Packers OLB Andy Mulumba suffered a "significant" knee injury in Sunday's Week 2 win over the Jets.

Coach Mike McCarthy admitted it "didn't look good." The second-year UDFA played 361 defensive snaps last season, recording 30 tackles and one sack. He hadn't played at all on defense through Green Bay's first two games, instead being limited to special teams. The Packers are deeper on the outside in 2014.

Assuming it's an ACL injury, if Mulumba decides to play for the Bombers next year, there's a really good chance he's good to go for 2015 training camp, especially as a D-Lineman.

That's too bad. Don't wish injury on anybody (well maybe Rider fans. I kid).

Yeah....never want to see a guy lose his dream because of injury. It's a crappy way to go out.

Its been that kind of year. Personally, I blame it all on the presence of Rider fans in this forum.

I guess the blessing for him, if he doesn't get another NFL shot, is at least he has a decent back-up plan where he can continue to play football at a high level while earning a comfortable wage... rather than start his post-football career at 25....

Does suck for AM he had a chance of sticking in the NFL for awhile. As for the Bombers, not saying it's the case but, having undersized players in the front 7 could be catching up to them.

I don't want to write him off in the NFL just yet. Who knows, maybe the Packers like him that much. However, if reports that he was on the bubble in TC are true it does not bode well for him. He has a handful of starts before he becomes pension eligible, is a fringe roster player, and has suffered a significant injury. These are all recipes for disaster for NFL players. I think there is a very strong chance he is a Bomber in 2015 and lord knows we could use some luck like that from the football gods. Sucks for Mulumba but would be exactly what  the doctor ordered for us. An impact NI at a position of weakness on our team heading into a year we will almost certainly be trying to load up and take a Grey Cup run.

I'm not sure why the author of that article chose to bring it up multiple times in the piece, as Mulumba's childhood in the Congo is something he doesn't like to talk about or think about -- but my mind either went to him being a "warrior" as in having a lot of courage to survive that time (a time he wants to forget and doesn't like to talk about), or even worse, being a child soldier, an unfortunate situation many people then (and now) in war-torn African countries are subjected to. It's a hell I couldn't even imagine coming back from.

Frankly, either way, it's majorly offensive.

If that's what it references then holy **** that's offensive.. I was generally confused by it until you said something...

Today's news.

Mulumba will get a one-way ticket to injured reserve, which means the Packers will soon have an empty roster spot. He’ll join three other guys with torn ACLs there.

Mulumba was primarily used on special teams this season. He had been credited with one tackle. In 2013, Mulumba made the team as an undrafted free agent and actually started three games at outside linebacker. Last year he notched 30 tackles and a sack.

This isn’t a huge blow to the Packers, considering Mulumba’s role on defense has been more or less nonexistent in 2014.
