The TV Thread

My guilty pleasure summer TV watching shows are about to begin. One is Under the Dome not the greatest show but need to know why the dome came to be pretty much sucked in now. The other is Big Brother. Watched the Canadian one this season was pretty good but something about the America one is better.

I gave Under the Dome a try.  And it didint make my "keep watching to see if its any good" list.  Usually when I like a show (The Event, Hostages & that one where everyone blacked out) they get cancelled and when I give up on them (Under The Dome, Revolution, Fringe), they catch on.

How has no one (Netflix, FOX) done an X-Files revival??

God, Under the Dome was just TERRIBLE.  I watched it because I too wanted to find out why the dome came down - but TERRIBLE writing, terrible acting... I don't know if I'll watch the second season,  will likely just read the book (Stephen King...).

From the Comic Con I watched, there would be no revival with Anderson/Duchovny, but would prefer a movie (I think).

Chris Carter is involved with Amazon's attempt to rival Netflix with "The After" - http://variety.com/2014/digital/news/amazon-greenlights-6-series-including-chris-carters-the-after-and-renews-alpha-house-1201150016/

Interesting premise but that's about it.

I also kind of liked Leverage for a fun (read - silly) action type show.

Life is another TV show that was short-lived but good (iirc).  Damien Lewis before he was a terrorist.  Homeland in the first series was awesome as well.

Quoted because it needs repeating. When the wife puts it on I can't help doing the Homer Simpson style 'D'OOOOOOME!!!!!'

The League is always funny. I can't believe I forgot It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Louie - Louis CK's show - is normally a good watch. He has complete creative control and he's made the best of it. You may be able to tell I have a thing for raunchy and irreverent humor. Because damnit, life is too short to sit around watching documentaries about fracking.

Just started watching OITNB on netflix and i have to admit, i have become addicted. I love it, it's a great show, don't even care about the nudity, it's just a good show with a great cast, donna from that 70's show, jason biggs and another girl from american pie and taylor shilling is just fantastic. Love it, Honestly just started watching it 2 days ago and i'm already done season 1. I think it's just a great show. It's funny, its entertaining, it's witty, it has good stories, it's wonderful. Really liked OZ when it was on, OITNB i dont think is comparable to OZ, only common thing there is both are set in prisons but outside of that, they are very different. Enjoy(ed) them both.

I'm a little over half way through season 2 of OITNB... so far I agree that season 2 is better (although I really liked season 1).  Giving the back stories on inmates other than Chapman gets you more interested in their characters and should keep the show from quickly going stale.

The concept is perfect for staying fresh because it's easy to introduce new characters and have them slowly mix in with the established cast.  I really like Brooke Soso for example.

The only thing they have to be careful about is getting a bit too outlandish in trying to be entertaining but I think they are walking the line successfully right now.  Like Pornstache was suitably "scary" in a way in Season 1 but could easily go into goofy territory.  But no spoilers here.

At the conclusion of Season 2, I really felt like "WTF, I have to wait a year now?"  Maybe the next trend should be for Netflix to film an entire 8 season series at once and put them all up...lol

Finally got around to watching House of Cards, so binged the two seasons. Love it. Can't wait for the third season. Looking to get into Orange is the New Black now.

Give yourself a few episodes of Orange before making a decision. You won't be disappointed.

Anyone watch the new HBO series The Leftovers? I watched the premier. I'm intrigued. As a spoiler junkie these mystery shows drive me nuts and if it was network television I doubt I'd invest the time (I've fallen for the mystery TV show hook before and my shows always get cancelled). I have faith in HBO and lack of censorship always helps.

Unfortunately Damon Lindelof is show runner which makes me fear the show will degenerate into Lost. I question whether they even know the end game to the mystery yet. But it was suitably slickly produced.

So I finished Les Revenants, which was fantastic-ly creepy.

Everyone kept recommending Rectify to me... big meh in my opinion (it's on Netflix if anyone feels like taking a gander).

While I love the Big Red storyline in OITNB - Piper's storyline was pretty flat imo.

Yes they made the conscious decision to make the show more of an ensemble in Season Two.  I dont think Season 3 is out until next spring!  On a side note, my favourite character is Pensetucky,

I'm not a fan, she is a girl i wouldn't touch with a 10  foot pole. I like the crazy new yorker girl, can't recall her name but she's got a very obvious voice. The one who was convinced that her and christopher were gonna get married. LOL. Her and Red are pretty interesting characters. Actually, they all are pretty interesting characters.

Morelli.  She's actually austrailian.  I read an article where she talked about the accent she uses.  its a combo Boston/New York.  I love her too.  Im not saying I find Pensetucky attractive, I just really like the character.  Very entertaining.  And Taryn Manning is great.

As far as attractive goes, for sure Morelli.  And Pousey.  And Soso.  lol
