "fats" because others do it.  He tells you it bothers him.  You continue to do so.  Are you still his buddy or his bully?

I have no problem with people in 1949 calling the team that name.  Not sure why did, but I have no problem with people making ignorant decisions.  Once they are no longer ignorant and refuse to fix it, it becomes spiteful.  The very fact that they are only doing the right thing because they are going to be forced to do it says a lot about them though.
Times change.  I can be a get-off-my-lawn person because I don't like change.  But I need to change if what I am doing could be insulting to others.
I don't think that anyone is insulted because our team is named after an African American boxer.  If it is, then it would be a reasonable discussion.

Calling for a blatantly racist name to be changed is not "being offended". It's "doing the right thing...which should have been done 50 years ago"

What the hell is Ambrosie doing....letting the argos' off the hook....He's setting a bad precedent here...I understand that this franchise is on life support BUT knowing they cheated and allowing them to keep a first rounder they didn't deserve, and doubling down on an extra territorial pick is just plain bull$hit ...He could've let the fine go but for cripes sake have the balls to back up the rest of the punishment...All of the rest of the clubs are presently wondering what the hell is going on...BRUTAL

Play the season out of Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton and Calgary and then move the playoffs indoors to BC so you can extend the season.

Ugh. I was really hoping the jokes would be unnecessary. The guy might not have been a superstar, but he was a quality Canadian foot soldier who wore Blue and Gold for awhile. He deserves at least a semi-respectful tip of the cap for his retirement. Thanks for the service!

The times were much different back then with censorship being so strong on radio, tv & movies. Material by all comedians was tame by comparison to today. No surprise after what is allowed today that the themes back then would be looked upon as tame or boring. Some things about Wayne & Shuster are worth mentioning:
Performed in Britain for Allied Troops in WW2.
First comedians to ever perform on Canadian television.
Had their own show & comedy specials on CBC TV & radio.
Had their own summer sitcom on CBS TV produced by Jack Benny in 1962.
Were voted the Most Popular Comedy Group in America in 1961 & 62.
Appeared 67 times on the Ed Sullivan Show the most by any performers (at an unheard of $7,500 an appearance). Frank Shuster said that it was more like 58 times.
Sullivan, famous for cutting acts out of the show or limiting performances to just a few minutes at the last minute was under contract to never do that to them. No other performers had that clause written into their contracts with Sullivan. One comedy skit in 1958 called Blood On My Toga was 12 minutes long which again was unheard of at the time.
Despite numerous offers from American television networks to develop a comedy series, W & S never left Canada preferring to center their work out of this country. How much bigger would they have been had they moved to the States?
Were very popular in Britain performing various times on television, comedy shows & clubs. (Probably from their time entertaining Allied troops in WW2).
No question, W & S helped pave the road for other future Canadian comics to the US & internationally.

Regina could be one of a few hub cities, but not one of two.  They have some of the only fans who might pay a few dollars to go to a neutral site game between two non-Sask teams.  But, they have nowhere for fans of other teams to stay.  Their hotel situation is still terrible and the Airbnb options are few and far between.

The Bombers have made their payments.  I don't know about you, but I pay the amount on my mortgage that my bank and I agreed when they gave me the money.  Whether it was a good deal for the bank is not my concern.  You may think that my bank should have agreed on a larger monthly payment.  I don't care.  I will pay what we agreed.
The Bombers have not reneged on their commitments in this regard.
Personally I am very pleased with IGF, the pricetag and the financial agreements on all sides.  Winnipeggers have a stadium that will meet our needs for years to come.  That costs money.

This is brilliant!  We play the 2020 season in 2021. the 2021 season in 2022, and we play the 2022 season now!  There will definitely be a vaccination for COVID in 2022!  Therefore, we start the 2022 season now and everyone can play because they have been vaccinated - and so have the fans.  Also, the TV money should be more for the 2022 season, so the teams will all make money!
Problem fixed.  the 2022 Bomber training camp can start next Sunday.  The only problem is that Andrew Harris will be retired and won't be able to play.  But our 2020 draft picks will all be seasoned vets, so our Canadian content will still be fine.

Boy, Randy Ambrosie sure is getting a lot of flak for his approach to asking for Federal support. A lot of it from football fans. In a time where nobody has ever seen stoppage of play because of severe health concerns.
It seems like a business plan is needed. Makes sense. But really a business plan when you cannot guarantee even a percentage of gate revenue? That’s tough.
And TSN revenue? Where’s that stand?
And the CFLPA? Are they in, and supporting the league, or are they asking difficult questions that few can answer?
I believe they last met on April 24. One of the big issues is clause in the
    Collective agreement.
    Quote:
“At the heart of the impasse is interpretation of paragraph 16 of a standard CFL player's contract. It essentially states both sides agree that if the league operation is suspended at any point, all contracts become null and void making players free agents.

So the question remains, could that happen if the '20 season was cancelled due to the novel coronavirus outbreak? Not surprisingly, the CFL believes the clause refers to the league folding and ceasing operations, not cancelling a campaign.”

    https://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/cfl/cfl-cflpa-dispute-1.5544489

    That’s a tough start.
I don’t know who’s saying what, and who’s being more adversarial, I wasn’t there. But at that point they didn’t seem to be on the same side.
I’m not taking any side, I just want to see football this year, but there are so many hurdles, including backing the League Commissioner, and helping him put together a plan.
Hey, that’s like a real football team where everybody works together for a common goal.
    I say, enough bickering.
    Let’s get this done.
It’s going to take a lot of work.
And, by the way, do other hard pressed businesses in Canada 🇨🇦 have to go through the same hoops before they get their payout?

That's a horrible way to negotiate. Never go in with a number you can't justify. If you do, you get the other sides backs up and it makes it harder, if not impossible, to come to an agreement.
