  1. Id take tim burke back in a heart beat as a DC. Atm I think the best chance at a dcor is to find a great positional coach on the rise. As an aside If i was looking for a def positional coach, especially lb or db id give reinbold a look. Not the most popular coach from our past, and not some one id look at as a CO atm. But hes an excellent teacher and motivator.
  2. jays added aledmys diaz ss/2b. all star as a rookie couple years back. Great guy to have as a 3rd middle infielder.
  3. wow thats ******* awful
  4. We could well have that allready. But thats not what nichols or the offense do. May as well hope for a new goaltender for the bombers. Adams is that guy. Washington has that tool set. Givens has the potential. Would be nice to have a guy who was even more of a miss match monster. But I dont believe we would adapt to make great use of em. Im not in general one to worry about player type, as much as quality. The coaches job is to take the best players and put them in positions to make plays. A play calls for a guy to do some thing specific in a certain area. But the way he does that, the tactics used to achieve the strategy are various. Great coaches recognize the talent they have and help them (with the position coach) to dial in technique. That might be subtle shifts like what you do when a DB shades you one way or another, adjusting when you burst in your route, etc. Stuff like using play design (snag and rub routes) to create separation for slower guys, or top speed guys, or poorer route runners, and iso/run offs to create 1 on 1s etc. We dont do a lot of that. We hammer our pieces to fit what we want to do. Rather then playing to their strengths. Until we maximize our use of the talent we have bringing in the best guys in the world at what we dont do wont help.
  5. Yeah ive had some thing similar happen on the bus.
  6. Would it be too much to hope that claybrooks turns them down and they turn to hall? haha
  7. Yeah exactly. The issue is reed all the way. A good GM would make mtl a decent fit they could tear down and build. montreal is a great cfl market. The pipeline is crazy deep. The sooner the league can get that market cleaned up the better. It would be great to see each franchise with strong management.
  8. No question about that. You dont last as long in pro football as claybrooks did, and then succeed soo quickly as a coach with out that drive to excel. But going from the best run franchise to one of the biggest dumpster fires in the last decade is a sh%^& move. Trestman and pop showed it can be done in one year. but you gotta have that right management in place too.
  9. Probably right about reed n tillman and reed just wanting a yes man. And maybe some one to take heat off him in montreal. Young coach would buy him time. Part of me thinks this is all from reed. Id hope claybrooks has kicked the tires is gonna do the interview and gain that experience and go no further. That moment, the interview is huge for a young coach. That first time interviewing for a HC job and being wanted thats like the feeling in your gut on an elevator. Maybe BC after next year replace buono.
  10. In general a dumpster fire isnt an awful way to take a first crack at being a HC. BUT claybrooks can wait for a perfect situation and cherry pick. He hasnt been coaching that long, and can still benefit a good bit from being in a strong organization like calgary. 40 years old, in coaching since 2012 Id wait for sure. A guy like him who has no reason to be desperate what so ever should groom till he finds a great management core that will support him and give him a few years. Like we did here.
  11. Maybe buono will calm him down a bit. Hervey is an interesting choice. Ill take BC with hervey over mtl with saveface reed thats for sure. Im glad that Buono will ride off into the sun set after next year. The last of the old guard. Greatest HC ever? Over a career I think so. Id put the don for best over short periods of time ahead of him. Gonna be strange to have a league with out him on a team. Only 4 years have passed with out wally involved in a CFL team from 1973 to now. Just un real.
  12. Top tier guy. Amazing size, experience for his age, and skills. I dont think any one is the best end in the league at current. A bunch of guys in that top tier who are interchangeable with different up sides. My favorite none bomber end would probably be hughes. Hes soo savvy with playing pass lanes, attacking the football, just does every thing well. We are gonna be in an interesting position next year. Poop deserves to be nfl bound imo. That push he has up the middle is damn near once a generation level stuff from a DT. Nevis is a FA, Jake thomas and westerman too. Jeffcoat could have an out side shot at an nfl camp invite this year but I doubt it. If he starts a full year next year though with how he progressed this year I could see him gone after that pretty easy. Ogopogo came into his own late, corney showed more flashes but would be a big jump up if he had to replace westerman.
  13. Thats how it was for me as well. Territorial rights.
  14. the last year years he missed 3 games 10 games and 2 games. Missing 2 or 3 games is gonna happen. Mo hasnt played 18 games in a year either. Depth is allways huge in the cfl. Its a violent sport with a long season. We need a 3rd wr who can be a go to guy, and some young high up side guys.
  15. I love rainey. If he was used more as an X factor he could be the talk of the league. That said we could get some one with a similar skill set and use them in the jet sweep package, with some wr screens, slants on rub route plays etc. We have room for both imo, though Idk if we had that guy if wed make use of them. Imo mcduff showed a good bit of that utility. A full season of healthy darvin adams and dressler would be a gigantic boon for our offense.
  16. Id tell you, but im afraid John Heisman would come back from the dead for revenge. Not risking it.
  17. No freaking kidding haha. Yeah it was pretty funny at times.
  18. Ahh good catch. Didnt know that.
  19. Mmm i want to say dave ritchie started out as a HC in bc? Its is certainly very few and far between. Especially now. Their is a chance for some extremely talented coaches who excel with creativity and teaching to come up and shine well enough to last. That said those guys wouldnt end up in the cfl in general. In particular I could see chip kelly doing well, but I am an out right kool aid drinker when it comes to him. The grade A guys I agree. The guys with grade A potential can and do come up. The best strategy imo is to get up and coming Cos (like mos was) surround him with league savvy Cos, maybe guys who dropped down from previous HC jobs (like plop) and fill out the position coaches With high up side young southern coaches, and ex players looking to move into coaching.
  20. No kidding. When marvel struck gold with iron man, they took a step back and started developing great stories to work with iron man. Its not even that the first wave of supporting movies are great. Maybe only iron man is the best in its own series. But they made them fun, and committed to a supporting story. If dc had taken its time and done a momoa aqua man, the WW movie, cyborg, etc it would have been way better. But the whole dccu is soo over rushed, over bloated, and still under developed its just sad. Its like a 1000$ a plate meal, in a fancy setting, with half great half frozen ingredients executed with the attention to detail and precision of macdonalds, served half raw. I love the dc universe. Imo batman is the best hero, with the best stories. Hands down. At some point DC has to stop wiping their @$$ with the material and making transformers quality movies.
  21. Was gonna add that. A story line and twist that would make stephen king proud.
  22. Not the keenest on osh either. But what they are doing is clearly more tuned to the long run. The blue need to be regulars in the play offs for a good few years. To, the market is bandwagon jumpers. They can be feast or famine. Not to mention that the last franchise the league would let fail. They have a considerable net. Both teams also play in the east. If the worst team in the west had played the whole year in the east, they have as good a shot at winning out as the argos. Way she goes. The prairies are the home to high quality football. (im including alberta, awful I know but I lump them in) The east is the pits. Also cant under estimate the job pop and trestman did. Trestman is legit a great coach. A next level guy at teaching and leading his players. I honestly believe 1 or 2 more players and he would still be with the bears. I think the question is, do we go all in? We are in a position imo where we could forge ourselves into the GC favorite. Are we willing to mortgage or out right sell the future? Our picks, rights to gray, mulumba, some of the young nucks like corney and our OL, we could spend aggressively and pre pare to pay penalties etc. Also on ott, every one kinda thought desjardins was nuts. Hank AND harris, and all those wrs. It wasnt a long term core but he gambled and won. I respect the crap outta that. He found some real good talent too.
  23. Thats the truth, but its the coach and managements job to create that winning environment. Bill walsh instructed every part of his organization how to go about their job to create a winning atmosphere. Down to how the secretaries answered the phone. Being willing and having the management/owners support to clear out the talented but toxic types and being willing to bring in COs with higher aspirations isnt easy. But greatness doesnt come easy. Good in pro sports very quickly becomes gone. Good is the enemy of great. Gotta give mos, walters, and miller all the credit on that. They stuck to it and were willing to take the lumps to create a winning environment.
  24. Saw this and decided to post it, Story of a brutal one sided football game and why it happened.
  25. QFT. I feel like this is a thin era for coaching. The league has a fist full of guys as HCs I wouldnt touch with a 10 foot clown pole. Maas? Jones? Saveface reed? Even the all mighty buono is on his last legs. Im a big big fan of june jones, but hes a rook up here with no TCs and while I think he will succeed hes a bit of a gamble. He came into a situation with nothing to lose and they didnt make the play offs in the east. Dis honorable mention to austin. Cus thats a stone cold no too. You can allways go for a higgins, or a danny macioca but just the though makes me throw up a bit. If I had to pick a guy to be a HC right now, id be looking at a top CO, and bring in some proven Cos to support em. Id take plop over a good few guys coaching right now if he agreed to not micro manage the offense I think he'd do well. Obligatory *tim burke should still be a *DC in the league comment here. Replace with your favorite guy whose gone but not coming back.
