The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

The video is unplayable.

Looks like they are leaning hard into Moiraine and Lan being the central protagonists to kick things off, which makes sense with Pike anchoring the cast of otherwise unknowns... I see a lot of fan service in this teaser and I'm into it. The slick of oil across the pool... Rand riding white water rapids... look forward to trippy Dune-y dream sequences and exposition dumps to explain the world and magic (the power)... the power looks balls to the wall over the top, as it should be. Shadar Logoth... Mats dagger... Tar Valon and the White Tower... the Red Ajah... The Eye... so many moments to look forward to in season 1 alone.

Guaranteed I binge it twice in one day. Just hook it to my veins

is another muppet competing?

god  who is under this one?

after the weird/sci-fi nerdiness of Loki, I'm looking forward to something a little more grounded.....this looks great!

Another cartoon.

Al and I have already talked about it on Twitter, but I just recently decided to binge Sorkin's The Newsroom on Crave. Man... I know this doesn't have great reviews but I ******* love this show. It's classic Sorkin writing, a great dramatic turn from Jeff Daniels, and Sam Waterston is a ******* international treasure.... And being in the media, I really got a lot out of their depiction of a cable news outlet.

Anyhow, man this is a great show and I'm really sad there's only 25 eps...

I remember watching the first few episodes, then lost my HBO subscription but then lost it. I should go back.

I'm watching Boardwalk Empire now.

Yknow i was scrolling the "binge able" section on Crave and saw that... Had heard good things..... How do you like it? Is it pretty harsh, in that mob movie/Scorsese kinda way? Gory/graphic? It took me a LONG time to get through Breaking Bad because it's such a tough show to watch....

It is definitely graphic. I'm on the 4th episode and I have seen things.

But, if you enjoy gangster films, it's very good. It has a strong political element but everyone is corrupt.

As much as I love Buscemi, I will likely have to take a pass. I'm still ****** up from watching Casino nearly a decade ago. Took me YEARS to get through BB.... Ugh. I'm wondering about season 1 of True Detective tho... I think that might be more up my alley.

hey, I'm just watching Boardwalk Empire now, finished the second season last night.  It is peak **** and gore HBO, with lots of really grisly violence, esp in the second season.  I'm taking a break from it because really it's too much. It's much more casual about violence than Breaking Bad ever was.

The plotting and cast are top-notch tho.  It's gripping to watch.

True Detective was great. Very odd but very good.

They didn't make a second season, which is a shame.

That's too bad, I was hoping it would pass.
