US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Im not sure if its a gender thing but this crops up a lot.  Whenever Hilary says anything its, "why doesnt she go away".  But older male politicians, doesnt happen.  She doesnt have to go away.  The Clintons are big time leaders in the Democratic party, whether we like it or not.

In all seriousness though... the amount of shtty things HRC pales in comparison to the MOUNTAINOUS amount of **** with long lasting  damage that  Trump has done and will continue to do. So yeah, trump's name will keep coming up for awhile.

No different than Obama's legacy of mis-steps.  But any time his name comes up, Dems scream "that's whataboutism!!  Let's focus on Trump!"  I'm just saying be prepared for the same response.  Can't close pandora's box once it's open.

Fair point about whataboutism.

Obama "mis-steps" vs trumps never ending scandals in this white house: totally different animal - you can't really compare the two.

It really doesn't matter though- trump is, hand's down, the worst, most corrupt and incompetent  POTUS ever. I just hope the US peoples learn from this and educate themselves better on the candidates and their platforms in the future.

The yah but Clinton, yah but Obama, yah but is easily overcome.

you have no chance of being President of the USA, no matter what party you belong to, unless you are a liar, fully beholden to a certain group of the World's wealthiest, who do not give two hoots about most people.

In our time, nobody decent, or honest, can become President. Or hold any other high office.

Harry Truman, after he left office, drove home to Missouri in his own car.

This latter bunch are all multi multi millionaires or billionaire,

Obama lied, did little of what he said he would do, Hillary Clinton was a proven liar. She voted FOR invasion of Iraq.   George Bush was a mass murderer.

The main thing Obama was better at than Trump, was presenting himself as a kind, caring individual.

His Tuesday afternoon double tap drone target selection meetings, proved that to be fake.

But when you're only argument supporting Trump is to  bring up Hillary

you've admitted he's indefensible.

I wouldn't agree.  If the clocks were turned back and the vote was Trump vs Hillary again, with everything we know now... Trump still wins.  I know he'd still have my vote.

True enough- there are so many people that would want to do ANYTHING to stick it in the eye of the SJWsnowflakecuckslibtardleftypinko and let the world burn.

Others, find trump to be a rational, well respected leader who has an agenda that helps not only the USA, but also the world.

Just curious, what are your reasons for trump securing your vote?

Agreed- the drone program should never exist, its an abomination of a project.

Of all the Obama Legacies that trump is undoing, you would hope the Drone Program would be rolled back or dismantled before the bear's ears.

Didnt everyone vote in favour of invading Iraq?  And Bush was not a mass murderer.  Hyperbole like that ends any sensible discussion.

I do agree that only the elite can really become President right now.  And the type of reform it would take to change that, none of the people in power would ever do.  Although, even if you're a young idealist, the power changes you.  Clinton's are a good example (though I admit I like them).

Its hard not to paint everyone with the same brush.  But then the only answer is to not care, stop voting and take it as it comes.  Who wants that?

One thing Trump has shown us is, it can always be worse.  So being engaged and taking part in the process is important.  Abandoning it wont work.

He wouldnt win.  I mean, we cant do what you're proposing so who knows.  But he was as good as gone until Comey opened his yap.  Even Trump thought so.

I wont make it personal but if someone says "knowing what we do, I'd still vote for Trump"....yikes.

Ends sensible discusussion? According to who? Do you have to start off with an insult to make a point?

Bernie Sanders voted against it.

Even Hillary herself later said it was wrong to vote for the invasion. The invasion itself was illegal.

five hundred thousand to one million dead people in Iraq say Bush is a mass murderer.

People far more qualified than you or I say the war was illegal, and Bush is a war crminal.

Forget Bush for a moment.....just check out the war profiteers and criminals, that sat in his administrations inner circle.   That war was from start to finish, a put up job.

and...... He is a perfect fit for the legal definition of war criminal.

is that sensible?

One of the votes was unanimous as I recall (Im too busy to look it up right now, and dont really care to be honest lol).  My point being, if Congress voted unanimously or even mostly, it doesnt make something right or wrong, it just makes it lawful (to the US perspective anyway).  And it becomes a voting issue...if people dont like how their representative does his/her job, vote for someone else next time.

Impeachment should be for criminality.  I've said that from the beginning with Trump too.  They dont get to impeach because they regret who won.  Thats for the next election.

One million dead in Iraq says it was a fierce war.  We can debate whether they should have gone in or not.  But to suggest a President of the United States is a mass murderer for ordering troops to conduct war is absurd in my opinion.  War Criminal would be a far more suitable allegation but in this case, I dont think it merits it.  Bush isn't a war criminal.  You might dislike him enough to think so, but he isn't.  Opinions are opinions and facts are facts.  I dont begrudge people who dont like W.  I did (I know some people like to think Im a leftist liberal but Im not).

But debating W is a rabbit hole that isnt really relevant.  We should agree to disagree!

Yeah... he had no chance... he has no chance... he will have no chance.... yet there he is, President Trump.  Every anti-Trump critic clings to something different, be it Russia, or Comey, or even the Dems rigging the primaries so Hillary would win.  But the fact is he did win, and he still has a ton of supporters who would vote for him again.  His approval rating is hovering around 42% which is pretty poor, but still enough to possibly win re-election... it has happened before.  It would really depend on the strength of his opponent.

The personal stuff doesn't faze me.  Porn stars, rude comments, etc... means nothing to me.  I'm about policy, not TMZ level nonsense.  And I see a strong economy, I see unemployment falling.  I see America finally calling out their allies for failing to carry their weight in agreements like NATO.  I see a tax plan that reduces taxes.  I see Trump putting pressure on North Korea in ways that no former president ever did.  And I like it.

Like I said, we cant go back so no one can say.  If you want to take exception to someone saying he wouldn't win, you cant also say he would.  To over-look how badly he was doing right before the Comey thing (and the fact Trump and his team thought he'd lose) is silly.  Sure, the Russian Collusion and micro-targeting did a fine job of creating a victory in the electoral college out of a resounding popular vote defeat.  But it turned on the Comey news.

Speaking of Trump, if you liked him then and would vote for him now, what's your red line?

I agree with much of what you have said except the tax plan- that only reduces taxes for the rich.

Sure, it doesn't matter much to me, he won and it's over and done with now.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "what's your red line?"  That's a pretty open question.  I could answer with "Invading Canada" if I wanted to, but of course that is unrealistic.  Maybe be more specific with what you mean, and I could come up with something.

Given your answer in the previous post, I think I understand.

For example to me, being a racist is a red line.  Being a homophobe is a red line.  We can't always know whats in the heart of the person but Trump doesnt hide who he is.  I dont care who he sleeps with.  Paying people off raises concerns of blackmail though.  Those are legitimate concerns.  Quid pro quo doesnt sit well with me either.  I wouldnt condone impeaching him over it.  But I wouldnt vote for him.  Sexual assault is a red line (trump has multiple accusers, including a very young girl).

OK fair enough.  So you don't like that Trump doesn't hide who he is.  That doesn't bother me and so is not a redline.  And those are all personal concerns, which to me, don't mean a thing.  So no, none of those are a redline.  Now, if he started implementing policies banning homosexuality or taking away the right to vote from women or black people, yes that would be a redline.  But otherwise, sorry... don't care.

Dirty tactic but not really unique to Trump.  I don't approve, but at the same time, no one's right to vote is being taken away.

If proven in a court of law, yes it would.

So the issue wouldn't be if he actually sexually assaulted someone, its only if he's found guilty in court?  Knowing a President is unlikely to be permitted to be indicted, how would that work?  Thats a very convenient way to say "if he is proven in court to have committed a crime, I would turn against him" when he cant actually be taken to court for a crime...
