Bombers Rookie Camp/Training Camp/Pre-Season Thread

Kyrie back on the 6 game right away is concerning. Hansen too. Hope fully they will be ready early to mid camp. Adding yet another punter is an odd one. -

Not too surprised they probably take a look at him when he’s healthy again. -

I think this is a good question for bauming, though even if there is a reason I don’t think I would possible agree with it. the league needs to grow coverage and broad cast quality in order to grow and maintain the fan base. And as a league the ability for under appreciated talent to find opportunity here is our life blood. We need the best players on game day rosters not hiding on the bench pr it etc. -

Sucks. Though at his age and wear and tear he could stage another come back possibly. If he got healthy I’d still give him a look. Makes me glad bc gave him that fat contact in free agency. Beckett Taylor and Wade are certainly the prime candidates for TC MOR who goes Mia or under performs. the previous 2 years we had that de, Montgomery? Close to Willy sized top notch school with a big pass rush pedigree. Even came in mid season the second year and looked amazing in a few snaps in one game. Sack or two tfl and a couple pressures. Then gets cut and no one gives him a look. I feel like out side of qbs and neg listers cfl teams aren’t scouting other teams camps nearly as well as they used to. Possibly from the ballooning of tc rosters and front office salary caps. You don’t see nearly as much tc stand outs getting picked up by other teams any more. -

Could be. Would certainly play into the whole secrecy thing the mafia do. Though I don’t think that’s it. The only thing that would do is keep teams in the dark a bit more about guys on the pr, but poaching is super rare now. Is it even still a thing? back in the day the freep etc expected those articles each day of camp and rookie camp. The bombers don’t. I think it’s that less is expected and tait for instance would prefer to write a long (and always brilliant) personal story that appeals to many more people than a camp break down for the football nerds. I could well be wrong though. -

https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Julius-Turner-DL-Rutgers https://scarletknights.com/sports/football/roster/julius-turner/10396 turner looks like a disruptive back field guy, the type who sheds blocks and gets pressures or creates sacks for ends. More instinctual than athlete. Played some nose for Rutgers but is undersized even by cfl standards. Guys who plays that much college ball and never refine them selves athletically especially at a good program worry me. They may have upside but they seem a lot less likely to ever capitalize on it. Though for the mafia to bring him in he must have a good head on his shoulders. I feel like the era of soft body linemen is over, especially in the cfl. -

It’s much much more content to cover than the drills at the combine. In the past we’ve had far more in-depth coverage with far smaller rosters. they haven’t even reported who showed up and who hasn’t. Remember a couple years ago we didn’t know a guy was Mia till mid camp? I love and appreciate all the fantastic coverage on the personal stories and such. But especially after the long off season this is the time for good football reporting. I know most of the media guys are bomber employees now and maybe that’s the trade off. Maybe next year we here need to set up a rotation of guys going to rookie camp and tc to post like we used to have. I could certainly set up a week or so off to help contribute. Sucks about Henry don’t think he ever reported. -

Is it just me or has the mini camp reports been kinda sparse? I feel like from all sources they haven’t talked about guys other than one good catch a day and the odd pick from a db. -

Walker was meh, sayles was excellent. Aj was really one year as a return man here. Blink was excellent but again transitioned into just an offense guy. next up was fogg. But yeah I don’t think any one is even close to grant. A lot of our other good kr guys were full time position players or became them. Or left for the nfl. It really seems like we haven’t had great return men in the last 30 ish years. and as good as stokes was he ended up just playing selfish and selling out for tds every time and losing huge yardage. -

He was excellent. If we had a nose next to him he’d a been a real modp candidate. I like the guy a lot. But we aren’t going to flip the ratio or work as well with out a nose. I think he will have a great year in hammy -

100% he runs like a 220lbs rb. Absolutely love his physicality strength and attitude. Doesn’t get caught up going east west too. You couldn’t design a better kr It isn’t hard to find but we didn’t get one all last year. I think it’s philosophical. We need to be based around a nt. But you are right it’s not hard to find that guy for the cfl and our front office excels at finding those guys. Funny thing is he was a monster td threat before coming here. Iirc he’s 2nd or 3rd in defensive tds. -

When I first read this I thought wade miller lmao. I’d probably still take him in kick cover. I do totally agree though. If kyrie is hobbled or reduced I can see that. If it’s pre injury kyrie then I don’t see it but it might be a rotation too which could be good for biggie and kyrie. Tony Ortiz. Mr training camp modp. I swear he was in 4 camps here and never stayed healthy but looked amazing in each. 2021 was 10 total kicks lol. His career avg ko is worse than legs worst year. -

Not a lot of up for grabs positions any way. The big open spot is the 2nd DT spot. Ricky walker is by no means a lock imo. Next up is centre, I think Eli is taking it. I also think Dobson will make a re fight for a starting guard spot. 5th wr will see a lot of talent fighting for the spot, but it’s hard to also be a better blocker and culture driver. -

You’re right. I think he is our best return man ever. Personally I love having more than one on the roster. Especially having 2 back on kick offs. With the other two being versatile be/wr types that can work though not very likely with a di spot on a kicker. Still I think one or both will kick around and get a shot to play offense at some point. Lawler and any d1 wr has been trained in running the 40 since at least middle school though. Not true of a junior kid up here. Dobsons 5.3 vs grants 4.56 best. If he went to a combine pre event like Chris carter used to run (fast, idk if it’s still open) he’d easily be down to a high 4.6 low 4.7. simonise was pretty close to his score with out the junior success and with more track polish. -

That almost always smacks of desperation to me. You see the odd ratio breaker but in general the gap between imp and ni Ts is a big one. -

So we signed a rb and dt / nose tackle today. A ras over 8 for a nose under 6’1 and 300 is extremely good. Great explosion and strength numbers, looks like a real play maker in the back field. Wish we could have him and obg in camp but I assume this is obg not coming https://ulmwarhawks.com/sports/football/roster/caleb-thomas/5429 https://twitter.com/MathBomb/status/1650132414885240838/photo/1 -

Undersized is relative. For guys like Montford and walls length and explosive power and quickness played larger than life. Another 5–10 lean lbs would be an asset no doubt. But being tall and 245+ isn’t as important Imo. Especially if you rotate dl. we signed another nose tackle today so I’m guessing it’s true that obg isn’t reporting. Caleb thomas is even more athletic though and with a better pedigree. Hopefully he can be a stud. -

Yep, he was. And he could be like some of our early 2k ni Wrs Howell and drover etc. able to play any teams and back up other positions. Grant is maybe the best kr in the league, but I think Cole and Henry will put up a real battle. They are both explosive play makers with the ball in their hands. I expect the best battle we’ve seen at kr in a long long time. Both are more offensive players who return kicks as well. I think one or both with be sticking with us for a while. guys like that with top notch athleticism are hard to come by. While that’s true, the same could be said for most of the wrs who started for us the last couple years. 1 really good 40 that scouts considered and outlier. Lots of guys like lawler running high 4.7s. -

It’s insane how they made that point and missed the giant elephant in the room and source of the toxic waste heap. Also how is their ol fixed? They went with their 5th choice oc after getting rejected by every one. 5 win team. Less if Harris goes down. -
