Helmets just had a bit of foam in the shell back then.
Back then there was no foam, worked with webbing suspended and attached to the plastic so your head floated around in the middle.

Every year, couple of players that get hyped up like nobody's business, then the draft starts and nobody has interest in them. 50-some picks in and Johnny Augustine still isn't a first round pick. Or second, third, fourth or fifth. Herdman won't make it out of the first round...
It's nice the bloggers give us something to talk about, but take them seriously at your own risk.
Gotta be something about Augustine that I'm missing. He has all the physical tools and performed head and shoulders above all the other rb/fb. He owned the lbs on pass protection drills.

Ekakitie, Spooner, Conteh are all starters... No worries if Loffler gets injured now
Augustine in fourth round...?
Hope he drops that far

Smart move. The club needs to find different ways to utilize IGF for more dates. Soccer in Winnipeg has many fans. Who woulda thought the Goldeyes would be so successful. I think soccer is boring and personally would never sit through a match, but see that with the proper management it could work here and might actually strengthen our football club from a financial standpoint.

Whoa. Ratiobreaker does a full mock draft.
Doesn't like the Ekakitie at first overall. And Colling goes in the 6th round...
That makes more sense than the 3down one. There are going to be some surprises.

Best person for the commissioner's job has to be Pinball, if he would take it. He's charismatic, everyone loves him. Has played and coached in the league at a high level and has been involved in management of a team that desperately needs to get back on track in a market that the league needs to get jump started. He also is an excellent decision maker. I really think there is no better person for that job and the time is right.

The only thing though, is Woods has size, and you can't teach that. He's like 6'8" and was listed at 295 but came into the combine at 330.
-
After watching Woods in the 1 on 1's at the combine, hard to belive he would be anything other than a late 2 or 3rd round project. He wasn't using his size to advantage and got outleveraged by just about everyone. In the coaches choice 1 on 1's Woods and Bladek clearly got the most reps at multiple positions and Bladek seemed to hold his position against everyone but Luke. Woods was leveraged out of position by almost all the DLinemen.
-
Based on today's 1 on 1's here's how I'd rate the top 10 at the combine this year -
1) Danny Vandervoort, Rec,Crisp route running, got open and fought well for the ball, caught almost everything thrown close to him.
2) Junior Luke, DL, Strong bottom end, gets underneath well and has great leverage.
3) Johnny Augustine, RB, Great blocking, straight ahead speed, and good hands - beat at LB's in pass drillls, dropped a few against DB's, he did receiver drills as well.
4) Dariusz Bladek, OL, Good positioning, nice footwork.
5) Dondre Wright, DB, Athletic, speedy, great positioning, fought well for the ball.
6) Nate Behar, Rec, Athletic, strong, fast, made a highlight reel catch.
7) Adam Laurensee, DB, great range, fast closer.
8) Kwaku Boateng, DL, fast, hard to contain, great moves, a little undersized.
9) Jeremy Zver, OL, great positioning, won most of the battles against DL
10) Evan Foster, DL, motor that won't stop, undersized, did LB drills as well and did not look out of place.
You can watch all the drills on cfl.ca, it's about 2.5 hours, there is a lot of talking but the nice thing is you can skip what you don't want to see.

How did Behar look in 1 on 1s?
He looked pretty good, but Vandervoort was head and shoulders above everyone else. There was one Dback that was outstanding as well, Dondre Wright, who was knocking balls down and making interceptions, Vandervoort beat him on a deep one.
-
Boy after today I'd be very tempted to pick Vandervoort #1 and go with a lineman for our #6. Vandervoort really stood out that he's pro ready today, and none of the linemen O or D were any better than the others in the 1 on 1's , so there seems to be a lot of good ones. As for Ankou who wasn't there today, to much of a risk to get drafted or even if he doesn't seems to have the tools NFL teams are looking for and he might be there for awhile. Behar would be a good pick at 6 if we do go lineman #1, Vandervoort won't drop that low.

Boy that's sure not going to make the players happy. No cap on coaches/management, but a tight cap on the guys putting their physical health on the line week in and week out.
-
So according to 3downnation it looks like the Esks are on the verge of signing Cory Greenwood. It implies that they may be looking to change their Canadian ratio situation (reason for signing Cummings, releasing Steele). I wonder if this might shake JC Sherritt lose. He sure would look good in Blue and Gold.

I believe this will be the first Training Camp for AR where he's not coming off injury or rehab....should be 100% healthy with a full offseason of training.
Yep, give him a chance. He's got the tools and unfortunately injuries have plagued him his first couple of years. He's still young and you never know.

I like the LeFevour signing, if nothing else he's a great short yardage QB. Something we've had trouble with in the past.

They also gave Owens a raise and a "sizeable" signing bonus.
Wow! What are they thinking. Must have lots of cap space with no where to use it.

Strange signing, one of the few areas of strength for the Riders. Unless they got him really cheap.

All in all the first day went pretty good for the Bombers. We didn't make a lot of big splashes and kept our key pieces. Losing Bass and Burnett was inevitable. But our front seven was no great shakes last year even with their talent. Signing big name free agents is a crap shoot, for every Harris there is a Shologan.

Hardrick would be the easiest American talent wise along that online to replace, but boy he brings tons of energy and fun and I think we would miss that.
