Restaurant/food thread

So anyone go anywhere good lately, with iHop opening on monday (surely this one will be better than the one in grand forks service wise) I'm kind of wondering if anyone has been anywhere decent recently

a month ago I went with my friends to canadian brewhouse.....man that was a good burger but a word to the wise, do not get an appetizer if you also plan on getting the John Candy Burger it's the second most expensive thing there...but man those garlic fingers were excellent, but there were more than I thought so I asked "anyone want to share my fingers?" which they gladly did

I can assure you that the John Candy Burger is nothing like whatever John Candy like item that Rumors Comedy Club has....it was just two patties compared to the Rita Challenge

I'm not sure if anyone has made a restaurant thread yet so I'm just leaving this here

So Tim Horton's has stopped selling all of their soups and chili as of October 1. Just beyond f**king stupid. Those were pretty much the only edible things still on their menu. Right before soup and chili season no less. Just braindead s**t from the moronic out of touch tall foreheads at corporate.

Well so much for hoping they would bring back the soups with the bread bowl

I don't understand how they still stay in business these days?

The location near my house has depleted the donut/muffin/bagel selection down to the absolute bare minimum.  Apparently double chocolate donuts are to niche these days for them to stock?    The last time I went they said they stopped serving wedges and other food items after 5 pm.

Now no soups and chili?     What is on the menu these days outside of plain donuts, plain bagel,  a few sandwiches and flat bread pizza which completely doesn't make sense?

What a massive fall of grace from only 20 years ago.

first of all you can ask them to put cream cheese on the bagels. I guess the Breakfast menu is outselling all that

we definitely need a Panera bread here

Different locations, stock different donuts unfortunately.. Double chocolate being one of the rare ones.

You literally have to download the app, then pick a location to be able to see their donut selection. Gone are the days when they have every flavor. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I have no reason to go there.

But they can't put cinnamon raisin ,  french toast,  four cheese ,  blueberry , jalapeno,  pretzel,  etc... on top of a bagel.

I'm going to assume you are much younger, but back in the early 90's you could go to Tim Horton and pick from a wide selection of freshly made (i.e. not flash frozen) donuts and pastries.

Earlier in the year when I was in the States and we quickly stopped at a Dunkin donuts and they had like 30 different kinds of donuts.   It was like a rainbow with so much variety.

Who actually eats anything from Tim Horton's anymore? If that company went under would anyone care?

I'm old enough to remember when they introduced Whole Wheat and Honey bagels, heck they introduced four cheese while I was in College

Boomers?  The drive thru is always busy so I'm assuming they still sell lots of coffee?

Chili and a bun was basically the only thing I ever ordered for lunch from there. One less reason to go to Tim's.

Yup their chili was actually really good. Im not a coffee drinker and their donuts are s**t so that'll be it for me.

Totally 100% agree. Not to mention that soups are probably one of the best mark ups in all of the restaurant business and is still an actual drawing card for many because very few people offer it anymore..

well I finally found the time to go to IHOPBees and not all the menu items carried over from the Sterling Lyon location (like I was looking forward to getting either a biscuit sandwich or a crepe but I ended up getting an ultimate breakfast burger with fries. However I do still have a reason to want to go back they have new menu items, (I want to try the Chicken Parm Fettucine Alfredo)

I prefer to do take out these days instead of staying in the restaurant for a long period of time (especially since my food took awhile) but the place was kind of busy so I guess that's a good thing

We tried Freddie's for the first time this afternoon.     I would say it taste extremely similar to Dairy Queen.    Better then McDonalds and Burger King... but lower then A & W and Wendys.

My wife ordered the Truffle Crunch Steakburger with Onion Rings.   They used canned mushrooms (despite the photos looking like they were using real ones)  and the onion rings were straight out of what you get at a canteen at a hockey ring.  Cheap frozen ones.

I ordered some sort of bacon cheeseburger,  they use processed cheese and the bacon was paper thin like at McDonalds.

The meat was good and I don't believe it was frozen,  that was the one thing they did really well.   We didn't try the custard so I can't comment on that.     Overall I wouldn't go back since Fat Burger which is a few minutes away blows it away and is similarily priced.

We tried IHop / Applebees for lunch today.   The renovation really has brighten up the restaurant.  It looks much better and far less 1990's then the previous decor.    The place was jam packed full of seniors ,  nearly every table was taken.

The prices seem to have also increased sharply.   The Applebees special where you get 2 meals and 1 appetizer was really expensive.    The menu shows 2 for 50.... but  9 out of the 12 meals that you can select have a 3 - 5 dollar upcharge for them.     So what my wife and I would normally get (2 fiesta lime chicken + mozza sticks)  was 2 for $58 dollars.    If you were to order them individually off the menu it all comes to $59.   So this "special" is only one dollar off which is really dumb.    In the States even after the recent inflation this same combo is 2 for $35 after currency conversion.    I'm not sure why it's so expensive up here.

My wife ordered the $18 ultimate breakfast ,  it tasted good but the portions are quite small.  It was enough for her, but I'd imagine none of my guy friends or myself would be satisfied with the size.  The wrap I ordered was half the size of what it was pre make over and for 22 dollars it was over priced.

I'm not a breakfast person ,  my wife is and said that Stella's and Ben and Fiorentines are much better.   I wouldn't go back.

Something I forgot to bring up when I posted about it is that they got rid of the sports team mural in the corner which was a bit of a bummer

And the random stuff nailed to the wall?

It's all gone,  it's bright with lots of yellow and red colors splashed around the walls.    They had a mini renovation a few years back where they had taken down all the random crap up on the ceiling/wall.  So no more Roy Orbison vinyls and pictures of Burton Cummings.   What was funny is that they had taken them down but never repainted/revarnished the wooden panels and you could then see the outlines of the faded colors where everything was pinned up.

Nope when you first would go into the restaurant and the booths on the very right.   For the longest time they had tchotchkes pinned on the wall/ceiling.

I nailed something to the wall at the Pemby location. Was up there for half a year before they realized it.
